A common theme among NYG fans: Enough is enough

Sean : 10/23/2024 3:29 pm
I'm getting the sense with all the Giant fans I talk to, hearing the most recent episode with Eric and John, and the overall mood of BBI, fans have had it.

Sick of losing. Sick of losing specifically to Dallas and Philly. Frustration with crappy QB play. Tired of seasons being over by Halloween. Overall apathy regarding any game specific talk.

It feels like this franchise is in another serious crossroads. I only see it getting uglier this season.

The fans have all had it. No one wants to hear about patience or being gaslit anymore from NYG media.
I'm sick and f'ing tired of an 8 and 10 record

I feel like fans are in revolt

You will not see many Giant fans in the stands and merchandise should be on sale soon.

Anyone want a Jones jersey?

Only thing that will appease an outright revolt is heads have to roll.

That is one thing Mara has learned, maybe the only thing he has learned.
I was at game 1
Mike from SI : 10/23/2024 3:50 pm : link
and most of the Giants fans in the stands (as there were many Vikings fans) were already over it--both the season and Daniel Jones.

The gaslighting by Giants state media makes it way worse.
maybe we should get a blimp this time

the plane worked in the late 70s but times have changed. We need a new watershed moment and the blimp wouldn't move too fast. Let it linger there above shit life stadium like an unwanted guest.

People have insinuated that it's way harder to legally get a plane or blimp or whatever in the airspace these days, which seems believable for a number of reasons. A billboard on the NJ Turnpike, however....

when we committed to Jones again for this season. It's been worse than I thought it would be and I was thinking 7-8 wins.

Chris684 : 10/23/2024 4:02 pm : link
But this offseason was a breaking point for me. I would never claim to walk away from the Giants as they are and continue to be an important tradition in my life. But as I navigate this particular period of my life with 3 children ages 3, 5 and 7, there is a lot I've had to juggle over the last few years to maintain my gameday viewing habits as much as possible. I try my best but it's very hard to make time for a passion/hobby and when your wife returns home from a day out she finds you upset and agitated. Not to mention that on top of the Giants sucking, their brand of football has to be the most boring I've seen in years. Losing in general doesn't do that to me as none of the prior seasons in this last decade have annoyed me quite like this one.

The appearance that they saw an urgent problem that needed to be addressed at QB given Jones's performance and injury history, only to ultimately back off that stance and return for this season with a worse QB room than they had last year really set me off.

Once we made the Nabers selection, the rest of the draft was ruined. I also did not enjoy Hard Knocks and thought Schoen came across looking clueless.

The Daboll/Wink thing bothered me more from Daboll's perspective as well. First off, I never believed the issues between he and Wink were ALL Wink's fault. There are some stories about Daboll in prior spots that lead me to believe he can be an asshole. It was hard for me to see that what happened with Wink after the season wasn't a case of Schoen and Daboll teaming up on the guy outside of their inner circle.

When I heard that Schoen had to listen in on Daboll's gameday communications it was a huge red flag. That is not what successful organizations are having to waste time on. Also, when it comes strictly to football, maybe it was a mistake to think Daboll is smarter or has a better handle on his side of the ball than Wink did.

Year 2 got started with obvious missteps in final roster selection i.e. Eric Gray/Jameson Crowder. We got blown out at home to start the season, the punt returner mess, Ezeudu at LT, sticking with an injured Gano for the Jets game in miserable weather, etc. and the kicker is, Daboll has come out this year and repeated at least 3 or 4 of these miscues so it tells me he's stubborn.

Year 3 and going nowhere fast.
I'm numb to it all
Greg from LI : 10/23/2024 4:06 pm : link
That's not going to change until there's a new QB. The Giants are choosing to lose with Jones. I cannot fathom that, but here we are.
Chris - so well said
Sean : 10/23/2024 4:09 pm : link
Everything you outline is factual and concerning. I'm just tired of it all. I don't want to hear any more excuses.

This regime is 1-10 against Dallas and Philly. They are on their way to 0-6 in the division. It is year THREE of the regime.

There is a good pizza joint I go to called Bellisimo.

I was there this afternoon. In line, I was behind a guy in his 70s wearing a NYG hat.

I asked if he was a Giants fan. He said yes, since the 60s.

We exchanged where each of us is from.

I wondered how he felt about the current team. His response, and I'm paraphrasing...

"They are impossible to watch. I stopped watching a few weeks ago after Dallas...I've been going with my wife to Colonial Williamsburg on Sundays to check out the art and get lunch. Better than watching Jones, right?..."

I laughed and said I know all too well... ;)
I didn't know you lived in Williamsburg now

donate to a billboard. Of course I live in Indiana but would it be possible for Eric to take up a donation similar to what he does for the site. It certainly would be illegal to put one up like they did in the 70s. I mean as long as it isn’t slanderous why not? I am so passionate about this that I would pledge $1000.00. Come on, who’s with me?
Nobody needs to rent a blimp, or write nasty letters,
GeofromNJ : 10/23/2024 4:16 pm : link
or call WFAN and scream into a phone. All that's required is for Joe Schoen to draft a quarterback who can see the field, , can throw deep with accuracy, and has a quick release. He does that and all will be well soon enough.

christian : 10/23/2024 4:19 pm : link
I've told this story before. In my 20s I hung out at bar where a bunch of old timer San Francisco Giants watched. As a Yankees fan I couldn't wrap my head around how negative they were. One time a guy effectively said to me "Complaining is all I got. Once I don't have the energy to complain you'll never see me here again."

When the numb nuts show up here and moan the negativity of some fans has killed this site, I laugh. At least we have the energy. Unlike all the positive fans who you'll never dee in this bar again.
I raised our 3 kids to be Giants fans (they're grown now) and
Del Shofner : 10/23/2024 4:21 pm : link
we had some great times together from 1986 or so through 2012 or so. Now, from these 3 kids we have 6 grandkids, the oldest 10 y/o. Guess what? None of the grandkids has ever seen a Giants game because - very understandably - our 3 kids have stopped watching the Giants since the Giants suck so badly. This is brilliant long-term marketing by the Maras who - oh, guess what - they are on their third generation too, just like my family.

It's just sports, but it's kinda sad.
Oh, and for myself - I've stopped watching Giants games -
Del Shofner : 10/23/2024 4:23 pm : link
although I follow them on my phone. If they win, I watch the extended highlights on my computer later that night. If they win two in a row, I'll watch the next game live on TV. But I'm not holding my breath for them to win two in a row....
I haven't gotten to numb
Go Terps : 10/23/2024 4:24 pm : link
I don't suffer the losses on Sundays, but it really bothers me when the playoffs roll around.

It's the years. The Giants are throwing away years of football through errors that we have not only been narrating as they occur, but predicting before they are made.

It's astounding to me that there could be a single fan left imploring us to "let it play out"...

No. That time was over years ago.

These guys love the word "narrative". What narrative? 1-10 against Dallas and Philly. Jones hasn't thrown a TD at MetLife since the 2022 season.

You got it, it's all just a big narrative.

Everyone has had enough, except the fans that go to the games and spend big bucks on concessions and their biggest profit beer. Until fans speak with their wallet why should things change. It is a business. Doing very well. You want to say, why should I eat my tickets. You can still go. Just don’t buy food or beer.

It is probably good to remember that BBI isn't exactly a full representation of the fan opinion.

*less* people are attending, but it's not like saints fans wearing bags over their heads or anything like that.

The problem now i it doesn't matter if less GIANTS fans attend games. The seats get sold on the secondary market and the stadium is full. Ownership isn't embarrassed and doesn't seem to care that games are approaching 50% or more opposing fans some weeks, especially later in the season.
It's not just the losing
floridafan : 10/23/2024 4:51 pm : link
It's not even being competitive.
I am ok with not drafting a QB with the number 1 pick.
To think that Jones would play well and last the whole season was a risk not wortgh taking.
I live overseas, it's great I get the 40 minute version of games, this last game I didn't even do 5 minute highlights.
P.S. anybody want Munich tickets?
I've been a fan since the 60s
Gman11 : 10/23/2024 5:08 pm : link
Unless there were mitigating circumstances I didn't miss watching them no how bad they were.

But, I'm fed up with the noncompetitive play. I canceled my NFL+ subscription. I'll watch the games on national TV, which will probably only be 2. I'll go play pickleball on Sunday afternoon otherwise.
I've checked out (ATTN: MARA)

For the first time ever in 42 years of being a fan, I have checked out. When I first got Sunday Ticket about 28 years ago I think, since then I have not missed ONE SNAP. This year I started listening to radio broadcasts while doing other things, and last game I checked out early and moved on with my life.

I believe in Schoen and the process and I really want to like Dabs, he seems legit. But my god the QB and some of the bone headed stubborn senseless choices they keep making are not something I can follow along with right now.

42 years in and this is where I am. Turning back onto the Yankees.
I’m a NYG fan and an NFL fan
OBJRoyal : 10/23/2024 5:36 pm : link
I set up multiple TVs on Sundays, and I usually start w the Giants one, and multi screen on the other. That usually changes fast, as there is zero emotion watching this Giants team play, and there are always better games being played. Like I said on Sunday, why watch this crap team play when you can watch Stroud vs Love???
One postive
Mike from SI : 10/23/2024 5:51 pm : link
is that I felt no hesitation or guilt betting on the Eagles at -3 last week. I knew what was going to happen and figured I might as well make some money off of it.

I'm not wasting 3 plus hours of my life watching him play QB. It's an awful experience & I'm simply not doing it anymore. If that makes me a 'bad fan', so be it.

It is soul crushing that our QB depth chart is Jones-Lock-DeVito. Like, WTF are we doing? Are we even trying to compete? And if not, why the fuck should I waste my time watching this team? I obviously post on BBI. I listen to 'Inside BBI' & other Giants related podcasts. But wasting a Sunday afternoon watching this shit with Jones? No. Not anymore.

Sure there’s been the occasional outlier in 2016 and 2022, but a vast majority of the time, we have lost hope in this time around late October to mid November.

I've seen a lot of losing seasons. I've never been less interested in them.

Tiki Barber said on his radio show that Daniel Jones is a great kid. He's a leader, he's a grinder, he's first in and last out every day. He does everything you'd want a quarterback to do — except ball.

I don't hate DJ. He's had his chance, it hasn't worked out, it's time for a new guy. But the team is unwatchable these days. Shake me and wake me when it gets watchable again. Until then, there are beautiful fall days to enjoy, chores to do around the house, and Knicks basketball.
If they are "soft tanking"
upnyg : 10/24/2024 9:17 am : link
then I think most would feel better with a different QB, developmental player. I know the argument is that the players would not want that.

But the team is losing life long fans that may decide to sit out in the future.

Tough spot for the fans.
