Leia is made leader of the Republic after her predecessor's death
Han is a retired veteran of the Republic fleet
Luke hasn't been seen in nearly 30 years
the lead character is Han and Leia's daughter
the other lead is the child of Lando, and either a male or female depending on who is cast
the other lead is a Stormtrooper, also either a male or female depending on who is cast
dialogue for these two characters is very rough in the second draft
Luke has no known offspring
The Empire still exists in the form of a number of loyal systems and are in a state of cold war with the Republic
The Empire is simply referred to as the "Empire," and the Republic is referred to formally only once, as the "Galactic Republic;" no "New" anywhere
There are no Jedi whatsoever, and people still speak as if they are extinct, with Luke being "the last of his kind"
The main antagonists are an older student of the Emperor, and his apprentice
The apprentice takes control of the power dynamic between the two pretty quickly...
The Republic are excavating ruins on a neutral world for a weapon; the world factors into tense negotiations the Empire have had with the Republic, and is referred to as the "Sith Homeworld"
Loredump: In the script, the Sith are a couple thousand years old, founded by an ancestor of Palpatine called Ruin; the apprentice in this film also goes by that name
the ruins within the Sith Homeworld are a control station; the planet itself is the weapon
Luke saves the day at the end, but in a bad way; he has changed
i dont know how to feel about the last line if true
It is very interesting but I can't imagine they have the Jedi virtually extinct still unless they plan to have Luke create a Jedi academy or teach some apprentices in the sequels.
Maybe he can leverage the time travel element in the Star Trek film...
I really hope the trilogy goes heavy into the mythology of the Force
Mike if you dont get it why are you on this thread? There has been little news about the trilogy and there is a lot of time to go I need some fucking details
And go back in time to prevent Hayden Christensen and Jake Loyd from turning one of cinema's best characters into a whiny jackass with mommy issues.
Yeah I still don't know what the hell they were thinking choosing Christensen. At least they seem to be going back to basics and not casting any big name actors in the new films like they did with the previous three with the exception of Ford, Hamill, and Fisher. I really did not like how they cast Liam Neeson, Samuel L Jackson, Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman in episodes 1-3.
I'm not into the series. I clicked the thread to see details about the script leak (i.e. if the director is pissed, who did it, if this is going to cause some sort of re-write, etc.) I was/am interested in how these things happen and how people react.
But I didn't read the white text, and that's coming from someone who isn't a Star Wars fan. I don't get people who spoil movies for themselves.

Yep. Hopefully the next Triology will be great, but I'm more excited for the potential movies in the universe. There is literally no end to the types of movies they could create.
Its an entire trilogy so knowing some details mostly about who the
They weren't kidding about the Expanded Universe being done. Almost none of this fits with any of the story arcs from the EU. In fact, it is a stark contrast, as Luke started a Jedi Academy that was thriving by this point in the story line. He also did have a wife and offspring.
The only part that is maybe borrowed from the EU, is that last line. In one story Luke voluntarily experiments with the Dark Side, I believe to save his nephew (Han and Leia's son) who has been lost to the Dark Side. Luke eventually returned to his Jedi status, but his dabbling with the Dark Side had lasting effects physically and mentally.
As for Han and Leia's daughter being a main character, I find it odd they would not also include her twin brother. I really don't understand the desire to completely stray from the Expanded Universe. Even if you don't want to use any of the story arcs, there is a solid foundation of characters to build on that even a decent number of fringe fans are aware of.
There is a species of beings called the Sith. Their homeworld is Korriban. Korriban itself possessed some natural properties which lead to followers of the Dark Side to set up Dark Side HQ and call themselves the Sith Order
So Sith can refer to a species or a follower of the Dark Side
There is no basis for that in the original trilogy, the prequel trilogy, any background/backstories, etc. For example, Dart Vader is a Sith Lord and he was human. Darth Maul was another and a completely different species.
Do they just strap Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher onto treadmills today and hope they're passable by the time they start filming? Or do midichlorian breakdown over time and come to rest in the abdomen region of the host Jedi?
Supposedly, Mark Hamill has been training for months, even ahead of any official decisions about the casting, to prepare for these films. It is also supposedly one of the reasons he gave up his regular voice work.

My post should say that Korriban had super-natural properties
I don't think straying from the EU is bad and I dont think keeping true to it makes it a good story. It needs to be a good story on its own. You'd obviously love to see some of these characters from the EU but it needs to fit.
For example, it would be dumb to be forced to add another major character that doesnt fit into the story just because in the EU Han and Leia have twins. A great story and great characters are more important than keeping true to the EU
She is a mess. She gained a lot of weight, her face looks older than her age, and she's nuts. This is one person for whom the move away from the Expanded Universe will make sense. In the stories after ROTJ, Leia is still very much an active member in terms of missions and action/adventure.
There are certainly plenty of stories from the EU that sucked. But, there are 2-3 authors who wrote many stories that are outstanding. Even if you don't want to use their storylines, I think it is arrogant and stupid to completely ignore their work. For example, the twins and Luke's son were integral characters. Why just abandon them? Additionally, in my opinion, one of the most interesting new characters is Mara Jade. Noty having her is disappointing.
To know what to expect, I dont sit there trying to imagine how it will play out because it will always be different when you watch it on screen. Only death spoilers piss me off because there is no way around changing that on screen

Maybe she'll be sitting down behind a desk in all her scenes?
I don't think they need to use an EU story, per se. I just am not in favor of completely ignoring it to the point that some really great central characters will be non-existent. I think that is weak and also arrogance on Abrams part, or Disney's part, or both. I don't think that is coming from Lucas, because he made it a point for each EU book, comic, etc. to be approved by LucasFilms and LucasArts.
For years, Lucas has different levels of canon for different types of media. Absolutely official canon was referred to as "G-canon." The EU existed in "C-canon." Basically the EU has a place in the continuity, Lucas reserved the right to take a crap on that if need be.
And while she does have a "nutty" reputation, I've found her to have an appealing "call it like she sees it" personality with a lot of things in recent spots I've seen her in. She seems to like calling show business out on its bullshit, and I like that.
While never "official" every EU story goes through LucasFilm and LucasArts approval. In addition, most of the characters and stories are incorporated into the Star Wars website in a form of Star Wars encyclopedia.
I have seen parts of 3 or 4 of the original Star Trek movie franchise in the last couple of weeks. How are the special effects so terrible? They are not any better than the TV show from more than a decade earlier? I don't know if it's comical or sad or both.
Sound like a lot of BBIers have a bad feeling about this
Leia becomes Queen and Han is a high ranking military official. They are married and have two teen children. A boy and a girl. Unfortunately, their marriage is not in great shape right now. They make humorous snarky comments to each other. It's obvious they still love each other, but the weight of responsibility has taken it's toll on the couple. He looks skinny and about 100 years old and she is 185 lbs. because she eats when she is stressed. Nobody has heard from Luke in a long time. Somewhere an ancient darkness is awakened. The two kids feel it in the force. Leia recognizes their powers and tries to train them with her limited knowledge of the force. The teens make humorous snarky comments to each other and to their parents. They start dabbling in the force and the bad guy feels their presence. Where is Luke when he is needed? This new bad guy gathers an army and attacks. He wants to get his hands on the children. He wants to turn them to the darkside! EVIL LAUGH!! Lots of spaceships and explosions. Boom, bam, bing, blam. Laser guns doo doo doo. The children aren't skilled enough to protect themselves...HELP!!! Suddenly Uncle Luke shows up and kicks major ass. HEROIC MUSIC!! Major battle with much Jedi kick-assery. The kids show they are heroic and have some game. Leia shows that the Queen can still fire a laser weapon. "Get away from my kids!!" Doo doo doo!!. It's an epic battle and the bad guys are repelled. It is not without casualty because a very popular major character dies a brilliant, hero's death protecting his children and the chunky woman he loves. The kids are safe for now, but they must be trained properly. This is not over. Luke takes the teens to the planet where he trained with Yoda. He is putting them through their paces and their skills are improving. They are done training for the day. Luke goes into his hut. He is secretly in constant pain. He looks in the mirror. Yoda and Obi-Won say, "Luke. You must step up their training. They are coming". HEROIC MUSIC!! Roll crazy space credits.
AFTER CREDITS SCENE
A team of doctors and scientists are working on a our fallen hero. He is being fitted with cyborg parts, a hat and a whip. He is alive. He gets up off the table and says "I am ready to serve you, my Lord". EVIL LAUGH!!
it will probably be more like they will show in episode VI when the 2nd Death Star explodes it actually causes a black hole and changes the time line.. then JJ Abrams gets to do whatever he wants..

Fans have been dying to know what direction the trilogy will go myself included...I simply can't wait another 19 months
hence the potential :)
but what about that last line? has this happened in the books or something... reading that makes me think its kind of like Knights of the Old republic
Maybe he got electrocuted like Palpatine which would help explain Mark Hammil's face
sith are a actual species potentially since they have a "home planet"

If they can have a tight story with great characters it absolves them from ignoring some EU shit though, IMO
It wasn't a JJ decision. That was a Lucasfilm-disney move.

The plot sounds kind of weak at them moment. A planet as a weapon? Luke disappearing for 30 years?
