We got to see John and Tim on Hard Knocks talking about Barkley, “face of the franchise, best offensive player….”
Joe Schoen said you don’t pay a QB 40 million to hand the ball to a 15 million dollar running back.
But what about Daboll?
Unless I missed something, he hasn’t voiced his opinion on Barkley.
If Dabs felt like Barkley was an integral part of the offense , or if he felt like he needed him he could have gone to Joe and said I need this guy, sign him, even if we have to over pay a little.
I’m assuming he felt like it wasn’t going to be that big of a loss.
The head coach has to have some influence on the roster, but didn’t go to bat for him. To me that speaks volumes.
Well never know until he retires and writes a book.
“It [his time with the Giants] was over after that phone call, in my opinion,” Barkley told Russini in a snippet of a podcast interview released Monday. “I never in my heart truly believed that they were going to match it or they only wanted me for a lower price. So, no matter what I probably wasn’t going to go back.”

He might be asked in an interview, but I doubt he”ll give his honest opinion.
people are going overboard on this show.. Its not a freaking expose'. Its snippets of conversations.. We know how they felt.. they would bring him back at the right price.. its amazing people just to grasp that.
They are not mutually exclusive. The Giants can think he is a great player and big loss - but at the same time believe that signing him would not be the best use of money now and especially longer term. If Barkley has a great year - it does not mean the Giants were wrong.

This. He basically signed for the same money they offered him 2 Yees ago. He has another season of wear and tear and had their price.
# 2 Barkley is a butt hurt bitch. They might have matched. There isn't a person on the planet who knew what he would get offered. I hope all these guys get as much as they can but everyone bargains for what they think is best.
I wanted them to sign him a year ago. This year easterly happy to let him walk. Always banged up. Soooo many people wa tee him gone. Hated the pick. The. When he goes the whining is nuts.
Philly is desperate to take the heat off of Hurts. And their window is shrinking. He was worth more to Philly than NY. Simple
And he answered "YES" without even a small pause.
It was like the scene in Step Brothers when one character asks if they just became best friends.
So I think we totally on board with the decision.
Or maybe it’s be because the o-line was crap
Daboll seemed very bullish on Motor. Which tells me he's very comfortable solving the running game without Barkley.
Not signing him gave us room to improve the O-Line, get Burns and sign him to a new deal improving the defense. So in my opinion, and we know about opinions😂 we’re better off.
Does this answer the OP absolutely not, but I will say by the look on Daboll’s face, and his silence says it all.

It was only under Dabs that I ever saw 26 put his head down and run into the back of the O-line for the gritty 2 yd gain. Thats when it became apparent he has shitty hole vision for a RB. He relied on dancing too much which worked great in college.

We did have a shit o-line. But JAG rbs like Gallman were able to grind 3-4 yards with same shit O-line. Saquon has some the worse NFL rb vision/instincts when it comes to hitting the right holes hard.
my theory is daboll said burn the boats. yes barkley would have cost some resources they could spend elsewhere, but i think more important he was a crutch daboll didnt want. when things werent going well it may have been tempting to try to just lean on barkley, give him carries waiting for a home run, and eek out wins like the houston game in 2022.
i dont think that's the offense daboll wants to run and i think he wanted to force the adaptation, sink or swim, without any life jacket.
sean payton made a similar decision in cutting russell wilson. he told ownership he was cutting him knowing he's still a good player, but he didnt care. he didnt fit what he wanted so he did it.
There is much more to it than we see.
If Philly doesn’t improve this season with Barkley and his top of market salary I think it will look bad on Barkley. He was their prize signing.

Dabs was in the room when Schoen and Brown were talking about the allocation of cap space. He seemed to agree that the higher priorities were attempting to improve the offensive line and pass rush. Once money was spent on the offensive line and Burns, it was clear that signing Barkley was going to be difficult. Then Barkley got the big offer that the Giants could not match. You will never know what Dabs said in private, but he did not seem to object that Barkley was not the highest priority for allocating cap space. If he did object, you would never see that on camera.

That's a great way to phrase it, and I agree. Dabs was ready to close the Barkley chapter and invest the savings in protecting and the getting after QBs.
