Porzingis certainly didn't have any conditioning issues late in Wednesday's game against Philadelphia.
With five minutes to play in the fourth quarter, he gathered the ball at the top of the key, pumped-faked, took two dribbles to get around Nerlens Noel and threw down an uncontested dunk. You can watch the play here.
The dunk was Porzingis’ final basket of the night, leaving him with 17 points to go along with 10 rebounds. He has nine double-doubles in 19 games -- the sixth-highest total in the NBA.
“He’s been pretty good,” Knicks guard Jose Calderon said with a grin.

Anthony, they could absolutely make the Finals with the roster they have. They have the assets to do it as well. I love Brad Stevens and what he's done to coach these kids up.
so they're just magically adding him to their roster without giving up anyone important from it?
Didn't say that. But they have 4 first round picks in the upcoming draft, including Brooklyn's unprotected lottery. You think the Knicks wouldn't think hard on that?
No I dont, i dont think Phil regresses more and starts trading pieces off to ge tmore draft picks...
He has his future star and current star and now he is going to build around them through free agency...
Melo's contract doe snot hurt their flexibility there is really no reason for the Knicks to trade him..
the Brooklyn pick is an exciting asset but most of their other incoming picks have all kinds of protections on them which decrease their value - as we saw this past draft when Charlotte wouldn't accept their trade-up offer. Boston's roster has some nice players but it's lacking star potential. Their best asset is the coach. Regardless, Melo has a no-trade and there's very little chance he waives it to go to Boston.
They started regressing last year when they traded Knight away which was Dumb...i still dont understand that trade...
West has 6 teams over .500
Biggest surprises:
Rookie class has done quite well. Towns, Okafor, Mudiday, Porzingis have been better than expected.
Rick Carlisle remains the 2nd best coach in the NBA. No way Dallas should be this good.
Curry is in another stratosphere.
Paul George is back and dominating.
Drummond may have claimed best center in NBA.
Biggest disappointments:
Pelicans have been a disaster
Rockets/Wizards/Bucks have taken major step backs
Rose has been awful
Harden, Davis, Lillard are putting up points, but not good percentages for them.
Minnesota hasnt taken the step they were suppose too.
We all slept on Paul George. Guy is a top 10 player. For real -- not the top 10 that has 25 players.
I havent seen Mudiay much, but the stats say that he has been dreadful. Historically bad shooting and a ton of TOs. Im not sure I've ever seen a Win Share rate as low as Mudiay's -.119 (even Bennett was essentially a 0 WS48 guy). Worst WS48 guy last year with 800+ minutes (10/game) was Stephenson at -.026.
Not sure why you're down on Minny. 8-10 is pretty good when your three best players are 20 years old. I like their trajectory. And I think they're really smart to have guys like KG, Martin, and Miller there to mold these kids. Vets can really help kids learn the way, and the teams like Philly to go vet free I think are making a HUGE mistake in terms of player development.
Sean Kennedy of Excel. He doesnt have any current, relevant clients. Wouldnt surprise me if HW switched. But in the same 6 agent firm is Goldfeder (Afflalo, Isaiah Thomas, Blake...), Jeff Schwartz (Tyson Chandler, Joe Johnson, Pierce, Kemba, Barnes, AlJeff, Kidd (shouldnt be allowed IMO), MCW, Drummond, Jennings, Love...), and the agents for Clarkson & Middleton.

Ive seen Mudiday play a few times and came across impressed. He has game and belongs in the league. Denver has been ravished by injuries. They arent very good, so he forces more than he probably should. But I think he can be pretty good. And plus he is only 19.

long before this Robin Lopez contract starts to be called really bad? 5/6 in 22 minutes last night.
can't go by the box score only with Lopez
True, but he isn't even cracking 20 MPG some games. That's concerning.
The minute he signed it. But its not atrocious and he definitely serves a purpose. Big guys all are over paid. They could move it if they had to.
Lopez played well last night.
Its weird. The big thing with Lopez is the word that he's injured. We have no idea what it is, but he says it is "nothing serious". But that was like a month ago, so who knows.
He is driving a lot of good defensive outcomes. But he's been worse than any prior season. If he continues to play like this thru 50 games, contract looks bad. For the time being, I want to believe it is just adjustment/role definition issues or injury or fluke. Injury aside, he game shouldnt fall off a cliff at age 28, especially when he has had success in multiple cities.
He usually goes small with lance thomas or comes back with Seraphin...

Im not down on him, though guys with broken, ineffective shots often never resolve that. However, my point was more that I think listing him with the 3 bigs as impressing or being better than expected I think is an odd. IMO he hasnt been one of the 4 standout rookies. That's all. Not a statement about his potential at all.

Fisher I think doesnt love lesser-athletes at the big. KOQ isnt getting run either.
Re Lopez, he's a role player. There is always a risk in paying role players real money. Some of his struggles on offense IMO have to do with him not playing an appropriate role. With KP more on the perimeter, Melo and Afflalo doing mostly jumpers, Lopez is pressing a little too much to be the post scorer. Trying too many fancy moves down low, and too many runners.
and now Fisher is going small...
They are posting him up in the middle of the triangle and expecting him to hit cutters or find the open shooter and that is not his game..
he should be on the weakside....
The defensive +/- for him isn't all that great.

His AST% is way up from past years so at the very least he's doing more with these increased opportunities.
So yeah, Lopez was a great value to the Blazers at 6 M per. He's less great now but he's still a valuable player who does all the little things.
My main beef with him is that when he's in the post there are times when he's supposed to shoot. I hate it when that happens.
Check out this sweet pass from Porzingis to Lopez, though. - ( New Window )

Right. I think the answer is a lot more likely to be that we need to stop using him that way, rather than expect it to start working. Which means that KP or Melo needs to start working more out of the post, and/or we need to admit that we dont have the personnel to run an offense through a post/high post big.
He wasnt maxed. I think his contract will basically be role player level again next season. The cap growth is ridiculous.
He's the kind of player I usually think "meh, great college player but not athletic enough". But the more I watch him the more I like him.

I feel like those guys work out more often than not.
That is decidedly not star money -- max is 25%, 30%, or 35% of the cap based on experience (upto 6 years, 7-9 years, 10+ years, respectively). I find it really hard to wrap my mind around the cap explosion. But to put Lopez's 12-15% of cap usage into 2014-15 terms, off a $63 million cap, it's like Lopez is a $9.5 million player next year, and $7.5 million the following year. Decidedly middle class.
BTW, that cap jump to 108 million next year and seniority issue is why I think Durant takes a 2 year deal with a player option. At middle seniority off an 89 million cap, he can get a deal that starts at $27 million (30% of $89mm) with 7.5% raises. If his long term deal starts a year later, it's $38 million (35% of $108 million) with 7.5% raises. Difference is YUGE.

40 pts on just 18 shots for Curry...
I'm trying to figure out how good the Warriors would be without Curry.
Just remember, Curry is NOT a great player ok? He's a great shooter. ok...
--Francesser.
Would have like to see KP napalm Bargs on the low post.
Jimmer and Eary were awful from what i saw yesterday and that was pretty much the entire game...
they both just chucked the entire game, Early looked like he had no desire to be there...
