Trevor Sikkema's Top Five QBs in the 2025 NFL Draft

Anakim : 10/23/2024 12:17 am
1. Jalen Milroe, Alabama
2. Cam Ward, Miami (FL)
3. Shedeur Sanders, Colorado
4. Conner Weigman, Texas A&M
5. Garrett Nussmeier, LSU

Personally, I'd have Ward at #1, but Sikkema gives his reasoning for the rankings in the article.

Also, regarding Travis Hunter, I could be wrong, but I think he seems Hunter more as a CB than WR

No fan of Milroe

He would be no earlier than a second in my book.

Ward is my number one as well.
Ward is definitely a playmaker
BlackLight : 10/23/2024 1:44 am : link
with a gunslinger's mentality, but he also makes a lot of bad decisions. He's not going to get away with that stuff on Sundays. Will need to see how coachable he is.
Some thoughts
Mike in NY : 10/23/2024 4:52 am : link
Nuss I think is the most ready to play on Sundays

Ward probably has the most upside, but to reach it I think you need a bridge QB (a la Alex Smith and Patrick Mahomes). Note, I am not saying that Ward is Mahomes, but the growth he had in college indicates that he does better as he gets more practice

Sanders is the big wild card. He does stuff that other QB’s don’t do, but can that translate to the next level or are we just seeing the effect of more pro coaching than college kids typically receive? I am concerned about the rumors of him audibling from run to pass and leaving his OL out to dry in order to boost his stats and what sort of role his father will play especially when losses inevitably happen. You watch the great QB’s and, even if it is not their fault, they always take responsibility for losses (and always try to refuse single credit for a win). Do the proper due diligence and wherever he ends up on your board he ends up

There's no way Mara would let the team draft Sanders.
I think Milroe should stay in school one more year
Rick in Dallas : 10/23/2024 7:47 am : link
He is only 21 years old.
Ward feels like a Mahomes type
GiantGrit : 10/23/2024 9:00 am : link
Who would probably benefit from a year on the bench. A lot to like but his game needs refinement.
I don’t like any of these guys. Been saying it since the spring.
The_Boss : 10/23/2024 10:03 am : link
College season is half over and I’ve seen nothing from this class that has me thinking the NYG have to get one of these guys.
Sanders or Nuss...

compete for NFC East in 2025.
That list has a few names that should be top 5 and
ThomasG : 10/23/2024 11:29 am : link
some that are not. The order needs work too.

However imv, this isn't like last year when Williams/Daniels/Maye were the clear prizes before we hit November. Going to need to see how things shake out over next month and the CFB playoffs to put together the right Top 5 for this next draft. Fine to discuss but it is hitting a moving target.

It's very helpful when these prospects have to go against good defenses. It really clarifies the short list.
Weigman?...
bw in dc : 10/23/2024 11:41 am : link
Hmmm. Not seeing that one yet.

I'm going...

1. Nussmeier
2. Milroe
3. Sanders
4. Rourke/Ward

5. Others

The Giants are doomed if Mara over rides Schoen on a QB choice. I doubt the Giants are interested, but if Sanders is the top QB choice left when they draft, and the Scouts say he's a premium choice, then Schoen should be fired if he passes him, controversy or not.

I still think Dallas makes a full court press to get Sanders, especially if Dak has another playoff breakdown. Sanders would be perfect for Jerry Jones's and Deion's marketing machine. He'd make both a ton of cash.
Weigman, LOL
PatersonPlank : 10/23/2024 11:56 am : link
The guy isn't even that good a college QB, seriously I watch him all the time
Nussmeier has a date in College Station this Saturday evening
ThomasG : 10/23/2024 12:52 pm : link
I believe. The two remaining undefeated teams in the SEC.

Should be a good test for the young lad in front of that friendly crowd.

And that crowd had better include Joe Schoen.

I think this is right. Maybe it is just the number thirteen, but am I seeing some Dan Marino in Nussmeier's game? The footwork, the vision, the quick release, the cannon... I think you have nailed this. And putting Rourke right up there with Ward may be just as big of an insight as your early Nussmeier take. What the heck was Rourke doing for four years at Ohio!?! It is a shame that his thumb injury and surgery might hurt his draft position.

The MAC has some good football actually with Ohio, Miami of Ohio, Buffalo, Toledo, etc. They get a lot of kids who don't get a Big Ten look. Rourke made some nice steady progress at Ohio and eventually became MAC PTOY. In his last year of eligibility, he entered the portal and found a home in Bloomington. Just a good story.

But, yeah, the thumb injury stinks. Hopefully, he gets back soon. I'm hearing maybe two weeks or even less. I know ESPN GameDay is going to Bloomington this weekend for the IU/Washington game. It would have been a great if Rourke was playing. But they have an interesting sophomore in Tayven Jackson. Big kid with a decent arm. And he's in good hands with Cignetti because he can coach and develop QBs. Saban thinks very highly of him (he was on Saban's staff for three years).

Everyone was talking about Carson Beck.

And he's not even on the list now?
