Why not start Cutlets

PepperJ52 : 10/21/2024 12:29 pm
and hope he doesn’t accidentally win a game? Clearly, there’s no point running Jones back out there and risking injury/triggering the contract clause. Locke probably has more of a chance of accidentally winning a game or two.
Although tanking this year isn’t as valuable as it would have been last season, lining up the No. 1 or No. 2 pick in ‘25 either to select there or trade down and add draft capital seems prudent at this point.
For fans who still plan to watch the 10 games left on the schedule, Tommy Devito seems to at least add a measure of entertainment. Does anyone want to win 1-3 more games and end up in a less advantageous draft slot?
So, why not?
... it's a tough question
charles355 : 10/21/2024 12:31 pm : link
we can't let Daniel Jones in because we are not winning first and secondly he should be injury free at the end of season

we can't play DeVito because we may win some games and we need to lose out... sorry (see Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels)

we can play Lock but he can give us a chance to win but since I'm not feeling it with him, he is the best choice for OUR future
Because that would hurt Jones's feelings

And given how this team has operated, avoiding hurting DJ's feelings is the most important thing
live NFL Draft order
charles355 : 10/21/2024 12:36 pm : link
1-New England (possible trade up partner?)
2-Carolina (will seek a new QB)
3- Cleveland (will seek a new QB)
4-Tennessee (will seek a new QB)
5-NY jets (will seek a new QB)
6- New Orleans (will seek a new QB)
7- Jacksonville (will draft OL or OFF to help Trevor)
8- Las Vegas (will see a new QB)
9- NY Giants (right now, our position is awful...)
The status will be quo until the bye week.

We will vault into the top 3-4 over the next month+. Then win enough meaningless games at the end of the season to knock us out of qb contention
for the 2nd straight year

but why not just trade Dexter Lawrence for a haul of 2 number 1's with Detroit (their 2025 and 2026 #1's). Or trade Ojuilari with him to Detroit and leverage in a 3rd rd pick for 2026 with the haul. You guys who want to tank don't really want to lose. You just want to improve the team specifically at QB and soon, even though we have needs on the DL next to Dex, at CB1 and more OL help along with strengthening other parts of the roster. Look it sucks and it will be hard to get a QB in the draft when we are picking 9th. And more losses makes it more likely to pick higher than 9th. But there are other ways to find QB help without tanking which I think is a lousy idea. To find a middle of the road or better QB, something that clearly Jones has proven he is not, you can trade with teams for their aging QB (Stafford, Cousins), you can try a failed former high rd pick like Darnold, Derek Carr, Mayfield type, you can hire a decent enough bridge guy while drafting a developmental QB in the second or third round...or you can tank and pray the losses are enough to be worse than others using a strategy of trying to lose to get the best QB of this upcoming drafts prospects. I hate the later strategy frankly and would not do it. You must keep looking for the top QB's out there and you must draft them more frequently than we have since we drafted Jones. But you dont have to push all the losses so we can make the next draft be the end all be all. Who knows if there is a cant miss guy in this upcoming QB group. You are better off strengthening the team while always being on the hunt for a QB prospect you love in the draft while ensuring you have at least adequate QB play while you are on the hunt
TD Starting Might Hurt
MojoEd : 10/21/2024 12:49 pm : link
I assume based on his #3 depth chart status, the NYG view him as a backup not franchise talent. Td’s 3 wins last year arguably hurt the NYG more than it helped. TD wins in 2024 would likely have the same result.
Mostly because the Giants

are prejudiced against Italians. Imagine that, in this day and age, prejudiced against Italians.

He is not a good QB and has no business being in an NFL game

Perhaps. But I have a feeling starting TD this year will have a ripple effect and most of the team will be quiet quitting

If his name was John Smith and he was from Nebraska, no one here would give a shit about him. The minute Tyrod was hale and hearty last season, DeVito sat and Tyrod is a journeyman backup. Granted, Devito is a better passer than Jones, so is Drew Lock for that matter, but that is a pretty low bar.

Let's assume, Schoen and Daboll are still here come draft time. What do they give away for a pick high enough to get a qb? Do they tried and pull a Minnesota and give a day 2 or 3 pick for someone's failed former #1, like Wilson in Denver? Sign a free agent like Fields, Darnold or Wilson?

Exactly. It’s in the Giants’ best interest to not win another game this year (and keep Jones healthy). Believe me, it hurts to feel this way. Last season, I was happy when the Giants went on that mini-run and even beat Philly in the finale. I brooded over the losses to the Jets and Rams.
In retrospect, I realize it would have been much better to be in position to draft Daniels or Maye. We’ve already seen Daniels take off. Maye sure looked very promising despite the loss yesterday. He made some sick throws we haven’t seen from JD since his rookie year debut against Tampa. Even in DJ’s good performance against Minny in that wildcard game win, he didn’t make the impressive deep throws Maye did yesterday.
We missed the boat in the last draft and who knows if there’s a worthy QB in the next one. But if not, I’d prefer the Giants be in the best possible position to fill one of several important needs.

Probably true.

We have reached the point where TDV might be the lesser of two evils. DJ is going to get hurt and then the Giants will be on the hook for his salary for 2025. It is imperative they part ways with DJ, which means he has to be on the bench. I assume Lock is first off the bench but I think TDV can get on the field, sure, why not.

We couldn't go from #6 to #3 this year with the current braintrust at the helm. So coming up from #9 will be near impossible.
Because he isnt any good

I'd argue the opposite. Jones inspires no one. Maybe a few players might play if there's a change at QB.
