Q: So what made the Giants the right fit for you?

A: The organization. Plus, I know a lot of people that were already on the team. Everything I ever heard about the organization has been positive, so I wanted to see what it was like.

Q: Was Jon Beason a lot of influence on that?

A: Yes, yes. Beason is a very outspoken guy, and he pretty much says what’s on his mind, and he tells you the truth. Me knowing that he was here was part of the fit that I wanted to see.

Q: He said that you could make an immediate impact. Do you feel like you will come in here and do that?

A: I think every player can make an immediate impact. What your impact is, is depending on you, and depending on the coaching staff and what they expect from you.

Q: How much have you been doing? Guys have been in training camp, so what have you been doing this offseason?

A: Working out. Doing basically the same thing they’ve been doing, just not with the pads and the coaches going over details.

Q: Did you get antsy waiting for a call, and how much interest have you had?

A: I had a little bit of interest. I had a couple teams call early, but my agent and I thought it wasn’t a good fit, so--.

Q: How do you think you fit with this defensive system?

A: I don’t know yet, I don’t know yet. I’m physical. The great defenses of the Giants have always been physical, so I’m thinking it may be a great fit.

Q: That physicality has gotten you fined a couple times here and there.

A: How did I know that was coming up? Can we get them out the way now? Go ahead, so we can leave them alone for the rest of the year.

Q: Do you need to adjust to the way the game is played or do you need to tone it back?

A: I think every player you ever asked will say, you play your game the way you play your game. Do you play within the rules? Yes. When they make new rules, do you have to adjust a little bit? Yes. So I’m going to play my game the way I play my game, but I’m also going to respect the rules.

Q: Coach mentioned that you had a toe issue. Is that behind you now, or do you have to do anything special as far as maintenance, orthotics or anything like that?

A: I’m older in the game now. It’s all a part of taking care of your body, just like anything else. You’re going to have to take care of it, and that’s what it is. I’m just going to take care of my body and continue to do the things I’ve been doing.

Q: Aside from just having hard hitting defenses of the Giants of past, what makes this system perfect for you?

A: The coaches. The coaches, so far, they’ve been very hands-on. They’ve been helping me with everything. The players have been very helpful. I’m just thinking a good chemistry and all will be a great thing for the defense.

Q: There’s not a lot of experience in the secondary. How much do you think your experience will make a difference?

A: We’ll see. I can’t answer that question until we actually get in there together and we actually play a game together.

Q: How quickly can you get up to speed on this defense?

A: We’ll see. That’s something that’s soon to be told.

Q: Were you surprised you jumped in there pretty quick yesterday?

A: I was surprised.

Q: You guys are playing the Jets in a couple weeks. Did you ever have contact with Brandon Marshall in the wake of those comments with the back and forth between you guys a while back?

A: Listen man, that’s in the past. I’m not one of those guys to hold grudges, I let things go. That’s in the past. He might be holding that grudge, I don’t know, I haven’t spoken to him. But no, I’m not. I forgot about that a long time ago.

Q: Jon Beason mentioned that since you’ve been in the game so long, this stuff will come back to you but the language is probably the biggest barrier for you. What do you plan to do to expedite it? Is it a matter of studying or is there something else you can do to expedite it?

A: No, it’s just like being a DB. You have to forget everything that you did, and learn it all over again. When it comes to verbiage and terminology, you just pretty much forget everything that you were taught and learn whatever the new team’s verbiage is.

Q: How much have you seen of Landon Collins?

A: I don’t know, I haven’t seen much. He’s a big guy, though. When I saw him from film and watching him in college, I didn’t think he was that big, but he’s a big guy.

Q: From what you’ve seen on film, do you think your game blends with his?

A: You tell me. What do you think?

Q: Do you feel that you’re coming here with a chip on your shoulder and have something to prove?

A: I feel like I’m coming to be a New York Giant. I feel like I’m coming to be an addition to the team. I feel like I’m coming to play football, and I’m coming to help us win.
And it gets worse

He's just awful. Woe is this team.
I have mixed feelings about the signing
Stupendamatic : 8/17/2015 5:39 pm : link
I went from wanting us the draft him out of Miami. to him being one of my most disliked players due to his habit of leading with his helmet.

Now I'm rooting for the guy :)
Why is this worse

than Feces Brown and his ilk? Honestly -- they just need warm bodies in the secondary.

He sounds like he's learned from the past and knows this is a great opportunity for a FA DB on the backside of his career. But more important is, here's a player that fills a need who has literally played on a Pro Bowl level. We could have done worse.
He was a starting caliber safety
Reale01 : 8/17/2015 6:08 pm : link
The only man on our team that can say that. I hope he still is and that he will be able to play within the rules.
He's as good as it gets at this point in the year,
CT Charlie : 8/17/2015 6:36 pm : link
and if Beason gives him the green light then who are we to argue? He'll still have attitude, but perhaps he'll back it up with smarts rather than than ego hits.
Idk..

I'm all for bringing some nastiness to this defense and if he's going to help do that, It's all good.
He cannot be any worse
RetroJint : 8/17/2015 7:03 pm : link
Than last year's crew & that includes Rolle. Coach has to impress upon him that personal fouls will signal the end of paychecks. This sometimes works.

Yup. +1
When was

The last time we had a guy with this sort of disposition ? I love it, give me 10 more, he sounds angry from the way he answered those horrible questions. Chip on his shoulder ? Sure, give me 10 more with that same attitude.
Yes
djm : 8/17/2015 11:21 pm : link
Id much rather have absolutely nothing at the position over an older vet that even if he is terrible, at least played the position and could possibly provide something. Clearly nothing is better than the alternative

Wtf

Serious or sarcastic?
I went into the interview expecting to be disappointed by his answers.

I thought he was well spoken. Fairly decent interview IMO
Not a big Meriweather fan

But I root for the jersey, so if he can help us out, I'm all for it.
All I know living in New England and seeing him as a Patriot
Blue21 : 8/18/2015 6:44 am : link
he was very very good. I'll take my chances with him. If he can bring some of it to the Giants then great. We need it.
