Lotsa young guys with upside, maybe, and perhaps you can sign a competent vet off the street as late as final cuts, but I've got a feeling that if Singletary goes down early, the Giants are f*ct.
We still have holes throughout the roster. Our season doesn't hinge on a RB. Oh no! If we only had Barkley we'd get 6 wins. Damnit.
I'm not a big Barkley guy, but I think if you're going to run RB by commitee, it helps to have a commitee.
Now I am being a dick and I don't mean to be but your definition of committee is multiple veterans?
If one of the young guts steps up, it's moot, but I don't think Singletary can handle the load by himself and if he goes down, we've got absolutely nothing we can count on at RB.
The OL is still very unsettled until they aren't. Everyone is focused on Neal, which makes sense, but what about JMS? What about our guards? What about our corners? What about our safeties? Hell, I saw a thread the other day saying our LBs are outstanding. One, they need to prove it especially in a new system. Two, what happens if we get just one injury at that position? We are fucked on all of these positions and they're all more important than RB.
has been a mess since 2013. All these awesome diamond in the rough guys that are so easy to get just avoid our roster, apparently. RB is a concern until it isn’t and it’s likely going to continue being a problem until the OL gets better.
Rush the ball is largely dependent on the Offensive Linemen blocking well. The Giants OL was abysmal last season. If you can somehow get that fixed, I’d wager most NFL RB’s would be being fairly successful behind it.
I am looking forward to watching the OL in the preseason games. Hoping to see some improvement then. It’d give me reason to hope for the season. lol
Signing a bunch of replacement level vets. The entire roster is being turned over. Love the new young talent in a number of the units. RB, WR, TE, DB, DL. This us what we need to see.
lots of needs but also agree it is fair to be concerned about the RB's. The days of the Giants being able to move to next RB relatively easy are long gone when they had a very good OL.
Bigger issue if the pass heavy approach doesn't play to expectations or injuries to the skill guys.
It’s a position that turns over quickly in the NFL
A lot of teams around the league are inexperienced there, look around if you don’t believe me. We probably have a low end starter but our backups are fairly inline with the rest of the league, they’re usually a couple recent day 3 picks. This is a position where an older veteran shakes loose (maybe Denver or Chicago) too. Not to mention the washed up types like Dalvin Cook that are sitting on their couch if you’re really looking for experience. Bottom line is the run game will continue to stink unless the OL improves.
Secondary and OT are bigger issues. What happens if Banks goes down? Hell, what happens if he doesn’t take a step forward and isn’t a number 1 corner?
I’m much more concerned about whether or not Jones can push the ball downfield and the D line getting pressure b/c the secondary is young.
This excerpt I m not even that worried about Jones yet. If the Iline improves the RBs will be fine. The dline and secondary are a concern in my view just as you said.

And we can do this with about 20-22 teams in the NFL.
He hasn't shown anything on a pro field and could wind up as Paul Perkins redux; nice enough vision, but no speed, power, or elusiveness at this level.
If Tracy is going to be a scatback gadget type, I'd feel better if we had another capable inside runner to pair with Singletary.
Will be interesting to see what RBs shake loose from other teams - or if Gray can put it together.
in this league. The biggest issue with rookie RBs is their ability to pick up a blitz and block. That said, Tracey could turn out to be the sleeper we all think he is. Also Gray now has a year under his belt. Let’s see how it plays out this pre-season before we start jumping off of cliffs.

Exactly. RB is the closest thing to a plug and play skill position.
The Giants lack of RB depth has been an issue throughout SB's tenure. We'll see how DS works out, but regardless the team has both more and more promising RB depth candidates this season.
podcast recently talked about how they will probably have to cut a highly talented RB Jake Funk, and a TE (didn't catch the name). They don't have room on the roster for them.
But I agree, it's not going to be the difference for the team this year. I think Daboll always wants to be pass first, and pass to set up the run. To do that Jones or whoever is playing QB needs a modicum of a pocket.
I will say I am down on Eric Gray. I hope to be proven wrong, but as a rookie his snaps were massively limited on offense. I can easily see Gray being replaced post cut downs.

Every year we get this post (I am not saying from this poster but as a general response) and while there is some truth to it, at some point we need to win and get better. And, yes, the roster construction in year 3 of Schoen does not appear to be much more solid than at any other point in the last decade even though he has completely transformed the roster. So, I think whether or not our season comes down to this or not, it is worth noting that the depth of our roster is very scary in many areas.

This is a very young team.
It's a good thing.

Barkley with a better offensive line would have been nice, but I guess you have to hit on your offensive linemen in the draft.
