Before I start, I am a big Eli fan and have been since he got here.
But for YEARS now, his play has been uninspired, unsound, and at times downright lazy. If there's one player that's supposed to be "above the Xs and Os," it's the quarterback. Eli used to have a knack for the big play (and I don't mean a play that goes for a lot of yardage necessarily, I mean a play that helps define a game). Yesterday, the interception he threw toward Beckham in the endzone was the game changer. At that point, the Giants were driving down the field, converting third downs, being patient, keeping the Seahawks on their heels...and then Eli kills that drive by throwing a ball to a well-covered receiver. It was all downhill from there for the entire team. The fumble at the end of the game was just awful, too- that's high school stuff right there.
So how does Eli get a pass? Because his "numbers" are better this year? Because his line is average and he has no receivers (even though the line played well enough yesterday and so did his receivers)? Isn't a good quarterback (never mind a great quarterback) supposed to rise above all that?
When Eli was at the top of his game, the whole team believed in him. There was a time when I used to believe that his presence alone helped the team be competitive (certainly there were quotes from defensive players to the effect of "we know if we keep it close, Eli can win it for us in the end"). After seeing him and the offense struggle for so long now, it's clear the defense has no confidence in him whatsoever. Neither does the offense, it seems. And when one unit can't rely on the other, that's how a team crumble. We've seen it for three years now.
I'm getting tired of the excuses for Eli. I hold him as accountable as anyone, if not more so, for the miserable play we have been seeing for years. Is it time for a change? I can't believe I'm even thinking it, but it may be time to bench Eli. Let's see what taking him out of the starting lineup does to the fire in his belly because for a long time now, he's been playing on nothing but fumes. It looks like he's lost the edge.
Fire away...
Please tell me you did and we can get some medical personnel to put you back in the coma since the brain still appears to be dead.
Eli isn't the problem. He's not the same player from 2011 but that's not really on him. Eli regressed after the O regressed.
Keep building this offense back up and ELi will shine.
Eli has improved his play this year over last year's performance. But as a seasoned veteran QB Eli needs to throw the ball away on the that interception and he knows it.
Preston Parker.
they need a running game - can't say too much bad about Eli this year. yeah, he's made a few bad decisions, but those have been aberrations for the most part.
first to work, last to leave, dove in head first when tasked with learning a new Offense after 2 SB wins and 10 years in same offense.
Bench Eli? No need to fire away - this thread is analogous to a self inflicted gunshot wound
Preston Parker.
And the hilarious thing is, he should probably be the second on the depth chart over Randle.
Every time Eli was under center in 2011, I had a feeling he would do something special in a big moment.....he had a big moment in a 17-17 game, and I am not surprised what happened....
Eli is trying to make the plays that he can with the talent around him. Guy is in a new offense, has a depleted OL, rookie RB, and lost his best receiver for the year. He's protecting the ball much better and trying to make plays where he can.
It's one thing to be disappointed in the outcome of the game yesterday, but when the other team racks up 350 rushing yards on our defense, how can Eli be the scapegoat?
I suggest you take a sabbatical as a Bengals fan for a year, to truly understand what it means to have a disappointing QB.
[quote] 15 of them is where the WR caught it in the end zone. Your skill players need to make plays. We dont have enough skilled players. We have ONE right now. [/quote
INteresting...15 of the 17 TDs came in the EZ...that's a telling stat.
The current No 1 RB has 9 NFL games and was to be the No 3 RB, plus they now lost another RB. Jennings also needs to be accounted catching passes. Williams does not.
The pass blocking yesterday was not bad at all and they actually had some holes opened running the ball. The RB right now does not see the field well.
Eli is fine

Ha. A little cruel, but not far off.
Manning is one player who doesn't deserve the blame for this season.
if it makes you feel better my mother was saying that Eli sucks now... glad you have the same thought process of a woman who knows nothing about football... Lost his edge??? WTF?????
Sheer and utter stupidity!

Thanks for saving me on this one...as always a very witty and fitting response!!
Specials are complete garbage with many drives starting inside the 20...
even when the Defense makes a stop we are fair catching punts at the 10yd line most the times...
He is surrounded by shitty ass talent. What do you expect him to do?
You know whats coming next...
You sir are an idiot and if you want to see mediocre quarterbacking look no farther than Russell Wilson...

Just curious. Who we're is receivers that year ? Who was his running backs that year ? Who was his tight end that ? Who was his o lineman that year ? When you answer all of these. You'll see why

Were*
but yesterday was not on Eli or the pick.

And the Randle INT against WAS was a TD, that was a shit call.
Not only that, but he's leading a time that has a defense that he knows will get gashed for the umpteenth time in a row and a special teams unit that likely hasn't been better than its counterpart in years.
The cherry on top was that he was playing on the road at one of the best home-field advantages in football, in the rain, against a defense that was historically good last season, and is 10th in ppg this season and 3rd in ypg this season.
Even generally, who is helping out Eli? Look at our overall WR production this season.
With Cruz going down in Week 4, our most experienced wide receiver is Rueben Randle, who only catches 54% of his targets, and has fewer than 2 yards after the catch per catch and a season-long catch of 27 yards.
Our offense is just as crappy as our D.
I doubt any QB could do better unless he was a running QB that could help the running game.
What????You do know that we have a new offensive coordinator that installed a new QB friendly offense. And you do know that Eli is having one of his best years statistically ever, despite little help from a running game.
Tom Coughlin still thinks this is 1986 and that you win football games by controlling the clock and stubbornly forcing balance on offense.
I love Tom Coughlin and everything he has done for this franchise...but it is time for him to go. We need a new voice. It is a completely different era of football and Coughlin refuses to adapt.

guy is going to set career highs and you post that shit? It's his first INT in 145 passes and want to rip him for it? Shit happens, he threw an INT when he hadn't in so long. You saw how passed he was about it.

Yeah I don't understand that call. Did they say he had to make a football move in the endzone?
Still 145 passes or so without a damn Int. That's amazing coming from a system where it was a fucking INT every damn game. It's amazing the numbers he is putting up with no running game and garbage surrounding him.
