Larry Donnell

lecky : 10/28/2013 5:40 pm
I thought he looked good in preseason and wondered why he wasnt getting on the field. However, after last week crossing the middle wide open he just fell down and this week for no reason just ran out of the back of the end zone or would have had a touchdown. I guess I got my answer.

Patience.
I think Pascoe
Andy in Boston : 10/28/2013 5:42 pm : link
could get released.
With Andre Brown coming back....possibly Wilson.
thoughts Eric?
I am
lecky : 10/28/2013 5:46 pm : link
rooting for him. Looks like he has some talent
Would
TMS : 10/28/2013 5:48 pm : link
write him off yet. He did get open both times and caught the ball once. Thats a start.
Yesterday's screw-up
BlackLight : 10/28/2013 5:50 pm : link
reminded of that Lions QB a couple years ago who scrambled out the back of the endzone without even realizing it.
Should be:
TMS : 10/28/2013 5:50 pm : link
"would not write him off YET"
Agree with Eric
Ralph.C : 10/28/2013 5:55 pm : link
Larry has a little "deer in headlights" thing going on. He's probably a little jittery and he's making rookie mistakes; but, the guy can catch, block and given a little time may prove worthy of Zeke Mowatt's number.

I'll never forget Don Meredith's call during a MNF broadcast in 1984:

"I like this Zeke guy!"

I think Donnell will round into form and be a productive tight end. Give him a little time to get comfortable.

I don't see them releasing Pascoe.

Wilson could end up on IR.
pleaserelease Pascoe
spike : 10/28/2013 6:21 pm : link
he wont get picked up.. and he has no role on the team anyore.
Donnell
AcidTest : 10/28/2013 6:34 pm : link
needs a little more seasoning. I liked his toughness during preseason. Anybody can slip (Cruz did IIRC), and he won't run out of the back of the end zone again.

I could also see Wilson going on IR. What a shake up at RB if that happens. Life in the NFL.

japanhead : 10/28/2013 6:39 pm : link
pascoe, almost as much as diehl. can't see him getting released.
Donnell has great size/speed combination.
Crispino : 10/28/2013 6:41 pm : link
Hope he can become a productive guy.
Plus it's good to still have some Grambling

alums in the NFL.
If you release Pascoe
Emil : 10/28/2013 6:51 pm : link
Then who is your in-line blocking TE?
I'll be pissed if Coughlin
mrvax : 10/28/2013 6:52 pm : link
keeps Pasco and releases Donnell.
Who else needs a 285 pound TE to block?
Bill in UT : 10/28/2013 6:59 pm : link
Robinson and Donnell are 265 and 270. Teach them to block. Is Pascoe really a great blocker, or do we just assume that at his size he must be?
BIll
Emil : 10/28/2013 7:03 pm : link
Pascoe is widely regarded as a good blocker. I don't want to keep him long term, but with Donnel being green, and Robinson being hurt and green, I think the Giants are forced to keep Pascoe around for one more year.
Release Donnell AND Pascoe
Bobby Epps : 10/28/2013 7:19 pm : link
and bring back Jake Ballard.
5 RBs ?
Jupiter : 10/28/2013 7:19 pm : link
I don't think they will release a RB YET. I will be surprised if any MD recommends that Wilson can come back soon. Of the 4 other RBs, 3 have been shown to be injury prone (except Cox whom we don't know about yet) and 2 of them had no preseason training.

I think they activate Brown if he is ready and wait until one of the 4 gets hurt, then IR him. Meanwhile, even if Wilson gets an optimistic report (like, "he will be ready in one month"), he should be inactive for a while.

I could be wrong, but then I can come back and tell all of you that the Giants made a mistake and I told you so. Just like half of the people on this board.
if you can't run crisper routes than that
lalalalala : 10/28/2013 7:25 pm : link

he ain't getting on the field, size/tools/whatever notwithstanding.

I'm not even sure what that route was, it was like half a slant combined with a loopy in-cut

that was a really dumb play in the endzone
oipolloi : 10/28/2013 8:04 pm : link
maybe one of the dumbest i have ever seen

but he is also a young guy getting his first taste of playing time. so i think we cut him some slack. I'm glad, though, to see that he is doing enough in practice to get on the field. Bear is a gamer but he really is extremely limited.

Bill in UT : 10/28/2013 8:35 pm : link
definitely not picking on you, but if they're green for a couple of years I wonder if they'll ever ripen. Mostly I'm frustrated by continually hearing that Mike Pope is the best TE coach in the business. We should not have to carry more than 2 TEs. But we've got 4 guys without a complete TE between them. If we take on projects to coach them up, let's coach them up, dammit.

Jay on the Island : 10/28/2013 8:48 pm : link
has made a couple of big mistakes the past two weeks but I see a lot of potential. He moves very well and he seems to consistently get open. I really have high hopes for him.
Has Pope
Doomster : 10/28/2013 9:00 pm : link
fallen off his pedestal?
There is no TE on this roster who is worth a nickel.
Chip : 10/28/2013 9:14 pm : link
Draft someone earlier than the 4th round maybe they will be productive. Robinson just doesn't get it or he would be starting. Find somebody 6'6 265 pounds who can block and catch a few passes like Howard Cross or Zeke Mowatt. Since we don't Jerry Reese needs to find one. we miss Bennett.
We don't miss Bennett
Bill in UT : 10/28/2013 9:29 pm : link
We just think we do because everyone here now sucks

By extension. We miss a good TE.
Our TEs are not good
Jack in MD : 10/28/2013 11:09 pm : link
Myers, Pascoe, Donnell and Robinson might be,collectively, the worst TE roster in the NFL.

Donnell is a plodding player with a very heavy frame. Think he ran a 4.9 forty- not sure if it was a fast track or not.

Forget this patience nonsense. We have seen enough with Brewer,Herzlich, Jernigan, and Robinson to mention a few.

I like the Skins TE Reed- admittedly, he is not the JPP of TEs. He does however run crisp routes, catches the ball and is an able blocker. 3rd round choice who has moved into the starting lineup.
Reese said Robinson
mrvax : 10/28/2013 11:35 pm : link
was the steal of the 2012 draft. The Giants got robbed.
Speaking of projects,
DG : 10/29/2013 12:00 am : link
I like the Colts practice squad TE, Justice Cunningham from South Carolina.
this kid is a good blocker and would be a good 3rd TE - ( New Window )
Patience
lecky : 10/29/2013 8:39 am : link
when you are 2 and 6 is a tough road to take. Players step in right out of college, except on this team. Tell me a player we have had patience with, other than 1st round draft picks, that have worked out for us?
Pascoe wont be released
Tuckrule : 10/29/2013 9:28 am : link
if anything jacobs or wilson to IR.
Bill
Emil : 10/29/2013 9:43 am : link
No worries, don't think you are picking on me. I think you bring up a more than valid point. However, I do think the Giants are stuck with the TE for the time being. Donnel has been getting more playing time as of late I think he can become a weapon that will make it easy for the Giants to say goodbye to Myers. Robinson's injury is the real killer. We know he is raw, but word is he is a good blocker. If he is a good enough blocker the Giants can part ways with Pascoe, but Robinson is hurt and there is a chance they IR him to make room for Brown. I guess we could say "when you have 4 TEs, you really don't have any TEs."
Donnell is going to be the best TE we have
mattlawson : 10/29/2013 12:19 pm : link
In a few weeks. He needs to just climb that ladder a bit more

Mario Manningham
Jake Ballard didn't play his rookie year.
Corey Webster was terrible for his first 3 years.
Justin Tuck had 1 sack in his first two seasons
Will Beatty was picked up as a project.

When posters wonder why young players tend to not see action
JonC : 10/29/2013 12:24 pm : link
think of Donnell and the repeated mental errors on his part. This is what coaches are trying to prevent, and is often why they'll also defer to a veteran like Diehl, right or wrong in the end.
Green as they are, the coaches like the TEs
JonC : 10/29/2013 12:27 pm : link
More likely a RB winds up on IR, to create a spot for AB.
When a young guy is playing behind a solid starter
Bill in UT : 10/29/2013 12:30 pm : link
and you're winning, you can bring him along slowly. When he's playing on a losing team behind a guy who sucks, I'm not sure you still have that luxury.
which is why Donnell's seeing game reps
