Porzingis certainly didn't have any conditioning issues late in Wednesday's game against Philadelphia.
With five minutes to play in the fourth quarter, he gathered the ball at the top of the key, pumped-faked, took two dribbles to get around Nerlens Noel and threw down an uncontested dunk. You can watch the play here.
The dunk was Porzingis final basket of the night, leaving him with 17 points to go along with 10 rebounds. He has nine double-doubles in 19 games -- the sixth-highest total in the NBA.
Hes been pretty good, Knicks guard Jose Calderon said with a grin.

I liked Atkins...
Trice i was a little dissappointed in, i wanted to see him run the offense especially with 2 scorers next to him, i wanted to see him set those guys up and he did not do that, he took to many contested shots for my liking...
Point guards need to start to realize with the Knicks you have 2 guys maybe 3 with afflalo that are scorers and you can really rack up the assists if you look to run the offense and set them up for easy looks...
I was dissapointed really in the whole product, i did not go in with high expectations but guys are so selfish in the D league instead of carving out a niche and showing that you can become a role player, players think they can still be stars and just chuck up a bunch of shots thinking if they score a lot they are going to get claled up...no teams ar elooking for role players not superstars....
Early and Fredette i wanted to see them take over, especially Early, i wanted to see the offense run through him, but all he did was take wild layups and made dumb decisions...
Was hoping for him to be posterized by KP on a patented putback while Bargnani is doing his patented "stare off into space while the ball is coming off the rim". Oh well.
Dan - a lot of what you're saying about Valentine would also apply to Brogdon, I think. Very similar players in a lot of ways - about the same size, average athletes but strong and smooth with a big wingspan and hard-nosed defense. Valentine's been a better shooter in the past, but so far this year Brogs is shooting well (41% on threes right now).
He's the kind of player I usually think "meh, great college player but not athletic enough". But the more I watch him the more I like him.
I feel like those guys work out more often than not.
Not sure. But I also think that scouting plays a big part in it. A lot of these guys dont get drafted high/at all, so when they fail it doesnt seem like a bust. The ones who do get drafted high are probably better athletes than the popular discussion would indicate.

It's funny as I said I generally am all about the athletic freaks with upside but as Jon noted the guys who put up numbers but aren't "great" athletes often surprise. Roy and Lillard for example. I admittedly haven't seen Brogdon (I only noticed Valentine because for some reason 2 games in one week were on when I was at the gym). But as I get older I really notice the guys who play the game with high IQ. I'm not a stuffy old man, I don't have any issue with showboating or simply being a beast who over powers you but watching Valentine was sort of like a throw back. You can tell he legit doesn't care about his numbers offensively which is why his numbers are so impressive. I realize odds are he won't be a Knick but I really love his game from what I've seen. I'll keep an eye out for Brogdon. We discussed Simmons the other day and Simmons does a lot of the little things AND is a freakazoid athlete. Quite a combo.

Great post by Deej. With cap expected to rise to 90 million next year and 108 in 2017, a lot of so-so contracts are suddenly going to become bargains, including Melo's deal.
Quote:
Lopez will make $[14.3] million in 2016-17. The cap is "expected" to be $108 million, and I think it is more likely to go over than under. $14.3 million is 12.2% of a $108 million cap ($13.8 of proj. $89 million cap next year, or 15.5%).

Yeah, yet another reason you dont need to rush to trade Melo. As he ages, he gets cap-cheaper. Bracketed a fix to a typo above -- it doesnt change the other #s or percentages I had.
Porzingis: "Sometimes I see somebody with a Brooklyn hat on, I say, What is that? You need a Knicks hat."
Kristaps Porzingis is into this Knicks-Nets game: "I know our fans are better than Brooklyns fans."
The Porzingod is 7'3 and sees all.
Arnie: didnt know that. Thanks. So he's a bit less cap-cheaper. OTOH, he'd have 10 million reasons to accept a trade this offseason (and Im not saying we should or he would):

Porzingis has been named Rookie of the Month for the Eastern Conference.
Porzingis has been named Rookie of the Month for the Eastern Conference.
Covers October & November. Because The Porzingod is all powerful.
And Stephen Curry has 5 20-point quarters already this season. Last year's leader, Westbrook, had 4.

Actually, there is a side discussion above re the Warriors. How good are they if you take Curry off the team.

40 pts on just 18 shots for Curry...
I'm trying to figure out how good the Warriors would be without Curry.
Not as good, but they also wouldn't be nearly as good without Draymond Green.
I have watched many games including summer league et, but they lost me the middle of last season.
Quote:
pretty damn average without him.
They would be an average team....It depends who the PG would be rather than Curry...
You know what? If Curry did miss time, I wouldn't be shocked if the Warriors played Green at point, or at least had him run the offense from the 3 or 4. It's no accident that he leads the team in assists.
I'm not so sure that's true. He moves his feet really well, evades screens, makes on ball steals in addition to playing the passing lanes, contests shots, and seldom is abused or even exploited defensively.
Damn!
It's gonna be a lot of fun watching that guy develop. Good on you Knicks fans.

See... the more I watch a guy like Draymond Green play, the more I come to notice and appreciate all these subtleties that elevate your team from good to great and great to dominant. For example: I can't claim to know shit about screens, and even I can appreciate how awesome Green's screens are compared to others. He doesn't just stand in the way, he times it perfectly and turns his body in a way, maximizes how difficult it will be for the defender to get around, and in several occasions, forces the defender to maneuver in such a way that he gets in the way of another defender! It's awesome.

remember Givony mocking me on twitter for suggesting that Lance Thomas could be an NBA player.
Suck it, bitch.
If you won that debate in retrospect, it wasnt by much.
A win's a win. Dude acted very holier than thou in the process as well.

KP has really great hands. Noel reaches in there to poke the ball out and he instinctively pulls it back to protect it and continues his dribble and gets the easy dunk.
Noel is a good defensive big when he wants to be, but honestly, that was lazy defense. He goes for the steal, stops moving his feet and watches KP go to the rim.
If that slug played and got shit pushed by Porzingas the universe would big bang itself again. There would simply be nothing left for the human race to accomplish.
Haha...

Porter and 2 picks (which will likely be lousy) doesn't get anyone excited. I'd rather just keep Melo.
It literally makes zero sense to trade melo right now
Hawks say they have assigned guard Tim Hardaway, Jr., who started 30 games with NYK last season, and center Edy Tavares to D-League Canton.

My man crush on the Zingmeister grows by the day. I fucking love this guy
Yeah. I'll continue to sound like a broken record, but the return needs to be in the neighborhood of the Love return. Otto Porter and Oubre arent bad pieces, but it's not remotely enough. If my price is too high, so be it. Im happy to keep Melo. But Im reasonably sure that my valuation of Melo is a lot closer to correct than the implied value Lowe put on Melo.

I honestly thought that coach might get something out of him.

He'd better not be taking minutes away from my man Joey Hoops
*ahem* 20-0.
If he's this good now. What kind of player will he be in 2-3 seasons? It's so exciting to watch him develop. This kid has the heart and desire to reach his ceiling, if not surpass it.
Lastly, his temperament is a perfect fit NY. He reminds me if Eli in certain ways. He's unflappable.
Interesting. - ( New Window )
Whiteside shuts down the lane by himself. Imagine Porzingis helping out. That would be one of the best 4/5 defensive combos in the game and nobody would ever get rebounds. One can wish!
