Update: Sounds like Brian Burns (groin) is good to go and Giants expect him to play vs Browns despite questionable tag, per sources.

Another important game early in the season. #Giants (0-2) looking to get their first win Sunday vs. the Browns in Cleveland.
A must-win. A date with the Dallas Cowboys looms in four days.
Some things for Giants to build off offensively from Week 2:
— Daniel Jones was more confident in his reads. Posted a solid 62.4 QBR vs. Commanders.
— Offensive line played one of its best games in years. Pass block win rate so far this year is 66.7%, tied for sixth in NFL.
— RB Devin Singletary looked extremely elusive. Averaged a healthy 5.9 yards per carry vs. Commanders.
— Rookie WR Malik Nabers averaging a solid 3.3 yards of separation, per NextGen Stats. Also 109 yards already after the catch. Living up to the hype early in the season.

Like Nabers, Phillips, JMS, Thibs and Burns. That is really where the interest lies for me. Whether they win or lose the game I am pretty apathetic about. There is no pride left in being a fan of this team. Many of us are just morbidly watching to see who will be here next year.
Hopefully there is a competitive game like last week. Is that too much to ask of this franchise?

+2. Sad to say we don’t even mention Neil in this group. Another top ten disappointment

if the goal is to make the playoffs and win games then yeah today is a must win.
If you are of the belief this team still has multiple holes and very important positions and in the long run filling those holes with higher picks is better, then while you can't root against the Giants, the sting of the loss is somewhat lessened by the hope of a strong draft class.

I agree, only difference for me is I’m done watching Jones run this offense. We know what he is. I’d rather see lock or devito given the reigns to see what it looks like without jones destroying the vibe.
I expect Watson to live up to his contract, for 1 week, and their D to school us.
That said - it’s up to the Giants to change the narrative. Good defense on the road. Giants O (DJ) has an opportunity here. Prove you can play well against a good D. Those are the expectations. If not, go.
Need to get the ball to Theo Johnson and WanDale early and often IMO.
+1
Johnson is a rookie who came in raw at one of the toughest positions to make the NFL leap, in an offense that's more complex than most and for the TE in particular.
For now I expect anything thrown his way will be routes he's sitting, and after he's declared. I'd love to see him make some plays, but the middle of the field is a very risky place if the QB/TE aren't 99% on the same page. Which is impossible to expect at this point.

I expect the TEs to be targeted a little bit moreso in this game. Johnson is capable, just like Bellinger in his rookie season. Don’t want Jones forcing the ball to Nabers. Cleveland has a decent secondary too.

The heck with Theo and Wandale. The Giants have a superstar (or on the cusp superstar), get him the damn ball.
Cleveland is banged up and this Giants team is not without some talent. Brian Daboll needs to inspire his team to pull itself up by its bootstraps. The alternative is not a long-term career move for the Giants Head Coach.

That's like syaing don't force the ball to Jefferson etc. They should exactly force the ball to Nabers. He is significantly better thna any other Giants on Offense.

I actually have a good feeling about today. Let's go.
Not expecting the same ypc but if they can boost the RB's production to 25c/4.5ypc they should be in good shape. Interested if the OL can play to the same standard.
D needs to make them punt the ball a few times. Hopefully a turnover or two with a big improvement in stopping the run.

You are correct sir.
Can we stop being every teams get right game. ..that's all I ask
Back in the day (most recently '07 - '12) when the Giants were competitive, games were very stressful.
I remember a tight game during that period, with Dallas driving for a potential game-winning TD, I noticed that my heart was beating way too fast. I had to pause the game and take 10 minutes off to meditate, hoping to calm down by reminding myself that it was just a game.
But now? I'll root like hell for them to win, but when they suck, it does take the pressure off.

If we lose, lose ugly and or lose decisively then Daboll will be on his way out. Cannot imagine him staying if we start 0-3 with Boys next on the schedule..
RE: Shaun Morash on WFAN is a must listen after the postgame for me.
All the blind optimists on this board predicting 10-12 wins this years. How delusional can you be. I predicted 5 wins and that’s looking optimistic at this point. Fucking joke.

And proud of it. Giants don’t even take themselves seriously so why should I. I’ll never stop loving the team and rooting but I can’t watch them anymore. It’s literally too painful. It’s on DVR if by some miracle they win I’ll watch later. Done watching them live. Done going to games. They don’t deserve my time.
QB executes asshole. Pretty sure the coach didn't tell him to check off way short of the marker.
So it’s jones fault that our best WR runs a 4 yard hook? Who else was open? You think if we were to get a first down - a play would have been called for our best WR to run past the sticks.
I’m so beyond sick of watching the giants be bad. It feels like it’s been like this for a lifetime. I honestly forget what it’s like to root for a good football team.
they were discussing the fact the Browns have not had any takeaways and that Watson and Cooper have not yet connected. Nice of the Giants to facilitate both.
Unlike many on here, I don't think Schoen/Daboll have done a bad job. I think we actually have a decent team but we have a horrendous QB. With even a Kirk Cousins-level QB we could be 11-6.
Once we move on from Daniel Jones things will look up
RE: RE: theo looking not quite ready for prime time
Rookie who did not see all of the first team reps since he was drafted.
Just relax
I'm relaxing. Just stating facts. Belly should be getting more reps
We already know what he is. Just an avg TE at best. We have to give Johnson a shot here. We will never know what we can develop him into if we do not try right now.
best part of that drive was that we were able to overcome two holding penalties. The second best part was that the play calling was good, especially the screens and fourth and one end around to Nabers.
Dear I get my hope up?... I like McFadden. He even seems effective on blitzed. Would have been nice if he could have brought down Daniels last week though
You need 4 yards and you have one of your eligible WRs circling behind the QB who is in the shotgun taking him 8 yards behind the line of scrimmage and with no chance to get back into the play.
I really feel like the D will be as successful as Bowen is flexible. So far what he likes to do is NOT working (4 man pressure, multiple gap responsibilities for EDGE defenders).
Can he adapt or will he insist and go down with his system?
or have a plan? Why exactly field the punt on your own 6 yard line? Let it bounce. If they down it so be it. Better chance it rolls into the end zone and you gain another 14 yards. Clueless team.
All I can say is "We are in this Game" despite the KO fumble for 7
So now can Singletary establish the run and Jones hit that deep pass to continue putting pressure on their aggressiveness? Can we just drive for points and establish momentum again?
RE: RE: Still no sacks this year from our starting Edges
Weren't looking at full picture. Dude is often injured good player in a contract year where his number one goal was to stay healthy...dude loafed it for reasonable reasons

This offense is playing great today after a start to the game that was so bad, you wouldn't believe it if you saw it an episode of Friday Night Lights.
F*#k you guys! That’s how you win football games. People making great plays. Every throw can’t be perfect. You have to rely on your receivers making plays. The Jones hate is tough to take on this site. Most of you guys probably never even played the game.
Would like to see Thibs and Burns show a pulse at some point.
Huh? Prior to this going off on this drive, Nabers had been relatively contained. The Giants had still been moving the ball efficiently by spreading it around.
he had Johnson open and threw it too high to a guy that is 6’7” and then another throw that Leek had to stretch for and make another spectacular catch. Nit picky, thank goodness we have ourselves a #1 WR
I don't blame jones or Johnson on that miss. That was a tough play. I absolutely love Nabers. He has lived up to expectations thus far. A true number one
They have that one slight overthrow to Johnson that he still could have caught to hang on to
How about the pick that he was bailed out on? That probably emds the game. Yeah it was reversed but the penalty had absolutely nothing to do with Jones play or decision making
Shut down Jefferson you win. Shut down Hill you win. etc.
It's such a stupid argument...there's a reason Wandale is having a day...would be perfect if he didn't sit that 3rd down route short early
I agree on Robinson but let's not think we suddenly solved the QB position from one game after 6 years of mediocrity. In crunch time, he will disappoint.
it was a good time out by Daboll. the timeout made it riskier for them to go for it.
I think it just made it more likely for the Browns to go for it, plus what are the Giants getting even if they punt?
You make a solid point though
i would rather the browns punt than go because they cant score if they punt but they were just 10-20 yards from FG range. if the clock bleeds down, they are more likely to go knowing the risk is just an uncertain long fg attempt (and not a possible td drive with 1 minute on clock).
Very good half by DJ and MN showing the impact an upper tier threat can bring to an offense. Like they are at least trying to run the ball and keeping some balance.
D bringing the pressure. Browns are terrible on O.
It takes a team all the great QBs had a number 1 receiver and a good OL. The Giants OL has improved we have a difference maker on the outside. Guess what,? We also have a pretty good qb when you have the other two. Jones isn’t the fucking problem!
The trust in Jones with 15 seconds left and no timeouts. How many times have we seen a QB blow it in that situation by taking a sack or throwing it to someone short of the goal?
is abusing NFL CBs very badly. As a rookie in his third game. That is extremely impressive. Teams will have to double him regularly. That should create opportunities for others.
Jones has overall played well, and although the Browns have generated pressure, the OL for the most part has also been good. What I really like is that the Giants have used screens to effectively counter the Browns pressure.
The defense has been excellent. Tons of pressure on Watson and good tackling.
The only negative of course was the ST brainfart to start the game. But the Giants overcame that to dominate the half, and did so on the road.
This is the best overall team effort we've seen from the Giants in ages.
Jones has had a good game. Nabers has had a great game.
Joens has had a great game. His JOB is mostly to get the ball to Nabers and he has done that. Who gives a shit whether the pass is off as long as Nabers catches it?

Never seen Jones play this well against a good defense (home or away).
Nabers is key, so is the protection, but his decision making has been the best I can remember. Got to give it to him.
daboll has the offense rolling
bowen is leaning into blitzing this beat up cleveland OL
the opening kickoff was a disaster but they kept it together. impressive.
daboll also with a good timeout in the 2 minute drill and good decision to go on 4th down earlier in the game. some great screen passes.
this is a legitimate team they are beating up on the road. the offense looks dangerous against one of the best secondaries in and defensive coordinators in football. i dont want to make too much of 1 half but this was a dominant half of football minus 1 mistake.
wild card game was good too, but yeah this has more of the IND feel. i believe someone had a fumble in IND early too (slayton ?) so the vibe does feel similar to that game. need to keep foot on gas 2nd half obviously.

a lot of it is nabers but jones is doing what he has generally done - robotically throw the ball to the first read. instead of slayton dropping balls or getting played through his back nabers is making plays. wandale also made some tough catches and got the YAC they needed.
jones is an efficient and accurate qb prone to brain farts. if the ball up the top sideline was to slayton instead of nabers it's an INT. at least 1 of the tds is dropped and it's a FG.
we are seeing the theory that if you put enough weapons around him, the efficiency can outweigh the occasional brain farts. and it's working against an excellent secondary on the road.
RE: Giants D gave up 75 total yards, minus sacks (too lazy to calculate)
Browns OL is just being annihilated. They are going to have to keep someone extra in to block and try more short passes, screens, and roll outs to counteract the Giants pressure.
Daniel Jones is impressing his girlfriend in her hometown
But he is definitely a standout athlete who sticks out on the screen. Hopefully this defensive showing by the team carries over and Burns starts showing why the team made the move for him.
Can we stop with this shit. Just because people have correctly called out DJ when he plays shitty doesn’t make them haters
He has literally sucked. Happy to see him playing well
They don’t just call him out when he plays shitty. I know he hasn’t played as well as we’d all like. This team has lots of problems, not just bad QB play. You can’t play that well on a team with a league worst OL and marginal receivers. This site has become Daniel Jones sucks 95% of the time. It’s a lot more than that.
In this game he’s gotten better OL play and what looks like #1 receiver play. Let’s see if we can keep that going. Maybe, maybe he doesn’t suck!

Amazing how decent a qb can be with a functional O line and a receiver who can catch.

hurts/tua also. i think those are realistic "best cases" for jones.
I don't care how well he's playing. Every opportunity for a big play he butchers. Every fucking opportunity. He had a TD to Nabers but of course he missed it. We need a different QB. He fucking sucks.

He's not playing well. He's still not seeing the field and locking in on receivers. He's the same QB we saw in Minnesota.

True, stick to what's been working. Daboll got too cute on this drive after the first deep shot failed.
Wow it's truly been too long since this team has had any talent....DJ missed on first those and gave our stuff a 50/50 (in reality 80/20 for him)....happens

nothing if not hyperbolically delusional. he was running into sacks and bouncing balls at peoples feet in minnesota.
he missed on the first throw that drive the 2nd one malik got both hands on what would have just been a difficult back shoulder because of good D.
jones is 20/25 right now for 212 plus another 15 on the ground.
RE: RE: Thomas is actually having a pretty poor game.
Because next big play he makes this season will be his first.
Calm down.
1. Jones is not the future.
2. He has overthrown on deep passes
2. He is playing very well right now.
Take a pill and relax.
It's actually hilarious...the biggest complaint is DJ can't run a methodical offense and he's been great with his eyes today and the focus is on the negatives...which historically he's been pretty good at.
I do get the concern...since that second neck injury he hasn't been the same deep, but at same time everything people usually bitch about he's shut them up

He and the others cannot relax. We have basically two groups of people here.
1.People who know Jones is not our future.
2 A minority group of people who are so obsessed with Jones that it truly has become a debilitating mental issue for them. Best Feature is one of those people.

I ask again. What rookie QB is going to come in here and be a better QB than Daniel Jones is showing today?
how the Browns cannot make an adjustment to the Giants defense. That is really poor coaching. I am giving Bowen credit, but it looks just too easy..
They are getting beat physically across the board. No Brown is winning their matchup. You can't just scheme out of that. If it was one guy or two guys then you can
when you play man, you often have your back to the QB. that is why we saw a lot of zone last week. You cannot have your back to a scrambling QB. Watson is not that kind of threat anymore
ball on 4 we need a good bounce back drive from singletary
he's up to 150 yards in the game. other than the fumbles singletary has been good but it'd have been really nice to see barkley in this offense with nabers.
Let him. The usual "Giants player goes to Philly for revenge" pattern is that they have a good year there, then the next year Philly regrets signing them. Like Bradberry.
is playing well today. This is not an easy defense to go against.
I’d rather have Jones short term than be paying Watson or Hurts or Dak.
If people on the thread don't like DJ today than I can only imagine the uproar if we had Watson instead.
As much as I don't think much of Jones, he's still better than Watson. Watson is a joke and I question if he was ever any good.
Watson had a great offensive mind and lots of talent in Houston....great left tackle and 1-4 WRs that were tops in the league....when will people realize talent matters a lot...look at Purdy...look at Hurts ..build the damn roster and then figure out QB unless you have some bum
The Browns are still in this game at 21 - 7 so the Giants better get at least a FG here on this drive to give them breathing room and force them to be one dimensional with a limited OL.
Lost the sense of urgency. Also, I thought it was a horrible play calling series when they called the same low percentage play to Nabers on the sideline. They needed to get yards on second down.

Had lousy field position once. The other times Singletary fumbled and Jones just missed the pas to Nabers (which I like him trying and hope he keeps throwing it)

Hopefully there is a competitive game like last week. Is that too much to ask of this franchise?
Nabers will get plenty of looks but WDR, Slayton, Johnson and HYATT need some looks too.
Feel better..

OMG! You read my mind exactly word for word.

#Giants pass-rusher Brian Burns, who popped up on the injury report late in the week with a groin injury and is listed as questionable, should be good to go, source said.
We all know this is probably going to end poorly.
Feel better my BBI sparing partner
Just wondering!
2--- Get the ball as much as possible to Nabers.
3-- Stop the run.
4--- Double Cooper.
Just wondering!
if the goal is to make the playoffs and win games then yeah today is a must win.

Call me crazy but I still look forward to them!
QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson
RB Pierre Strong Jr.
CB Kahlef Hailassie
G Javion Cohen
T Jack Conklin
WR Jamari Thrash
TE David Njoku

I expect the TEs to be targeted a little bit moreso in this game. Johnson is capable, just like Bellinger in his rookie season. Don’t want Jones forcing the ball to Nabers. Cleveland has a decent secondary too.

That's like syaing don't force the ball to Jefferson etc. They should exactly force the ball to Nabers. He is significantly better thna any other Giants on Offense.
I actually have a good feeling about today. Let's go.
D needs to make them punt the ball a few times. Hopefully a turnover or two with a big improvement in stopping the run.
Thankfully, since Bowen is so married to his system, if we can even pretend to shut down the run this week, I see us getting at least a pick or two.
Offensively, lets see what you have against a good D.

Jim totally agree!
If we lose, lose ugly and or lose decisively then Daboll will be on his way out. Cannot imagine him staying if we start 0-3 with Boys next on the schedule..
I listened after the Week 1 beatdown - he called it the “Century Red Wedding.” Great Game of Thrones reference that had me cracking up.

I am more concerned with the decision to allow him to run it out.

So it’s jones fault that our best WR runs a 4 yard hook? Who else was open? You think if we were to get a first down - a play would have been called for our best WR to run past the sticks.

Jones needs to keep patient and hit those easy plays and run when the seem is there.

We're good.
The TE broke off his route on that pass. It would have been right in the gut of our TE if he does not stop.
However, do not despair because I am sure Jones will provide enough material before the end of this game.

I really feel like the D will be as successful as Bowen is flexible. So far what he likes to do is NOT working (4 man pressure, multiple gap responsibilities for EDGE defenders).
Can he adapt or will he insist and go down with his system?
Doesn't even matter. Ojulari is better
He had worse numbers than Daniel Jones coming in. What were you expecting?

Agreed. He's been dominant.
How many times do I have to tell people that the success rate of QBs who leave school that early is exceedingly low?
I can't remember the last time the punt returner just let it bounce. I feel like this hasn't been a thing in the NFL in 20 years.
Watson threw the ball out of bounds at least 5 yards short of the LOS

So now can Singletary establish the run and Jones hit that deep pass to continue putting pressure on their aggressiveness? Can we just drive for points and establish momentum again?

i would rather the browns punt than go because they cant score if they punt but they were just 10-20 yards from FG range. if the clock bleeds down, they are more likely to go knowing the risk is just an uncertain long fg attempt (and not a possible td drive with 1 minute on clock).
this team could be something if they figure out how to not fuck up every first play of the game.
Just wow!!!
Daniel Jones on the road in a non primetime game is the best version of him we’re gonna get

Too soon to judge. Wait for Dallas prime-time.
Joens has had a great game. His JOB is mostly to get the ball to Nabers and he has done that. Who gives a shit whether the pass is off as long as Nabers catches it?
Good point
Maybe we should have played the starters in preseason?

41 total yards
a lot of it is nabers but jones is doing what he has generally done - robotically throw the ball to the first read. instead of slayton dropping balls or getting played through his back nabers is making plays. wandale also made some tough catches and got the YAC they needed.
jones is an efficient and accurate qb prone to brain farts. if the ball up the top sideline was to slayton instead of nabers it's an INT. at least 1 of the tds is dropped and it's a FG.
we are seeing the theory that if you put enough weapons around him, the efficiency can outweigh the occasional brain farts. and it's working against an excellent secondary on the road.
41 net yes for Cle and 24 came on the first play they ran

You can’t play that well on a team with a league worst OL and marginal receivers. This site has become Daniel Jones sucks 95% of the time. It’s a lot more than that.
In this game he’s gotten better OL play and what looks like #1 receiver play. Let’s see if we can keep that going. Maybe, maybe he doesn’t suck!

Defense has to show up again

It’s not the Jones we’re used to, he’s been great
a lot of it is nabers but jones is doing what he has generally done - robotically throw the ball to the first read. instead of slayton dropping balls or getting played through his back nabers is making plays. wandale also made some tough catches and got the YAC they needed.
jones is an efficient and accurate qb prone to brain farts. if the ball up the top sideline was to slayton instead of nabers it's an INT. at least 1 of the tds is dropped and it's a FG.
we are seeing the theory that if you put enough weapons around him, the efficiency can outweigh the occasional brain farts. and it's working against an excellent secondary on the road.
This is why JimmyG types go to Super Bowls etc. At best DJ is mediocre in terms of making his team better but mediocre can be good enough when you are good across the board.
Stop it
No, they just said he fumbled only once all last year

hurts/tua also. i think those are realistic "best cases" for jones.
Dude
Let's relax
Except can they cut him next year?
I would take a big shot here...
Maybe he was never good. Maybe he was a stat compiler on a bad team, gaining empty yards in out of reach games.
Or maybe he misses those massages.
If Cleveland put Winston in I think we'd have a game again.

I’d be methodical and burn out their D
I was thinking the same thing.
You're telling me someone fixed Sam Darnold?!
If anyone deserves it it’s him.

No, he was GREAT in Houston. This version is unplayable
True, stick to what's been working. Daboll got too cute on this drive after the first deep shot failed.
Must have been a screen
He’s up against probably the best DE in the game.
A decent pass there and game over
The Saints are leading the Eagles 3-0, and just blocked a punt deep In Eagles territory.

awful drive. Just play your game stop trying to be something you're not.

I'm fine with taking shots. We gotta be able to keep defenses honest. Jones has to get more accurate on the deep ball.
Because next big play he makes this season will be his first.

And he's supposed to be the best LT in the game. So it's a fair criticism.
Cool
We are dominating and only up 14....can never be easy I guess
He's not playing well. He's still not seeing the field and locking in on receivers. He's the same QB we saw in Minnesota.
I thought this was the "year of the groin." But now it looks like it's the "year of the calf."
They almost have to. Watson is terrible.
STFU please.
Quote:
I don't care how well he's playing. Every opportunity for a big play he butchers. Every fucking opportunity. He had a TD to Nabers but of course he missed it. We need a different QB. He fucking sucks.

Honestly, you guys don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

Calm down.
1. Jones is not the future.
2. He has overthrown on deep passes
2. He is playing very well right now.
Take a pill and relax.

Eh, if they throw the flag then we might be singing a different tune. Think he saw a match up he liked and said “beat us.” Cleveland didn’t, they just held the flag. I don’t hate the call.
I’d rather have Jones short term than be paying Watson or Hurts or Dak.
Who cares? He is 20-25. If the 1st read is open that often, why would he go to his second read?

it's so bizarre being on the other side of an OL implosion.
Another Browns OL is hurt unfortunately. They are playing their backups to their backups.

Literally Eli told him if he sees his first read open to pull the trigger fast and trust it this week.
He has been tackling well all day and leads the team in tackles right now.
That is a tough open field tackle and nearly got him down
He was in position, but should have wrapped him up instead of throwing a shoulder at his legs
Went right around Willis,

The complaint is that Jones can't make the big plays or elevate the offense the way a big money franchise QB should.
A game like today's? Where he doesn't have to play well or actually, well, DO anything but not screw things up? Jones can do that.
Calf.

He and the others cannot relax. We have basically two groups of people here.
1.People who know Jones is not our future.
2 A minority group of people who are so obsessed with Jones that it truly has become a debilitating mental issue for them. Best Feature is one of those people.
calf. they tend to linger so that's not a good one unless it was just a cramp.
Calf
Unfortunately a calf….hes a stud too and we need him in the secondary
The adjustment they should make is replacing Watson.

I would prefer to win, he would give them a better chance to win, so no thank you
It's been working all day.

Browns fans are not happy with him that’s for sure. They’re hoping Browns get another QB prospect in next year.
I don’t want to kill your positivity my man, but between this and the AT comment, are you trying to jinx us? Haha.
It took Webster a few years to put it all together. Hopefully Banks is gaining experience and developing.

As much as I don't think much of Jones, he's still better than Watson. Watson is a joke and I question if he was ever any good.
DJ your time to shine bud

Calling them as I see them in a stream of consciousness lol.
Yes….stay methodical and take what they give you….burn clock and get that D gassed
Let him. The usual "Giants player goes to Philly for revenge" pattern is that they have a good year there, then the next year Philly regrets signing them. Like Bradberry.

Watson had a great offensive mind and lots of talent in Houston....great left tackle and 1-4 WRs that were tops in the league....when will people realize talent matters a lot...look at Purdy...look at Hurts ..build the damn roster and then figure out QB unless you have some bum

Haha, I’m just breaking your balls. It’s nice to have some good things to say about the squad for however long we get it, keep streamin!
Great punt there too.
Great punt there too.
No sense in throwing it up for grabs
Lost the sense of urgency. Also, I thought it was a horrible play calling series when they called the same low percentage play to Nabers on the sideline. They needed to get yards on second down.

That call is what killed the momentum.

Agreed.
They are not gunshy...
They went right back to him and handed him the ball inside of our 10 yard line. Just did it again
The guy can get open anytime he wants.
Doug Analytics
@Doug_Analytics
Browns Win Probability
Before kickoff: 75%
After kickoff fumble recovery: 81%
After 1st play TD: 89%
Browns went from 75% to 89% win probability in the first 11 seconds
where's HBart when you need him?
Who throws a ball up for grabs in the middle of the field?
