Q: Will you be able to go today?

A: Not today, weíre just going day-by-day. Itís getting better.

Q: What is it thatís still bothering you? What do you have to do to get it better?

A: Hip flexor. Really, just the treatment. When it first happened, I wasnít able to lift it, but now I can lift it up. So, itís getting better, I should be practicing soon.

Q: Coach said it happened a couple days before, so you practiced with it a little bit?

A: Actually, it happened the day before, but I just fought through it. Then the next day I did it again, I guess it got a little worse. I had to start getting treatment.

Q: Have you ever dealt with anything like this before?

A: No.

Q: Does that concern you, itís kind of a new thing youíre going through?

A: No, I mean Iíve never been hurt. One time I came back in a week and a half after surgery. I usually heal pretty fast and do pretty well, so Iíll definitely be out there really soon.

Q: Do you find that youíre still able to advance taking the mental reps or do you lose something not being out there?

A: You know, just not being out there, when youíre out there, youíre actually getting better at it than being off not getting the reps. I wouldnít even think of it like that. Once I get back out there, Iím going back to work and getting to where I want to be.

Q: How did you think your first couple days went?

A: I think they went pretty well, pretty well.

Q: What were you working on specifically?

A: Hand placement, my hand placement has gotten a lot better. Just overall technique.

Q: This is obviously a big day with full pads for the linemen. Is it disappointing to be missing?

A: Yeah, definitely disappointing. Any practice you miss, itís disappointing.

Q: You think itís going to be difficult for you to play in the first preseason game?

A: No, I should be fine by then.

Q: You think so?

A: Yeah.

Q: That would be disappointing, Iím sure.

A: Yeah.

Q: Who have you been leaning on to help you out here?

A: The whole offensive line. Everybody has really just been coming together and helped. Iíve made huge progressóitís way different than when I came in for OTAs. Just made progress and looking to continue making more progress.

Q: Where do you see that progress? What part of it, in particular?

A: Just getting the plays down and getting better at certain techniques, certain blocks.

Q: Have you been able to talk to Will Beatty?

A: Yeah, Iíve talked to him.

Q: What advice has he given you?

A: Itís just embracing the grind, keep grinding and itís going to get better. Things are going to slow down and stuff like that.

Q: Does he serve as a player/coach to you?

A: All the players help me. Even a second-year guy like [Weston] Richburgóheís helped me a tremendous amount. Everybody is just there and helping each other.

Q: Whatís it been like going up against some of the guys? Much more of a full speed than youíve seen before.

A: Itís good work, itís good work. Everybody hereóitís a different level, everybody here is legit. And you get good work from anybody that they put out there, so itís going pretty good.

Q: Is the speed something youíve seen before or is it a different level?

A: You know, itís good. I mean, itís not crazy like some people say. Itís definitely even slowed down a little bit as Iíve been here.

If you're injured and can't play in the game, that's disappointing?

Anyway, he seems like a really good guy.

Seriously, you can see why these guys start to get aloof with the media. 20 questions about a sore hip flexor

Good for whoever finally asked him about the other linemen, that's interesting to hear
I like hearing about him learning proper hand placement

pre-draft you would have thought that poor hand placement was indelible and as integral as not having a right forefinger. I think lousy technique is overstated if it causes a player to drop because it's sort of curable.

When your that big in high school and college no coach teaches you proper technique, they just tell you to go out and overpower the guy in front of you and it is easier at those levels to just over power someone....

Not surprising his technique was lacking....

When i was reffing high school games i cringed at watching some of these bigger kids, because they never used any technique when tackling or blocking...
he's a big, big man

and that flexor is way down deep; for jeeper's sake, let him heal completely so it doesn't become a season-long and then chronic injury. Said he couldn't lift his leg after he tried to work through the injury...going back to one of the poster's grade 1/2/3 sprains, sounds like it's on the cusp between a 1 and 2...let him heal

Hmmmm, never been hurt before, but I usually heal pretty fast. How can that be?

Please don't bring him back too fast.

Hip flexors are really delicate, and unlike other muscle injuries they're caused by overuse more than by twisting, overextension or impact.
