Tankathon 3-Round Mock Draft

M.S. : 10/21/2024 7:05 am

As a Giants fan, there are at least 4 things not to like about this Mock Draft:

(1) Due to our strength of schedule, we are picking 9th which is four slots behind the Jets who have the same record.
(2) The Giants miss out on two top QBs: Shedeur Sanders (#2 to Carolina) and Cam Ward (#4 to Miami).
(3) There's nothing wrong per se about the Giants selecting a very fine OT out of Texas (Kelvin Banks, Jr.), but mocking him to the Giants at #9 underscores what an utter failure Joe Schoen has been in trying to re-build the Giants O-line via the Draft.
(4) With the 40th pick, the Giants select QB Carson Beck who is not exactly off to a scintillating start, and drafting a running back at #71 (Ohio State's TreVeyon Henderson) fills a position that represents the least of the Giants worries.

It's difficult to find a silver lining in this mess of a franchise, but at least we can be assured of one thing: The idea that the Giants will be picking as low as #9 is absurd. This team looks like it's tanking so a Top 3 pick is practically guaranteed. The only question I have is whether or not Joe Schoen will be making the selections and, if he manages to hold onto his job, will Brian Daboll be leading the 2025 Draft Class onto the field?

I think by draft day

The LSU QB will be going way higher than #52.

I like what I’ve seen from him but truthfully need to watch more of him, but I’ve been impressed with what I have seen.

If Schoen and Daboll are making the pick

I have little confidence in them getting it right. We are three years into this rebuild and we are still standing at Step #1, with our best players mostly being the guys that were already here.
Good timing

Kelvin Banks of Texas got a wake up call the other night vs. Georgia. And so did all of the scouts that watched him go against a few of the defensive players a bit further down that list.

"Still at Step #1"
Exactly!
Carson Beck

Over Nussmeier would be the most giants pick ever.
The Joe has done well in the draft

considering it is a crapshoot. The question remains his philosophy of "moneyball" and roster building, roster management is more under the HC's umbrella ie kicker gate of '24.

Toney has been his worst pick by far! Though outside of Azeez the '21 draft was not good at all. Hyatt is not trending like we all had hoped.

Depending on the season Joe will have to make a deal to get a QB, he has to get it done while not dismantling the D. Hopefully they are even better in '25 with the young 2ndary having logged some serious minutes.

Joe's FA moves have been iffy overall though the recent OL additions have helped his score a bit and so has the addition of Burns. However like Jones he needs to improve and show some consistency. After we are mathematically eliminated from post-season play he better have the garage sale of his life.
I don't think that mock draft

says anything about Schoen, it does quite profoundly announce that it is a crappy mock draft though. To each their own.
There is plenty of losing

In this teams future and they will move closer to a top pick as that continues.

The Panthers are worse, but the. We are on par with any other team.
I said the same thing last year

And was dead wrong but I’ll say it again: any mock draft that doesn’t have the giants taking a qb with their first pick regardless of perceived positional value is lunacy. Assuming no injury and barring some massive deviation from performance median, Jones will be cut on the first league day. Locke is on a one year deal and I do not currently see any qb free agents deserving of starting gigs with Dak off the board. With that scenario you cannot take the risk of waiting until the 2nd round to address the QB position, regardless of whether you have the QB valued 10 spots lower.

Their mock has been changing the Giants picks every other day so it truly is nothing more than a 'just for entertainment' site.
Rather draft the LSU kid in Rd 2, or trade back up /or trade down

in Rd 1 for Milroe

Umm, Toney & Ojulari were Gettleman picks. Schoen became GM in ‘22.
