this imply that when New orleans Hornets change their name and the Charlotte Bobcats re-adapt the Hornet moniker that he wants to move to the NBA to coach Charlotte?
The Giants won't do it and Rex probably won't even be available... but I would 100% take him.
When Rex was in Baltimore as DC, there was no circus there. As I said, he's not fit to be a HC. He's not fit to be the guy at the podium every week. But as a DC? You bet your ass I'd take him here.
let the Jets down, made a ton of mistakes, and is likely leaving the team WORSE than when he found it; AND that its likely over for him at the other side of Met Life Stadium.
Reality may have finally hit.All the emotions kick in.
nevermind his personality. He's a 3-4 guy and the Giants run a 4-3. So, unless the Giants Front office and coaching staff are willing to completely scrap the players and philosophy they have and create a new unit with awhole lot of new players and clean house with the current players, Rex ain't coming here.
But it's not like it takes 5 years to convert where you have to overhaul the entire personnel.
The Texans went from 29th in points allowed to 4th in literally one year. In their first year playing a 3-4, they went from one of the worst defenses in football to one of the best.
the Texans were loaded at LB, so much so that they
The Texans have a different talent pool than we have, apparently. But without the Giants making a complete change in philosophy with their defense, cutting current players (which could come with taking some cap hits) and drafting and signing new types of personnel in a short period of time, I don't see it working. The Giants defense the past 10 years has been all about sacking the QB and the DEs. This would change that.
Would be an excellent 3-4 OLB. Williams' with his speed would likely thrive in a 3-4 as well. Tuck and Osi both may be gone so we may be in for an end overhaul.
I'm not saying Rex by any means but if we're ever going to bring in a DC with a 3-4 philosophy, now may be the time to do it. I've always been a fan of the 3-4. The best defenses in the NFL are all a version of it.
but if we do change DCs, I don't think we'd be as reluctant to go with a 3-4 guy given that we need a lot of work in the front 7 regardless of what D we run.
He didn't even want to fire Hufnagel years ago. FWIW, I have no problem with them doing it if it would work. Name of the game is good defense, I don't care if it's 4-3 or 3-4. My only contention is them actually changing it re-working the roster. It would take some time.
I don't think a switch to a 3-4 would take as long as some think. We're not great on defense now. We wouldn't even be taking a top half defense and breaking it down. We're bottom 5 in yardage given up this year. Granted points against is better, but that's due to turnovers which we've been very fortunate with this year.
If there was a year to do it. This would be it. A switch to 3-4 DE might be good for someone like Tuck. Canty has plenty of experience playing it. Some guys might not have spots (Austin, Williams), but would you let you really let those guys stop you?
it doesn't really matter that we're not a good defense now. It's about re-working the roster and cutting some current guys to make room for new talent. We're right up against the cap to begin with.
But he's a terrific defensive coach. Even this season as the wheels have come off amidst losing Revis, the Jets are still a tough team to move the ball against.
Canty could also play DE in a 3-4, as he did for years in Dallas. And Shawn Rogers is still on the roster, isn't he? It's a longshot, but if he's healthy next season he could rotate with Joseph at NT.
NO SHIT!! :)It's between him and the blimp. Even after the operation he's huge.
the jets are weird

We haven't done that in 6 years now.

I don't see it happening but with osi and tuck winding down this is no longer a silly question
