We're in a mess at CB...Webster back on sideline

Eric from BBI : Admin : 10/3/2013 1:02 pm
No Webster, Ross, Hosley possibly this week.
That leaves Prince, Thomas and McBride.

Expect to
Arcanum : 10/3/2013 1:05 pm : link
See a lot more zone defense

will hill coming back is big
Tuckrule : 10/3/2013 1:05 pm : link

Hosley sure does get hurt alot.
Dave in Hoboken : 10/3/2013 1:06 pm : link
Gonna be looking at CB
JonC : 10/3/2013 1:08 pm : link
DL, and OL in the draft.
AcidTest : 10/3/2013 1:09 pm : link
it definite that they're all out on Sunday?
If they practice tomorrow, they could still play

Mcbride is the man

Hosley barely played.. how can he be injureD?
Was Michael Coe that bad?
Mondo : 10/3/2013 1:12 pm : link
Hosley couldn't even get through
Exit 172 : 10/3/2013 1:13 pm : link
a 2012 pre-season pick-6 off of Mark Sanchez without getting hurt (turf toe).
Hosley played special teams
Ten Ton Hammer : 10/3/2013 1:13 pm : link
That's where he got hurt.
Eric from BBI : Admin : 10/3/2013 1:15 pm : link
got hurt on a kickoff where the ball wasn't even returned.
Eric from BBI : Admin : 10/3/2013 1:16 pm : link
could have been a big spot for Hosley to finally jump ahead of Ross...but he's hurt again.
Hosley sucks anyway
Greg from LI : 10/3/2013 1:16 pm : link
Clearly at the bottom of the depth chart after seeing McBride acquit himself fairly well against KC.
Pascal4554 : 10/3/2013 1:16 pm : link
I don't remember Webster have a history of missing games because of injury. The least amount of games he has played in a season besides this year was 12 in 2006. Did injuries he played through hamper is play last year?
Eric from BBI : Admin : 10/3/2013 1:18 pm : link
broken hand in September and hamstring issues all year.
cokeduplt : 10/3/2013 1:18 pm : link
mcbride looked good when he was in there
it doesn't matter
G2 : 10/3/2013 1:20 pm : link
the offense cant score anyway.
Ah, enter Greg.
Curtis in VA : 10/3/2013 1:22 pm : link
Like clockwork.
I liked the way McBride played
JonC : 10/3/2013 1:23 pm : link
Ross repeats his mistakes constantly and it is frustrating to watch.
I'm far more sick of Baas and $nee
oipolloi : 10/3/2013 1:28 pm : link
than Holsey and Webster

Corey agreed to a huge reduction in his salary and has made every effort to help the team. His body is just betraying him.

Holsey is slightly built. Injuries are always going to be a potential problem for him. But he has shown some ability. Has a good knack for breaking on the ball at just the right moment. He is also making peanuts.

Giantology : 10/3/2013 1:42 pm : link
So we're gonna ignore LB again in this draft? :D
At this rate,
Randy in CT : 10/3/2013 1:43 pm : link
we might not win on Sunday as was previously guaranteed?
agreed on Webster
islander1 : 10/3/2013 1:44 pm : link
Webster is a Giant through and through. He's earned my respect. He's played hurt before, if he's not playing, it's serious.

Hosley is tiny, and another example of a 2nd/3rd round pick Reese has blown. A third round pick on a 5'9 inch 170 lb corner in a league where small recievers are 6 feet tall.
once again, Curtis, I'll stop when I'm proven wrong
Greg from LI : 10/3/2013 1:44 pm : link
So, since that hasn't happened yet....
I can a defesnsive over-achieve
GMANinDC : 10/3/2013 1:47 pm : link
when they can never stay healthy????
really just
OPBigBlue00 : 10/3/2013 1:48 pm : link
sick of them all that point, bunch of underperforming, injury prone bums. I'm sorry just very down about all the injuries to an already poor squad.
AcidTest : 10/3/2013 1:49 pm : link
was drafted as a slot corner. The hope was that he could add weight. His slight build probably makes him more prone to injuries. If he doesn't work out, it will have NOTHING to do with the fact that he went to Va. Tech. (I say that as a UVA alumni.) It will be because Reese or Ross mad another bad draft pick. He is not the type of corner Seattle would have drafted, and their secondary may be the best in the league.

As far as Webster is concerned, I don't view him as "injury prone" despite last year. His problem may be age and accumulation of injuries from years of playing. He has been a great Giant IMO. My guess is that he still gives us some good games this season.
Is this ?Webster's last year under contract?
yatqb : 10/3/2013 1:51 pm : link
I could see him as one of our cuts for cap reasons. Very good player when healthy, worthless when not, and since he's injured a lot that's a lot of worthless.
Another injury-prone college player...
SB : 10/3/2013 1:54 pm : link
...that is now an injury-prone pro.

THAT should be one of the major criticisms of Reese's draft stragey. Drafting injury-prone guys that "would have been first rounders if they weren't injured."
Will Allen/Peterson : 10/3/2013 1:54 pm : link
Don't forget S, LB, TE, and pretty much every position on the roster. We're in desperate need of dramatic roster turnover in the next couple offseasons.
downinfront : 10/3/2013 1:54 pm : link
is a lock.
Curtis in VA : 10/3/2013 1:54 pm : link
You don't have to stop. You can say whatever you want and be as juvenile (that, by your own admission) about it as you want.

But I definitely want to make sure its pointed out to everyone so that when David Wilson is ripping off 1,000 yard seasons and scoring double digit TD's that there's a nice long line of crow served up for you. And I want to be first in line. =)
JonC : 10/3/2013 1:55 pm : link
Yep, I doubt we'll go LB in the first two rounds.
I know it's too early to talk about it
AnotherGiantsFan : 10/3/2013 2:01 pm : link
But if we're a top 5-10 draft pick, the best thing would be for us to trade down with a team that needs a QB (Browns?) and accumulate quality picks. We have franchise players, now we need to fill the roster out with quality players.
it's an annual rice of passage to quote emmitt smith
Les in TO : 10/3/2013 2:10 pm : link
that we get concentrated injuries at either the cornerback, receiver or defensive tackle position.

BillT : 10/3/2013 2:14 pm : link
This is Webster's last year under contract along with Deihl and Tuck.
PaulN : 10/3/2013 2:24 pm : link
Signing injury prone players just does not work. Time to cut bait with Webster, Diehl, Snee, Baas, Tuck, Rivers, and Andre Brown. Plus the next injury to Terrell Thomas must be the end for him also, I am very leary of planning with Hynoski now also, and would cut bait with him also. We seem to be working with a patchwork team every year. Every year we get killed at cornerback and the offensive line, and we never even start out with any chance for us to have even a fucking decent linebacking corps. The only reason we are respectable at safety is we paid a kings ransom for Rolle. Can not be any worse now, time to clean house this off season and start over. Plus I would not sign Nicks to any long term big contract deal, that is a disaster waiting to happen. The team needs a major shot of heart and balls.
Wonder if they'll bring up that young kid from the practice squad
barens : 10/3/2013 2:27 pm : link
who played well during the preseason, the undrafted FA.
webster is done
GiantsFan84 : 10/3/2013 2:28 pm : link
his body doesn't hold up anymore. he may still be effective when he plays but his body is just breaking down

hosley is proving to be injury prone and has 1 year left before I cut bait.

I don't care much about ross.
Greg from LI : 10/3/2013 2:50 pm : link
To be fair, I cited my legitimate, non-Hokie reasons for disliking the pick at the time of the pick: puny, lousy tackler, gambles and gets burned frequently, injury prone. He's lived up to every one of them.
That's what I never understood from JRs comments on Hosley
AnotherGiantsFan : 10/3/2013 3:03 pm : link
"He doesn't play like he's little" ...uh, yes he does. When you hear a comment like that, you think of a ferocious player that is a sound tackler.
I don't think it matters
ZogZerg : 10/3/2013 3:18 pm : link
As long as we have the same shitty D-coordinater
Marty866b : 10/3/2013 3:24 pm : link
Should have been released after last season when he was wore then awful. Hosley is another Jerry Reese bust. Reese has had a lot of them.
I like McBride......
Simms11 : 10/3/2013 3:31 pm : link
he's shown some nice skills. I don't think DB will be as much of a problem this week as many think, however, depth is my concern. Rolle's played the slot before and Hill has played some CB, last year, I believe.
AGF I think the quote was spurred on by one thing
Greg from LI : 10/3/2013 3:55 pm : link
For such a small player, Hosley really can hit with a pop. That much is true. Problem is that laying guys out isn't as important as making routine tackles, and Hosley's one of the worst in the NFL at that.
I think it's safe to say that Webster is now firmly in the same
Victor in CT : 10/3/2013 4:09 pm : link
"Broken Down Warriors" wing of the Giants roster. Too bad, another proud Giants succumbing to age.

I don't think that Hosley is any great loss. I agree with Greg from LI: Hosley sucks. Small, weak and dumb.
drafting injured players did pay off initially
oipolloi : 10/3/2013 4:44 pm : link
Giants got Tuck in the third round because of his foot injuries at ND. If he had no injury history, Tuck would have been a top 15 pick.

The problem comes when you lock these guys up longterm with big contracts.

Giants have almost a third of their cap space going to guys who are out with injuries, ineffective because of injuries, or have been cut because of injuries.
culloden1745 : 10/4/2013 7:36 am : link
i think websters been on the team for 10 years. not a bad return for a 2nd rounder who was injured. he was one of the better dbs for most of the middle years on the roster.
better then ross or thomas
beginning to think
Dylan fan : 10/4/2013 8:09 am : link
Based on virtually every single BBI post, Tisch & Mara should sell the team; the new owner should fire Reese & the entire coaching staff; cut every last player except Eli & Cruz, since Eli's the franchise QB & Cruz is the only Giant playing well & he just signed; forfeit the rest of the games this year; & start over from scratch next year. The team they put together from free agents & top draft picks in each round can't possibly be worse than the virtual expansion team talent they have now. That should make everyone happy, because it will give everyone even more to bitch about next year.
Super callous but
NoMatter : 10/4/2013 8:18 am : link
As long as Eli makes it out of this season healthy, anything else is acceptable collateral damage.

This season was the perfect storm in payment for two amazing SB runs. Circle the wagons and get ready for 2014.
Significantly weakens the secondary
buljos : 10/4/2013 12:37 pm : link
with Webster, Ross and Hosley out. So Prince, T2 and McBride will just have to get it done. Rolle and Mundy will need to have very good games.
Michael Coe is healthy!
Mondo : 10/4/2013 1:15 pm : link
