I don't think I was disrespectful. The single worst thing I said was I thought he was a mediocre player. Relationships are a two way street. When one goes wrong both parties are usually culpable. Is that so hard to hear? You guys want access. I get it. I doubt the guy is so thin skinned he's going into tears right now.

Haha what? I'm the one acting like a 10 year old?

You came into this thread and got called out for essentially telling everyone else they're an idiot if they thought it was Kehl in the other thread.

And then you respond with Well, I was wrong, but hey, Kehl, guess what, you suck, and who are you to question Coughlin?.

Alas! I want to thank you, honorable gentleman, for elucidating on the errors of my ways; for if only I had structured my post in a less colloquial fashion, only then would I have the honor of conveying my message in an fashion acceptable to the great Torrag's ear. O! What an egregious mistake I have made! After all, this is no place for the casual banter that the bourgeois and plebeians sully the streets with! For this is BIG BLUE INTERACTIVE, the bastion of formality!

Get the fuck outta here with that shit. I think I got the essence of your message down pretty much pat DUDE, considering every single other poster is calling you out for being a mega-douchebag.

So maybe you should take a look at your posts and try to see how they came off as utterly dickish instead of trying to triple-down and making yourself look like an even bigger dickhead.

Wait, it's a message board DUDE? I thought that there was some sort of negative or downside for using casual terminology to address others, like DUDE - but that doesn't seem to jive with how message boards tend to operate, BRO.

And there's nothing arbitrary about ron mexico's post

Just to back up a little, I didn't mean to come off so strong. But when you say things like:
Quote:
So it begs the question why should anything you have to say be taken seriously on the subject of Tom and his ability to interact with players? If you had performed better maybe it would have been reflected in your relationship with him.

I don't know what kind of reaction you expected.

The answer is obvious - maybe he should be taken seriously because he played for him for a couple years? Trying to contend that his experiences are irrelevant and useless because of his performance on the field is asinine.

He's speaking from his own personal experiences, and if you want to add in the conjecture that you don't want to take it seriously because you believe it was a product of his on field performance, that's your perogative.

But he doesn't need to prove anything to you. Kehl is speaking about his experiences, and you can draw whatever conclusions from it you want.

Coughlin has been known as a hardass throughout his career, granted moreso at some points during his career than others, but you don't need to shit on a player who's doing a cool thing by coming to the board by telling him "well you sucked, and maybe that's why Coughlin didn't like you, so why do your experiences even matter?"

It's such an over the top reflexive defensive mechanism for a man you've never met.

And it's pretty obvious that there were other plays who didn't always like Coughlin, including those on the Superbowl teams (Strahan...).

So instead of just calling you names and being an asshole back, I wanted to at least point out where I was coming from with my characterization of your tone/comments.
Bryan, I've got to add to those

When my son was a lot younger he asked tons of questions, about players on all his favorite teams. When a question arose about whether or not a guy "sucked" I'd tell him it was relative. Maybe the guy wasnt a top-level player, but what if YOU made it to the NFL? Would you suck?

I'm glad that today he realizes just what level pro athletes are at, and that none of them simply "suck."

'Suck' is inherently relative - nobody thinks they can outplay any of these guys, but when the compared population is professional players, there will be some bad ones.

That's not to defend some of the ridiculous reactions seen on the forum. To Greg's point, I've played pickup hockey with guys who got cut from junior teams and they were unbelievable - definitely gave me a better appreciation of how elite even the bad players in the professional leagues are.

Like Tanner Glass?

I didn't get involved in the other thread and I disagree with your take on Coughlin being overrated, but I do concede that from the outside it does appear that he is the type of boss most of us would not enjoy working for in our own occupations. It doesn't surprise me in the least that some of his players may not be the biggest fan of the guy personally. You probably have a lot of company among his former players, but I think your feelings about him personally have an impact on your perception of him as a coach. Curious as to why you are so down on Spags as a coach?

It's cool you would post here and address this.

I have NO IDEA what he is like nowadays...all I can speak for is 2008, 2010-11. (His results in '12 in NO speak for themselves)

But in STL he just lost the locker room. Absolutely a great Defensive mind. No doubt about it. He just has Napoleon complex to the Max!! Almost a bit resentful of guys in NFL...as if he was mad they made it, and he didn't. Some of the things he said to people - I mean I've seen him cuss out players as if they were a dog. I'm serious. Most NFL coaches will cuss you out. But Spagz was in a league of his own.

Because of that, and poor personnel decisions, STL was a total disaster.

thanks for joining BBI and confirming it's you. Over the years we've speculated that we had on Tyrone Wheatley for a little while.

I'm curious about a couple of things during your Giants tenure-

- How much did Plaxico shooting himself distract the team/took the air out of them because up to that point, the Giants were the best team in the NFL in 2008 and after that had to sputter to the finish.

- And you mentioned about players messing with substances. There were rumblings that the Giants secondary (in particular) enjoyed weed a little too much. So much so that even O'Hara pretty much called them out about it in the press to act like professionals. Did you see that as well?

That Plaxico thing totally derailed our season. I mean - 11-1 before he gets arrested....go 1-4 after.

I don't know how much was mental, or just messed with the rhythm of our team. On O - they just started stacking the box, and shut down our run game. On D - we were banged up already, and matched up poorly against Philly who beat us 2 out of 3 that year. So it was many things - but I think we might have made a run if Plax never did that.
Who was your LB coach with the Rams?

Lots of Coaches are dicks, and many players you don't want to spend 5 minutes with. But there are also studs mixed in too.

NY - my fav coach was either Pope or Waffle. Fav teammates: T2, Sintim, Deossie, Chase, Feagles, Tynes, RW, Sam Madison, O Hara, Toomer, Boss.

STL - Lopez and Curtis fav coaches. Players: Laurinaitis, Long, OJ, Dahl, Chamberlain were all studs.

WAS - I really liked Shanahan and Haslett. London Fletcher is head and shoulders above any teammate...and its not even close. Probably the best pro I was ever around. Alexander, Doughty are both close behind.

I actually saw BKehl play in college since I went to UNLV and we always played and got whipped by BYU.

I always thought that he was productive enough when he got on the field. He was at least as productive as Reggie Torbor, Danny Clark, Carlos Emmons, and the cast of about 100 linebackers that seems to be constantly evolving yearly.

Do I think TC is a tough guy to work for? Yeah probably. For some reason, he and Kehl didn't seem to get along. It does seem like sour grapes that TC gets criticized and called overrated after Kehl's career is over. But, the gap between the 53rd guy on the roster and the perennial pro bowler probably isn't that great from a talent perspective. So I can see how it might come down to personality conflict from time to time, and so I gotta ask:

When you weren't being played, did you ever go in to see either Spags or TC and be like, "Listen, I'm producing on the field, why aren't I being played?" If so, what was their reaction?

As a rookie, I was too scared to do anything like that. 2nd year - I was stuck behind Boley. They paid him, and he was good at making plays here and there, so I knew there wasn't much I could do. Then they cut me year 3.
Is Coughlin one of the coaches who cusses players?

They never said a word - they just benched me. I started vs SF and Pitt...that pic someone posted of the INT, the guy rolled me up and tore a ligament in my foot, but I played the rest of the game. After the MRI, they didn't think I would be able to play the next week. So they put Chase in for me at Will in practice. I ended up dressing and playing Spec teams...but no D. And then they just left it like that for the rest of the year. Never even said a word to me about it.

Hey Bryan. Thanks for stopping by. Hope you will become a fixture on BBI. Random question for you… Most of us on BBI would love to see the 1980s throwback uniforms with "Giants" on the side of the helmet, but obviously the team has not come through for us yet. In your experience, did the players ever ask for these throwbacks to be worn, and/or do you think we will be wearing those uniforms anytime soon? While we are on the subject, how good are Skiba and the Giants equipment staff compared to St. Louis, Washington and Kansas City, and for what reasons (any examples)?

Guys asked for different things all the time. TC is hard to move. I think they got torched by Dallas in those red unis in 07...so TC put a ban on them or something. lol.

Yeah, Skiba is the best. That guy cares more about his role than most players on the team!! lol
Oh yeah... I actually do have a few things to add...
T-Bone : 10/23/2015 1:35 pm : link
Someone mentioned about hearing how Rams players hated Spags back when he was in ST. Louis. I also remember reading an article on here about how he treated both players and personnel while he was the HC there. I specifically remember him supposedly cussing out the equipment manager pretty bad and that guy had been with the organization for a long time. I think someone posted the article either right before or right after we hired him back here earlier this year.

Also, just wanted to commend you for keeping your cool and keeping a good spirit about you Bryan, despite a lot of the stuff said about and to you during your visit here. Very big of you.

Was it just a schematic issue or was it personal?

It just depends on who the player was. Example - he loves Craig Dahl. Has taken him everywhere. Dahl loves Spagz. Now, go find James Butler and ask him about Spagz and you will get a MUCH different answer.

You say Coughlin is an excellent coach and overrated. It's your opinion of course, but let me draw a parallel here. You laud Mike Shanahan as a brilliant Offensive mind and an excellent HC. Yet, after Elway and Davis left the Broncos I believe he won 1, perhaps 2 playoff games in roughly 15 other seasons. I believe he's living off the reputation that Elway and Davis helped him create and did very little subsequent to their departures.

If anything, he's extremely overrated and his attempt at trying to distance himself from RG III from something he as the HC was almost totally responsible for by indirectly knocking RG III with his statement that Kirk Cousins is capable of winning a SB, which on its face is beyond absurd..

You praise Kyle and the work he's doing in Atlanta as if Atlanta wasn't putting up impressive offensive numbers (with Ryan, White, Jones, Gonzales et al through the years) before he arrived. Offense has not been a problem since Ryan became the franchise, Defense has been..

Regardless, welcome aboard
