WR Hakeem Nicks

November 23, 2015

Q: What is it like being back?

A: It feels good. Feels good to be back in the building, definitely feels good to be back in the Giants uniform. Just want to continue to make plays and be a great football player and a great team player.

Q: It is a different playbook from what you remember. How do you think you’ll be able to contribute on a short-term basis knowing you have a lot of stuff to learn?

A: I came in last week and got a head start, but whatever they need me to do, I’m sure they’ll sprinkle me in and get acclimated. But whatever the coaches need me to do, whatever they need me here to be, that’s what I will be.

Q: How much does it help that you and Eli know each other like the back of your hand?

A: That helps a lot. That helps a lot, that chemistry. We’re definitely looking forward to it. Glad to be back in this position again, playing with Eli again. I look forward to everything that is about to come.

Q: When you left here, did you think there was ever a chance that you’d be back?

A: In my heart. I felt like this is where I wanted to be in my heart. Business is business and it’s going to play out the way it’s going to play out, and fortunately I was blessed enough to be back in this position.

Q: How tough was it to sit out for the first three months of this year?

A: That competitive job and I just had to stay in it. Came up with a little that my agent made sure I got off the couch every week by going to see different teams. So that’s kind of how I got every week started, I’d watch Sunday football, then go see a team, get a little workout in and just keep it going throughout the week. I was just making sure I was keeping up with my body and when the time came, I wouldn’t be slacking and I would fit right in.

Q: What do you feel you can bring to this team walking in as late as right now?

A: Confidence level. It’s a new season, we got a six-game schedule. I’ve seen this before and we’re right where we need to be in this division. Just look forward to what’s at hand.

Q: How do you feel?

A: I feel great.
Well

I for one am glad to have this guy back in blue!
Couldn't be rooting harder for someone

I liked how he says he's seen this before, haha

It does not
BigBlueJ : 11/23/2015 1:16 pm : link
Seem if he was doing any type of hard off season program to stay in shape.
I have zero expectations for him to do well
GMenLTS : 11/23/2015 1:17 pm : link
but I'd be lying if I didn't say I'm hoping like hell that Hakeem becomes one of the feature stories on America's Game.

Whats the over/under and when he gets injured?
Scyber : 11/23/2015 1:18 pm : link
I'm guessing 7 days.
I hope he makes it back
SGMen : 11/23/2015 1:18 pm : link
Would love to see him be a 1,000 yard guy again.

yea, really. I don't care for the comment that his agent was making him get off the couch for that once a week workout.
Hopefully he and JPP can inspire a Don't Take It for Granted

meme in the younger players
- don't expect to be tied for 1st this late in the season EVERY year.
- don't assume you still have many playing years ahead of you.

Carpe Diem!
I'm not sure..
FatMan in Charlotte : 11/23/2015 1:38 pm : link
how much work he needed to put in to stay in shape.

His speed is compromised due to injury, so it is probably more important he learns the plays and where to find the weak part of the defenses.
Pulling the 88 out from
larryflower37 : 11/23/2015 1:38 pm : link
the back of the closet for the Washington game.

He could always catch the back shoulder pass.
How great would it be
Jim in Forest Hills : 11/23/2015 1:42 pm : link
to see 88 make some big plays. Rooting for him big time.
Good luck Hakeem...
Torrag : 11/23/2015 1:46 pm : link
...hope he makes good and helps us win. That said it's all about his wheels. We'll know shortly if he's healthy enough to contribute in a meaningful way.

GAH?
strange interview
grizz299 : 11/23/2015 2:40 pm : link
didn't touch on anything that mattered...and this is an issue with lots of issues (sic). Is he fundamentally compromised...what's different now than his time with INdy....has he been measured in the forty and how does his time compare with his rookie year...there were charges of shirking his last year , has that been discussed with Coughlin....there were reports that he favored Luck how's that play now....What happened at Indy that he was cut and what's different now?
So much about this guy that needs answers,
if nicks dresses
DavidinBMNY : 11/23/2015 3:06 pm : link
He's the 4th WR. How many targets are you expecting? I'm thinking 3.
Maybe playing opposite of OBJ opens things up for him
Greg from LI : 11/23/2015 3:08 pm : link
Letting him perform well despite his physical limitations. Hey, a guy can dream.
Nicks
PaulN : 11/23/2015 3:15 pm : link
Is in shape, he has to be! He wanted to land on a team, so he was ready at the start of the season, and I'm certain he has a maintenance program to keep in shape, the athlete of today to worlds ahead of the athlete from the past in staying in shape, the skill set is what cannot be practiced unless you are on a team, and that is where Nicks will be starting from, so he will be spoon fed I'm sure, but if the Giants signed him, then he is in shape! LOL. The worry starts when this training staff and medical staff get a hold of him, then he has a huge problem.
Bringing Nicks Back
jpennyva : 11/23/2015 3:16 pm : link
feels so nostalgic to me, especially since he was on the last SB team. It is ridiculous, I know, and based in nothing but hope, but having him, Eli and Coughlin together again feels like some serious deja vu (as well as losing to an undefeated Patriots team in a regular season, hard-fought game).

I remain hopeful yet cautiously optimistic.
Nicks made a bad choice of team last year.
Reese's Pieces : 11/23/2015 3:27 pm : link
Luck never threw him the ball. T.Y. Hilton was Luck's go to guy. he almost always looked for him first. And second was Reggie Wayne. Nick played in all 16 games but was only targeted 70 times versus 130 for TY and 116 for Wayne.

Maybe Luck didn't throw to Nicks because he wasn't open much or because Nicks didn't do much with the balls that were thrown to him, but he was always looking for Hilton first.

This sums it up perfectly for me.
Zero is pretty low.
Randy in CT : 11/23/2015 4:15 pm : link
I can see him contributing.
Sounds
area junc : 11/23/2015 4:15 pm : link
like hes working the slot. Different role this time
He's never going to be dominant again. He's never going to be
CT Charlie : 11/23/2015 5:04 pm : link
fast again. He probably can't get off the ground very high, compared to the old days.

But if he can get to the right place and catch the ball dependably, we've got a guy who can move the chains. If he's healthy, he might even be unstoppable in the slot.
He never has to do another thing
arniefez : 11/23/2015 5:16 pm : link
to be an all time Giant. Glad he's back. Super Bowl 46 and the whole playoff run that year will always be Cruz & Nicks games.
I think we are going to be pleasantly purprised
UberAlias : 11/23/2015 5:31 pm : link
With this one.
I'll put it to you this way
UberAlias : 11/23/2015 5:35 pm : link
I'm more optimistic about what we will get from Nicks than I was about Cruz when we thought he was returning.
Hate to be a downer
5BowlsSoon : 11/23/2015 5:46 pm : link
But I'm not expecting much at all. I doubt he gets any separation.
let's wait to see him
Kevin(formerly Tiki4Six) : 11/23/2015 9:01 pm : link
on the field first....

90% of this board said the same thing about JPP. I forgot what experts you all are.
Surprised New England didn't call him
Giants2012 : 11/23/2015 9:04 pm : link
He's a good sized receiver with good hands and could just run slants or sit in a vacant area
Watching Larry Fitzgerald yesterday,
Reese's Pieces : 11/23/2015 9:53 pm : link
he's 32 and coming off an MCL tear last year and playing through an ankle this year must have lost a lot of the speed and agility he had ten years ago.

He's having a career season. Always hope.
