I didn't know Lasker was the other player who carried Belichick off the field after the 1986 NFC Championship shutout vs. the Skins. I knew Pepper was one...the things that you learn on BBI.
I did know that and I am not sure why. Probably a google search for some reason a couple of years back.
I think we have all seen some of the retro's though on our 1986 Giants so at some point, we probably read about some of the off the beaten path travels of some of our guys.
was one of my favorite players to talk to after the games at autograph alley ...I was pissed when he got cut in 1988 but he did come back with Cards that year and he was still cool as ever ...
He owns a sports bar right not far from my office. I haven't been there in about 10 years, but I recall him walking around to tables and interacting with the patrons. Very friendly guy. link - ( New Window )
But they had a tremendous front four, Brown who later went to the Rams, Alex Karras, Larry Hand, John Henderson, Jerry Rush...
There was a 1966 article I read about a rookie free agent trying to make the Giants going up against Brown in a preseason game...
Code:
8-22-1966 "Roger Brown is a 6-5 300 pound star for the Lions...late in the game Sunday he was opposite Owen Thomas a rookie OG from New Mexico State... Who was signed by the Giants as FA for a modest bonus...if he wins a job his salary will be up to 9000 a year, his wife an exceptional student will be able to attend Columbia law school. Thomas
hopes to complete the semester he needs for a degree in physical education. The horizons for this couple are high..."but I've got to cut the mustard first and make this team". How did he do? "all right I think". I felt good and went right after him. He is so big he uses his arms a lot. He rapped me on the helmet a couple of times with his hands and stuck two fingers into my eye. Your head is suspended in those plastic helmets and they're just like echo chambers. A good rap can make you dizzy. To me, that was a good game, but the coaches and the movies might prove me wrong.". Thomas is 6-00 250. "the legs are everything, you've got to keep the legs moving at all time.". If he doesn't make the Giants Thomas would go back home to Evanston I'll and try to transfer to NW to get my degree...my wishes would keep working she has a civil service job at Great Lakes. We couldn't afford for her to go to law school...he would teach, 5 years maybe make what the Giants would pay him if he made the team"
and then
Pretty sure Lasker's the only member of the Purdue faculty with a Super Bowl ring.

"We are the New York Giants, don't you know we're great!"
Ha Ha....still a great piece of nostalgia to watch.
