NY Post NFC East review

Hilary : 7/23/2024 5:45 am
The Eagles will miss Fletcher Cox, a truly great player, and Kelce but seem to have shored up the D.
Redskins had a lot of cap- space and the # 2 pick should be much improved
Cowboys maybe taking a step backwards
The Giants should be a much better team but how that translates into wins unclear. I think Van Roten signing would really add depth to the o line and improve the team.
NFC east - ( New Window )
It’s the Post’s Draftkings preview

And their odds for winning the division. Our NYG have the longest odds. Vegas seems to be very down on the 2024 NYG despite the optimism seen here on BBI. Cesar’s has the NYG with the 2nd longest NFC championship odds and 5th longest SB odds.
No one is going to back the Giants

We’re very young and have a bunch of unanswered questions. We’re probably a year away even if things go relatively well this year. That’s ok. Given where we came from that’s what we should expect. I like the direction we’re heading and seeing their plan take shape. But I’m a fan. It’s a really interesting year for the fans but I can see why the pundits aren’t impressed.
Some turnover in the division for sure

And a few really good players no longer in Dallas and Philly..however they will both be contenders this year in a weak NFC.

Washington is such an unknown...new coaches, a very revamped roster with a ton of veterans and a rookie QB. I could see them winning 3 games or 9.
Easy to think Cowboys take a step back because...

They made no sexy additions in free agency and the draft, but no new faces also means no significant newcomes needing to assimilate into the system (and the hiccups that comes with that). In other words, they have the advantages that come with continuity. And they have their three biggest stars playing for a new contract, which is generally considered a positive.

Contrast that with the Eagles, who are admittedly loaded with talent, but could face issues learning a new system on offense and integrating new players on defense. I like the Cowboys chances more than the Eagles, but the Cowboys always seem to lose a handful of games each year they're supposed to easily win.

Anyway, what the hell do I know.
Nice to see the yearly overrating of Washington is in full swing

Our secondary alone is disqualifying for us to be a serious team

Personally think the secondary will surprise some people. Henderson is one of the best secondary coaches in the league, and Bowen’s scheme will make life a lot easier on the corners

In terms of personel, Banks has potential to be a #1 CB. He played well for a rookie who was often asked to guard #1’s on an island - obviously had some moments where he struggled, but the tools and traits are obvious with him.

I also think Pinnock + Nubin is an above average safety combo. Pinnock was an above average starter last year, and is still an ascending player…very good athlete for the position and now has a full season of starting experience under his belt. We’ll see just how good Nubin is, but think he should be able to step in and give them solid safety play as a rookie given his football instincts.

So really, the only major question mark is CB2 and Slot. CB2 they are hoping for Flott or Hawkins, who have the greatest upside… but the worst case scenario (insurance policy) is either McCloud or Herndon. I’ve always been impressed whenever McCloud has been forced into action. He’s a good backup at the very least. Slot they have plenty of options as well…Herndon played well there for Jags. Holmes has plenty of experience and should benefit from the scheme change as he struggled in man. And Phillips is likely the starter and should be playable from the start coming from the SEC.

Really young group and there could be some ups and downs. But no longer in a feast or famine scheme. Have capable vets as contingency plans (Herndon, Mills, Holmes, McCloud, etc).

So NYG is 8-2-1 over Commanders since they assumed that name
UberAlias : 7/23/2024 2:10 pm : link
We swept Washington on the season last year and beat them by double digits in most recent meeting. The Commanders finished the season on an 0-8 streak were they were outscored 273 - 138.

Whatever case you choose to make about NYG being bad, Commanders have been decisively worse.

Actually, it often is. A lot of people have fallen all over themselves repeatedly over the last 30 years to proclaim they're going to be a breakout team, and it never actually happens.
