NFT: IPhone dropped in water for a few minutes

mik999999 : 6/24/2015 3:13 am
So yesterday I got home late and needed to throw in a load of laundry before going to bed. I turn it on and walk away, a few minutes later im looking for my phone and realize it may be in the wash. I run out and find it submerged in the water. It wasn't in too long(maybe a few minutes). So I pulled it out, hand dried it then put in a bag of rice to dry it out. I have a few questions for people that may have done this.

I'm not sure if the phone is on or off. My wife tried calling it while I was looking for it(when in washer) so im not sure if that killed it or if it just died. When I pulled it out I tried turning on once or twice and it didnt, so not sure if it was her call, phone died, or just a fail safe that if submerged it turns off.

My question is has anyone here ever done the rice method? Does it work? How long did you leave it in the rice? Any tips suggestions? I'm so pissed off with myself as for all the years I've had a phone I've taken tremendous care of them, never having even a cracked screen(def no water damage) and now this happened. Any advice would be appreciated.

a desicant, but you need to do it immediately.

Left it in rice for 2 days and it turned back on. It's the best method. Be patient let it sit for at least 48 hours before trying to turn it back on.

For most, it has nothing to do with being cheap. They simply don't want their sleek, light and attractive phone to become bulky, heavy and dumpy.

Problem with insurance is the cost. Between the monthly payments over 2 years plus the deductible, it will cost you around $350-$450 for a replacement. You could get a refurb phone for that, which is what they will give you anyway.

Look for instructions online
Yes the rice works but do it for at least 2 weeks before powering on

and it is better if you use an old cigar humidifier box as well. Saved a couple of phones for my family and friends. LOL, people love talking around toilets and running water I guess.
when my wife dropped her iphone in a puddle

we made sure not to touch any buttons, doused it with distilled water to remove any minerals from puddle water, then put it in rice for 5 days. Turned back on and worked fine.
I dont understand how Apple

isnt making water resistant iphones at this point.

But it makes perfect sense. I bought an iphone 6. It is an effectively defective product right out of the box. They made it so pretty and thin AND SLICK that I need a case just to get a sure grip on it. But if I need a case, what was the point of the pretty design? They could have just made it thicker and matte, with a bigger battery.
Its time you buy a Galaxy S5

or later. They are pretty much waterproof out of the box.

Going all the back to Note 2... Mine survived being submerged in the water for about 10 minutes. But I was quick to put it in rice for a whole day and remove the battery... Good Luck...

They could have made it ticker and matte with a bigger battery. But consumers have flocked to thin and slick over practicality, so they went where the market led.

Rumors on the next iphone include water resistance. Of course, water resistance is probably going to save you if you put it in the wash.

While the S5 is water resistant, the S6 is not.

in water and the rice method worked perfectly. I don't know how quickly she tended to it but knowing her, let's just say it probably wasn't immediately.
