Mets officially added Young and Reyes. On the position player side, there isn’t a glaring need and there aren’t many ABs up for grabs. So I can see the point in carrying someone with ML experience whom you just trust to make a play if you end up needing to call on him.

Saturday's Bridge League debuts brought the 🔥 on the mound:

🔸Jace Hampson (2 K, 93 mph)

reyes is fine since there's pretty much no role for him, the issue would come if a starting MI got hurt and now all of a sudden there's a real role.

i assume they figured they'd have baty in that scenario and he's is at least experienced in MLB. but with him out now they'd be forced to either player a likely useless player (reyes) or a totally inexperienced one (acuna) hoping for lightning in a bottle.

if you look at how the cubs have developed PCA at the big league level, it shows how a player with defensive value and athleticism can improve there vs. AAA. last year he got his feet wet and k'd a ridiculous 37% (i assume if called up acuna could look just as out of place at the plate). this year pca was struggling back at AAA k'ing 27% but they called him up before he was ready out of not really having a better option. he was able to hold his spot because of defense but also slowly/surely made adjustments to improve his offense (including a swing change). he's only k'd 22% this year, and his RC is 87. he is hitting .279 second half with a 117 rc. there was an adjustment period where he played worse than he had in AAA but now a few months later he's playing better than he had earlier in the year in AAA. would have been nice to get acuna any MLB experience this year just purely for depth purposes this year and his development next year. with winker and marte healthy and iglesias/mcneil playing well no real spot for him but those gamel and djs at bats were a total waste.

The Mets calling up utilityman Pablo Reyes and lefthander Alex Young — 30-year-olds acquired in minor midseason deals — underscored the rough reality of the Mets’ minor leagues. They didn’t have any fun and exciting prospects worthy of a promotion.

At the start of the season, any of Drew Gilbert, Luisangel Acuna or Jett Williams feasibly could have reached the majors by now. But Gilbert and Acuna missed significant time because of injuries and Acuna hasn’t hit well in Triple-A. Jacob Reimer, further from the majors, also missed several months. And that’s not to mention Ronny Mauricio, who would’ve received extended time in the majors if not for a torn ACL.

On the pitching side, none of Mike Vasil (5.54 ERA), Dom Hamel (6.77) or Blade Tidwell (5.40) have enjoyed much success with Syracuse. And although Brandon Sproat has had a great year, shooting to the top of the minors in his first pro season, his adjustment to Triple-A has proved difficult (8.83 ERA with way less than a strikeout per inning in four outings).

Matt Allan is rule 5 eligible. As for Gilbert, he may well go but the only position player who I have had confirmed is Jett Williams.

Williams, Dylan Tebrake, Dylan Ross, Noah Hall all "confirmed" (assuming they are healthy) with Allan, Dominguez, Gomez, Brett Banks among the "handful" of names being told they are are under consideration. Mauricio is not expected to be healthy enough to play.

Seems like from my far removed view, there was a lot of excitement coming into this season with Jett, Acuna, Clifford, Gilbert, Mauricio, Houck, Parada, etc.

and the pitchers, Tidwell, Hamil, Vasil, Scott, Ziegler, Stuart

Even add Baty to the list.

and either due to injury or under-performance no one had a great year. The main bright spot was Sproat who seems to have hit a wall.

the Mets system had a down season largely due to injury. Not really a huge argument otherwise. BA's preseason top 30

Sorry this is Pipeline if anybody is curious why it says both are top 100 when neither made BA's list

-Expects Ramirez to be DFA'ed (calls him a non prospect)
- Parada/Houck trending toward non-prospects, will be at the bottom of the Mets top 30 for them (if they make it)
-High on McLean, will likely rank ahead of a guy "like Acuna" when their list comes out.

Has a very unique load to his swing (which may or may not be his main issue). John Sickels had a theory on catchers that sometimes the rigors of actually catching physically impact a player so much they aren't able to handle it. One recent example given was Dodgers C Diego Cartaya.

Parada's in zone whiff% is so poor that there isn't much reason to believe their is light at the end of the tunnel. Privately, one writer told me that the Mets themselves view Parada as a "miss". 34% k%, .299 OBP. Crazier things have happened but it looks like he is indeed a bust.

Houck was a bit more raw as a prospect so not shutting the door on him. Big off-season and 2025 though as you mentioned.

Parada is terrible and a waste of a high draft pick. Let's hope that doesn't happen again for a long time.

if he and jett can end their injury riddled years on a high note (and who knows maybe AFL?) that goes a long way to making this feel like less of a lost year. at least sets them up to start strong comfortable at the same levels next year (as others with less experience rise up).

Hodges struck out a whopping 40 hitters over 23 innings in the MLBDL... he also walked 21 over that same span. He's a pure RP who could be one to follow if he can throw more strikes #Mets

16. Carson Benge, OF, Mets

A two-way player in college, Benge will focus solely on hitting as a professional. He showed strong plate skills in his pro debut, which hints at good contributions in batting average and OBP. Benge’s power is more projectable than actualized at the moment, as his exit velocities are well below-average.

The move to development list almost certainly signals the end to Saul Garcia's season. Garcia ended on a high note (BK debut 5 innings 3 hits 0 runs 1 walk 7 k's) finishes the season with 71.1 innings 72 hits 42 walks 86 k's. He should open 2025 in @BKCyclones rotation #Mets

Man...Gilbert has been on such a weird run lately.

Over the last 3 weeks,

.179 AVG/.779 OPS, 7 HR, 13 RBI, 2 SB....on a .111 BABIP

9 of his 12 hits during the stretch have either been a HR or a double.

Usually if you see a BABIP this low...you would think he's running into bad luck.

This IS NOT the case.

Gilbert's quality of contact lately has been ATROCIOUS.

Morabito has to hit for more power/lift the ball more to profile as more than an extra OFer. 25 extra base hits, .398 slug. Amongst Mets minor league hitters with at least 200 AB's his ISO was 38/47, his GB% led the organization, his FB% was last in the organization (47/47).

has been a pro hitter since day one. Career .300/.380/.439 hitter in the minors (with more walks than strike outs) after putting up a .920 OPS as a junior (his draft year), 82 walks vs. 38 k's in college, so yeah I guess in a dream scenario but I think that's beyond what is a likely outcome.

Morabito in A+ 53.3% GB%, 20.4% FB%, 18.6% K%

Morabito was #2 in the league in GB% and #44 in FB% (out of 45).

Yeah I mean that kind of player not that he'll be exactly like him.

and Brooklyn seasons are over. I wouldn't expect to see many (if any) if their players show up in Bing but anything is possible.

Considering the positive vibes from the big club, but the state of the minors is really depressing. Too many misses with high draft picks or just botched strategy (see Rocker), and this is since Cohen took over who clearly understands the importance of the draft and minors.

Correction, Suarez is on the 7 day IL.

Syracuse is going to the playoffs, so it's of course possible this is just a breather for Sproat but given his AAA struggles (7.43 era) and innings totals, this is *probably* it for him
