Might as well, season is essentially lost especially with Thomas out. Seriously F this team for not being prepared with LT depth.
before they even knew the outcome with Thomas to be, you can’t play Daniel behind a line with Neal or Ezeudu at LT and risk the injury guarantee. Devito time.
5th year option. Seems highly unlikely they exercise it, but would make sense to give him a look there to be sure. Ezeudu has been completely awful at tackle and looked just as bad in the preseason. If Neal isn't better than him, then it's a huge failure by the front office to not have any tackle insurance.
I worry about the limitations of DJ and Daboll's offense now. They struggle to barely even get first downs and need to get 6+ successive first downs to get a TD. How conservative and predictable is it going to get now when they try and scheme extra help for the backup tackle?

I mean they signed a good RT and he's played well. They had a pro bowl LT. They had a 7th overall prospect on the bench in Neal. It's pretty hard to possess a good swing tackle let along good starting tackles.
Maybe Neal plays well. He's getting good coaching now. I can't kill NYG for the way they handled tackle this season. They devoted a ton of resources to the OL in FA.
of ongoing auditions for second contracts. For longer-term goals, this could be beneficial for roster construction going forward although this season would be (is) toast. Ezeudu and Neal will have to take advantage of the opportunities afforded as they will become further and farther between without performance. Next man up....
Define/develop assets, cull non-performance and use or keep assets in the future depending upon what is needed to secure a QB.
That and wishing AT a speedy and complete recovery.
And play what he was drafted here at the No. 7 overall pick. If he fails, then he needs to be off the team next year. No need wasting more time on him.
And either see if he is salvageable or write him off. They will stubbornly stick with Jones despite the injury clause and the terrible play.
And yeah, the 5 Jones apologists left on this site just started jumping up and down that they have an excuse to say Season 6 can’t be used to evaluate Jones because he was playing like a superstar before Thomas got hurt (because that will explain away the game against the Bengals).

I agree that it was 100% right to extend him. But at this point, anyone thinking it is just bad luck is stupid. At some point you have to realize that he is injury prone--that is not his fault and it is really unfortunate, but the fact that he played 2 of 6 complete seasons, played 16 of 34 games in 23 and 24 cannot be ignored or attributed to bad luck. It is that type of thinking that has gotten this organization into a host of issues in the past decade. I am not sure what the solution is in that you just have to play Thomas and hope for the best because he is so talented, but we need to prepare in future years for this recurrence, unlike this year.

That would be bold; and, I believe, the right move. But there is NFW I can see that happening right now.
And here's why. The NFCE is an oil spill. It's completely up for grabs.
Washington looks the best, but they just lost one of the best defenders in Jonathan Allen. And their D was already a bottom third performer.
Dallas is a sieve on D and they can't run the ball.
And the Eagles are one more bad loss away from a complete implosion inside the Linc.
So, NYG is still in it; and this is where Mara uses the ownership card and insists the team stay the course until they are officially mathematically eliminated.
Wish Thomas a complete successful recovery
As far as who replaces Thomas I would play Neal at RT and Elumenor at LT.
We need to make a final decision on Neal going into 2025.

This. Season is over Neal needs to get time. Don't care which side either. That's Bricillos call.
The Giants do not have a snowball's chance in hell to grab anything. Other than maybe a few more meaningless wins at the buzzer that only screw up our draft position.
…and some analysts have speculated that his problems at ROT are because he’s had difficulty making the switch from LOT (plus injuries of course). So why not play him at LOT?
at ROT his 2nd year at Bama, he moved to LOT his last year.

You don't want to disrupt 2 positions because one guy got hurt.

The out is that when we resigned him, we didn’t have the information of the last two years. Now we do in combination with his history of the first four years. Could it be bad luck? Maybe so, but if the giants just ascribe it to bad luck and don’t plan based on his documented injury history they are idiots. In other words, hope for the best, but plan for the worst. Backup LT is a vital, vital need now. Hoping this is bad luck and hoping it won’t happen again “isn’t a plan”

Good luck in the recovery and hope to better health in future seasons.
Injury prone? How many games has he missed due to injury?

I definitely feel that Neal needs to be the RT and JEL moved to LT. I don't like Ezeudu out there at all.
I guess we're not going to get the 'DJ 101st Last Chance Podcast'. Seriously tho, here's to a quick recovery, and good health to AT.
It's time to move off Jones. Time to see just how bad Drew Lock will be. We've seen other QB's that teams have given up on doing pretty well.
Get DJ out as he WILL gt hurt and we will be stuck with that cap hit. Get Evan Neal in and see what this 1st round, 7th pick MFer can do. Sink or swim. When he sinks, move on. I don't expect anything good to come of this season as last season when Thomas went out we proceeded to tank, just not enough. I do think they need to realize that whoever plays QB will most likely face injury. Love Bricillo, but I don't think there is talent enough on the roster to keep the QB from getting injured.

It was clear that Evan Neal couldn't play tackle in the NFL
Within the first month of starting here in 2022. He simply cannot pass protect on an island. It has nothing to do with coaching. It has to do with balance, quickness and athleticism. He is a ferocious run blocker and is better suited at guard in the NFL.
The only reason Neal has flown under the subterfuge of injuries and coaching changes is to deflect criticism of this GM for the outright bust and waste of a top ten draft pick. The fact that instead of simply moving Eluemunor to LT and playing Neal at RT, they would rather go with Josh Ezeudu at LT, who is downright putrid at playing the position, tells us everything we need to know about what they think of Evan Neal at tackle.
Didn't he work mix and mmatch magic in Vegas with injuries.
I am sure he has a plan and a plan B.
Let's see what happens.
But yes.....Are we cursed????? Yes.
You don't beat the 17-0 Patriots in the SB with a helmet catch and a TD by a one-legged WR and then again in 2012 without residual curse material falling our way....even years and years afterwards.
RE: There’s the DJ excuse crutch for bringing him back
Huge loss for this team. He’s likely their best/2nd best player.
I can't imagine anyone using that as an excuse again. We have all seen enough to know that DJ needs to be replaced. Off target throws, poor timing and late throws etc. He is damaged goods at this point and can no longer read the field and wok through his progressions. Time for him to go and hopefully draft a replacement. No more excuses.
from 6 months to a year to come back from and for athletes could alter their career! Not just about this year now. What do the Giants do at LT now going into next year?! Drafting a LT at some point now becomes critical, unless Ezuedu grows to become a serviceable LT. Thomas may not be ready to start the season next year! Jeez can we just get a break! No pun intended.

Agreed, but we are now approaching the territory of possibly needing to explore the future at LT, because he just can't be relied on to stay healthy.
A jumpy QB does not need to worry about his blindside. We have seen how jumpy Jones is with protection and neither of the likely replacements is going to improve his confidence.

Take the names out of it.
Why would you intentionally create two questionable positions when you currently have one position problem to solve?
RT is fine. Dont break something that's working great. Why? 'Return of investment' doesnt come into play here. Putting the best unit on the field is the only play.

Because the blind side tackle is by far the more critical position. And putting Ezeudu at left tackle is not a solution - he is putrid. Eluemunor solves the left tackle problem and also gives Bricillo a chance to see how well Neal has elevated his game under Bricillo's tutelage.
I think the move is pretty clear: JE to LT, Neal to RT,
assuming Neal is healthy. Jermaine has played there before, and has shown an ability to play multiple OL positions. As far as we know, Neal has only practiced at RT. We have to see if he can play the position he was drafted to play.
Plan B would be Ezuedu at LT. But I think if that happens, it means Neal isn't healthy.
You don't want to disrupt 2 positions because one guy got hurt.
___________
If Thomas was going to be out for just a few games, maybe you could let Ezeudu and Neal compete for LT. But for 11 games, I would rather see Eluemunor at LT and Neal at RT.
RE: I think the move is pretty clear: JE to LT, Neal to RT,
Plan B would be Ezuedu at LT. But I think if that happens, it means Neal isn't healthy.
If Neal is still not healthy, why isn't he on IR?
If he can't beat out Ezuedu at tackle when he IS healthy, he shouldn't be on the roster. This isn't rocket science. If Neal is that bad, he's talking up a valuable roster spot.
I think Daboll’s press conference tells you what Plan A and Plan B is.
Plan B: If Ezeudu can’t cut it, Eluemunor to LT and Neal to RT. This is also the plan for this week’s backup tackles.
Plan C: If they can get to the bye week with Plan A, maybe they work Neal at LT during the bye week. That’s playing it “by ear”. Personally, I don’t see how Neal could be better than Eluemunor at LT without a lot of practice.
Another crazy option would be Runyan at LT. He was a college LT and it would be easier to work Stinnie in at LG.
RE: RE: RE: It was clear that Evan Neal couldn't play tackle in the NFL
Good luck in the recovery and hope to better health in future seasons.
If LT is an issue, it’s easier to scheme for that than it is both tackle spots by moving the launch point and chipping.

It was 100% the right decision to extend him. These last two injuries haven’t even been related to his previous ankle issues. It’s just been bad luck
Come on..deflect blame from the GM? He was a consensus top 10 pick. Seems a lot people got it wrong.

The rest of the year should be about finding out who stays and who goes. We have some pieces, need to build around them.
Again...I guess my sundays are freed up, but thanksgiving is ruined again!

Take the names out of it.
Why would you intentionally create two questionable positions when you currently have one position problem to solve?
RT is fine. Dont break something that's working great. Why? 'Return of investment' doesnt come into play here. Putting the best unit on the field is the only play.

Within the first month of starting here in 2022. He simply cannot pass protect on an island. It has nothing to do with coaching. It has to do with balance, quickness and athleticism. He is a ferocious run blocker and is better suited at guard in the NFL.

Because the blind side tackle is by far the more critical position. And putting Ezeudu at left tackle is not a solution - he is putrid. Eluemunor solves the left tackle problem and also gives Bricillo a chance to see how well Neal has elevated his game under Bricillo's tutelage.
Plan B would be Ezuedu at LT. But I think if that happens, it means Neal isn't healthy.
If Thomas was going to be out for just a few games, maybe you could let Ezeudu and Neal compete for LT. But for 11 games, I would rather see Eluemunor at LT and Neal at RT.
If Neal is still not healthy, why isn't he on IR?
If he can't beat out Ezuedu at tackle when he IS healthy, he shouldn't be on the roster. This isn't rocket science. If Neal is that bad, he's talking up a valuable roster spot.
He was a college LT and it would be easier to work Stinnie in at LG.
gives Bricillo a chance to see how well Ezeudu has elevated his game under Bricillo's tutelage.
