Same feeling. How can the Giants look at Jones and still think he is the guy? Baffling.
Apparently it is seven since five and six have been exactly the same as one through four...
He's a mid-level backup, about the 40th-50th best QB in the league.

The Giants' offense performance since Daniel Jones was installed as starting QB:
2019 - 18th in points/23rd in yards
2020 - 31/31
2021 - 31/31
2022 (the golden year of Jones, per DJFC) - 15/18
2023 - 30/29
2024 - 29/21
17th in adjusted EPA per play (23 non-adjusted)
20th in PFF
These are better numbers than 2023, but not 2022. The main issue is that so many resources have been invested to gas up the passing game, so you wuold hope he hits these numbers as a minimum. Nevertheless, if you can't run the ball very effectively or don't have a great defens, this type of performance won't translate to a lot of wins.
THe problem is that he's run out of time basically. Moving from the 25th best QB to the 17th or 18th best isn't substantial enough to save him. Mara was incidentally talking about wanting a lucky year. The past Giants teams haven't been unlucky; they've been bad. Mara now is seeing what bad luck looks like (a mostly healthy and improved team losing close games) and it's going to sink Jones.

Spoken like a true DJ excuser. He stinks and was always a mistake! Nothing to with luck or circumstance.. 6 fricken years of him being unchallenged starters have proven that!!!

Bucs V Falcons game, I watched both Cousins and Mayfield routinely make throws that Jones won't even attempt anymore. Jones is most definitely holding the team back and I think all the players know it and it shows. It may very well be that Schoen needed this season of DJ failure to prove to Mara that we are moving on. As of today we would have the 9th pick in the draft which is not likely going to get us our pick of QB but I can't bring myself to root for a loss.

You could have watched Hard Knocks and know that's not how they currently feel.

As some are saying this season. As a matter of fact, this may be his most efficient passing performance thus far (his 2022 numbers were juiced up through running).

lmao I am definitely not a DJ supporter. I wanted him gone this season. I just don't believe he flat out sucks. With a mediocre supporting cast, he's tended to be around the 25th best QB in the league with the exception of the running-fueled 2022 season. With a good supporting cast, like he has now, he's around the 17th or 18th best. This is not a great thing because you could get this level of production with a good OC and a salvage project QB that is available for cheap nearly every offseason (Baker, Darnold, Fields etc.

Define "they" ...
As bad as Toney and Baker were - their impacts on the team were at least fleeting. These two ended up leaving huge scars on the team for years to come thanks to their limited success while on the NYG.
What he is, to me, is a guy who can move the ball between the 20s, but never consistently pulls off game changing plays that lead to wins
As for last night’s game, check out Baker’s TD to old friend Sterling Shepherd. Brilliant, accurate throw into a very tight window. Quite a display by both Baker and Cousins last night. If only…
Their actions say "This is your team."

It's produce, or back up.
He's made his bag. Now he can leave.
He was HISTORICALLY bad last year. How could it be worse.
Jones went 1-5 with 2 TDs and 6 INTs throwing 2 pick 6s. This was the second lowest 2 TDs to pass attempts in NFL history to start a season
He also starting a non-TD streak AFTER the Arizona game before getting injured that lasted into this season. He went on to throw 153 passes without a TD (to his own team) that is second worst in NFL history. Just 1 pass short of the dubious record.
He only managed a TD in 1 half of a game in the entire season. He had a TD only in one half out of 11 that he played. Only in 2 quarters out of the 22 he played in.
He was historically bad. It would be nearly impossible to play any worse.
Both QBs last night, who are probably in ~15 range of current starters, constantly made throws Jones won't even attempt. He's shot, he looks and plays shot.
Their actions say "This is your team."
Totally agreed who they are matters here...
I "get" almost everything new regime (Schoen/Daboll) have done in their time in NYG.
BUT
How they (Schoen/Daboll? - maybe it's Jints ramming this down their throats) have handled the QB position is completely mind boggling.
It's very likely that the NYG will finish in the middle/near bottom of the pack this year in the NFL effectively pushing them too far away from the top of the draft to get an impact QB (sound familiar?) meanwhile - they HAVE to exercise DJ's out at the end of the season OR re-negotiate a deal (his contract is worse in a lot of ways should they keep him).
And this is on top of the passing on the 5th year option and signing him to a deal with an option to get out of it...but leaving themselves no contingency should they want to move on from DJ (which there is a clear desire to do after watching Hard Knocks).
The only thing that makes sense is a disconnect between the Schoen/Daboll camp and Jints Central. Has to be.

To me? Schoen wanted the rookie QB, and while Daboll wouldn't have been opposed to drafting the top 3, wanted the blue chip WR prospect. They didn't mention any of Nix, McCarthy or Penix at all in a trade down scenario. Schoen said over and over how Daniel's injuries are a real concern.
If this dink and dunk offense is what Brian Daboll plans to do all year then DeVito is a better option than Jones. Go back and look at the games DeVito played last year and the ball placement on his short throws vs the ball placement on short throws this year by Jones. I think that Jones is not close to fully recovered from the neck and knee injuries. He has lost velocity and accuracy on his passes and he is no longer a threat to run.
Watch these highlights of DeVito from last year and tell me that the version of Daniel Jones we've seen this year is a better passer and runner.
Check out the ball placement at the 3:00 minute mark.
Tommy DeVito | 2023 Highlights - ( New Window )
True, he sees the field better than Jones, but that is insane much. He also took a gazillion sacks and you have to wonder whether he really is any better. He did sit on the practice squad last year and had no takers. ask yourself, if his name was Smith and he was from New Mexico and on another team, would anybody hear have any interest in him. I think the answer is no.
Let’s not fall into the 70s trap of thinking bad players are good just because they sit on the bench.
The spray chart speaks volumes.
Or maybe at the very least Devito is the plan should the Giants be unable to land QB in the offseason?
QBs like DJ do.
Shitty QBs absolutely grow on trees. And ours rotted and fell from the tree.
It's what I don't understand from his supporters. These are QBs who many people were saying Jones was equal to or better than.... And both are good but probably in the middle tier of NFL QBs and Jones is nowhere close to those guys.
He's the epitome of what defenses want in this era. He keeps everything in front of them, makes the occasional bonehead mistake, and so far this year can't do any damage with his legs.
Ironic that there was one to Sterling Shepard, and what a nicely placed ball it was.
I am not in any way defending DJ. But the only spray chart I saw was his game against Dallas where everyone was killing him but Daks was worse. I never saw anybody else’s QB spray chart. Most teams this year aren’t throwing deep because of the 2 deep & umbrella she’ll most defenses are using. We all know DJ isn’t very good and this year his deep ball is atrocious. I’d like to see all QBs spray chart from this year..
Jones isn't the only reason the offense sucks. He's simply one of them. He can no longer gain yards on the ground, and he's missing the deep opportunities that are there.

hahahah
Buckle up big guy - they ain't goin away!
But that was funny.
And yet you clicked and commented
Gosh, it's almost as if a shitty QB who can't hit on a big play if his life depended on it is a major handicap on an offense! Why would anyone be talking about that?
Stats alone don’t tell you everything.
He wasn’t the 6th best QB in 2022, no matter what QBR says.

Oh how the team has let him down...
QBs have his caliber sure do. You just don’t pay them 40 million or start them for 6 seasons.
Was this another one of those threads that forced you to open it and comment on it?
I don't like the FF threads. I don't open them and post about how stupid they are because other people are free to talk about whatever they like, even if it doesn't interest me.
I hate it for you that you live in a world where people talk about subjects you would prefer are never discussed.
Downhill ever since that game. Not even Nabers shining talent is enough to break the chain, and he's already concussed.
If I had 10 weeks of PTO it'd be fun to go back and pull up every dumb part you've made on Jones.

Let’s not forget his the Giants aren’t taking Nabers because he’s an asshole and Odunze was their guy.
Kafka was a better offensive play caller than Daboll
What a miserable player he is. The most emblematic Daniel Jones play was his [link=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRsnQL-zw44]80 yard run a few years ago[/link]. Even when every possible thing goes his way he manages to **** it up. And he's going to get Malik Nabers killed if he keeps starting. Save the kid for a new QB, someone who might be able to hit him 20+ yards down the road and not leave him toast for linebackers to behead.
always falling short
