Here's how I predict things go:
- The wheels fall (more) off and ownership feels there is not choice but to fire Daboll
- Which creates an untenable situation with Schoen and he chooses to leave
- Belichick is hired as an executive over football and brings in his lackeys
- The Giants are immediately better, but never legitimately compete for a championship
- Mara realizes its time to hand control off to someone
- After the 2027 season the new president cleans house
Is there any precedent for a GM resigning when it wasn't just a way to save face from being fired (ie Coughlin)?
With the issues in this organization, he will fail also.
I'm out on him. I don't know how effective he would be at this point as an NFL coach, nor do I know how great he would be minus TB12.
I just can't buy into him being the savior for this franchise.
I think this organization needs a veteran head coach that can hopefully establish a culture that makes sense in the northeast in the winter and in a league where the passing game is starting to recede: size and power on the lines, good kicking game, and intelligent play from the quarterback.
However, the coach had to be someone that can work within the antiquated structure the Maras have in place. That's going to eliminate Belichick and Vrabel, and it's going to really in some unsexy candidates that are going to piss fans off.
Names to look out for of the top of my head: Kevin Stefanski (if fired from Cleveland), Mike McCarthy (if fired from Dallas), Arthur Smith, Vic Fangio, Jim Schwartz.
I don't want to see Ben Johnson, Bobby Slowik, or any other first time sexy name. This is not the organization to go to to learn how to become a head coach.

I don't think the Giants want McCarthy. Vrabel I could see taking it as he and Cowden got along in Tennessee and one of the fights that caused his departure is that he wanted Cowden to remain the GM rather than the team looking outside of the organization. I do not mind Ben Johnson as I was high on Dan Campbell when he became available.
+1
In reference to Bill's track record as a GM, "not good" is being very kind.

I don't think they fire both Schoen and Daboll this offseason. I think Daboll could be in trouble.

I feel Johnson is appealing too but I do agree that the Giants may not be the right team to learn how to be a head coach.
But I could see Mara wanting to try and make things work with Schoen.
