Dabs on (lack of) explosive plays:

SFGFNCGiantsFan : 10/14/2024 4:06 pm
From today's presser-

The Giant Insider Podcast and Newspaper
@GiantInsider
Daboll:

"Our inability to create explosive plays either through the air or on the ground is not where I want it to be."
That statement makes no sense
HardTruth : 10/14/2024 4:09 pm : link
Its a double negative
He's aware of the problem. Which isn't saying much.
81_Great_Dane : 10/14/2024 4:11 pm : link
The players aren't executing the way he wants them to, or as they're being coached to. That includes Jones, but isn't limited to Jones.
There is a more damning quote
jvm52106 : 10/14/2024 4:13 pm : link
when discussing Jones specifically. It is one of those he is doing the best he can do-which basically means they know he is VERY limited..

Not sure what the plan was or is now but I know what I would do going forward. Which I will share in our next podcast.

Actions > words
Q. How do you feel about your offense's execution?
ThomasG : 10/14/2024 4:18 pm : link
A. I am favor of it.
It's not just the lack of explosive plays itself
UberAlias : 10/14/2024 4:19 pm : link
The more damaging part is that teams have figured out that they don't have to defend the vertical game the way they other teams. The result is the underneath stuff we hit rarely opens up for YAC and our receivers are getting mugged on as soon as they catch the ball.

I don't like to speak in absolutes (I'm not a Sith) but I feel pretty safe saying that Daboll knows Jones needs to be replaced. What the plan is to do it? That's another story, I have no clue.

Exactly, as in Cinn putting 8 people right on the 1st down line and daring the Giants to throw over their head. Giants didn't.
How about his abandonment
jeff57 : 10/14/2024 5:09 pm : link
Of the running game in the first half.
I love it

For being nonsense.

Bingo! How many times have people stated on this site season after season after season...."teams have figured out"
It’s not entirely true
Daniel in MI : 10/14/2024 6:01 pm : link
That teams figured out they don’t have to defend deep. They stayed in a 2 deep zone. That means they’re taking away the deep shot. It’s incumbent on the O to make them pay for having a light box by either running effectively and making them bring a S down, or being good enough at the short game they have to get out of the shell.

We couldn’t run on the light box, so that’s on the OL and TEs.

But DJ and the WRs couldn’t make them pay enough in the short game. Here you can say DJ’s inaccuracy limiting YAC, or not finding the intermediate option hurt. And the WRs are not explosive enough. I also done see why we can’t get TEs more involved. Spread the ball. Whether that’s Dabes or DJ idk,

This is completely false. The Bengals played 1 deep safety all game and DARED the Giants to throw deep, which is why they couldn't run the ball, there were 11 men within 10 yds of the LOS all game. Seattle stayed in a 2 high shell which is why they WERE able to run the ball, because the Seahawks refused to adjust to what the Giants can/can't do. Cincinnati knew DJ couldn't throw deep so they just stacked the box all day and said go ahead, throw deep, we dare you.

Good post. Teams are taking away the deep ball while having no fear that DJ and the WRs are skilled enough to hurt them in the short game.

This. Cinn also knew DJ stares down his preferred receiver and was going to look for Slayton over and over, REGARDLESS of who else was open.
It's literally a combination of everything
DeVito32 : 10/14/2024 7:19 pm : link
Starting with Jones.Terrible with the deep ball.
Hyatt sucks.
Playcalling and personnel have been weird. A lot of multiple TE sets with only 2 WR going out on routes.
Outside of last week, absolutely no running game. So the defenses don't have to put safeties in the box. Last week Tracey ran like a beast and what do you know, a few deep balls to Slayton.
Yesterday he abandoned the run in the first half. Granted the OL was dominated all game but they couldn't run, then just abandoned it.

When Nabers comes back and they keep feeding Tracey the ball, more explosive plays should happen...but they will still be limited because of DJ and lack of other weapons.
So the o line is not run blocking but lets keep Neal

On the bench instead of getting him reps at right guard.

Makes no sense
