DT Barry Cofield

December 17, 2015

Q: How does it feel to be back?

A: It feels great, it feels great. It’s very nostalgic and then you get to work and you feel good about that as well. So many familiar faces in the staff, front office, around the building, cafeteria, such a solid organization where you get that kind of consistency is very comforting.

Q: What is it like to just join the team during the homestretch? You guys are in a middle of a playoff run and here you are in the middle of December.

A: It’s interesting. It’s definitely a position I’ve never been in but it’s exciting. It’s exciting to come in with fresh legs even though it’s year 10 for me, I feel like a rookie out there. I’m trying to pick up the playbook, the d-line room has been great and they welcomed me with open arms. They’ve helped me out there, helped me get lined up, and helped me in the classroom. It’s a great group and I’m excited to help them.

Q: How much of the playbook came back to you instantly, since you were in this system before?

A: A lot of the base stuff is very similar, especially the stuff that they’re going to have me doing. They’re not going to throw me completely in the fire but I’m sure I will get burned a little bit. It has to be trial by fire but they’re going to limit the snaps that I take. A lot of the stuff that I’m doing is stuff that’s very familiar and a lot of it is just football, 4-3 defense where I’m most comfortable, and I’m very excited about the opportunity.

Q: How are you doing physically?

A: I feel great. Everybody, once they hit like year 8 or 9, they should take a year off. It’s been almost a calendar year since I hit anybody and it definitely shows in the way that I feel. I’m excited about that, I feel like it was a fountain of youth, and I feel like I can play a few more years, that’s my goal.

Q: Did you have hip surgery?

A: Yeah, hip and groin. It was all connected; I had a long stretch of groin and sports hernia type injuries that were all because of the hip. The labrum and the hip was damaged and once we figured out that was the issue and corrected it, ever since then I’ve been on the up and up and I feel great.

Q: Have you been assured that it’s going to be okay or are you in danger of reinjuring it?

A: No. I’ve been rehabbing it, strengthening it for so long now and I feel great. I could have been back on the field for somebody a few weeks ago, just this opportunity, the perfect opportunity popped up. I worked out for the team a couple weeks ago as you guys know and had a great workout and a great physical. The chips just fell this week that this was the week that they chose to bring me in so I’m ready.

Q: When did they first reach out to you?

A: I kind of reached out to them after they had a couple injuries up front. I saw that they were going to be in the thick of things in the race, that’s kind of one of the criteria, I wanted to go to a team that had a chance. I just didn’t want to go out there run into a wall for nothing at this point. I reached out to them, Spags (Steve Spagnuolo) and Coach [Robert] Nunn, those are my guys, so I talked to them. Of course, I got around the flag pole….They contacted me yesterday morning, and I was on a plane yesterday evening, and now I’m here on the practice field. It’s been a whirlwind but it’s a blessing.

Q: You reached out to them for the workout?

A: Yeah, just to let them know that I was healthy if they wanted to kick the tires, and see what I had left in me. My last couple of years just dealing with the injuries, I just wanted to prove to the people that I still had it, still had some juice in my legs, and they were happy with workout. They just said that the timing wasn’t right when I came in a couple weeks ago and that time is now, so I’m excited.

Q: What were you doing? Do you do some kind of rehab business or something?

A: Yeah, I actually own a gym called D-1. I’ve got it on my chest so I appreciate these cameras. It’s a training facility and we have a rehab/PT clinic built right in. I bought it in February, perfect timing for me, I had surgery in March, and so I just have been living in there. It’s worked as a business as in that business and my football business, training, running, high level speed running, and rehab therapy every day. I’ve been working on my whole body and I just feel great.

but I am more intrigued to by Montori Hughes. Hughes is enormous and he should be getting more playing time now with all the injuries. It is time for Bromley and Hughes to start contributing.

Montori seems like a 3-4 NT.

Must be hard for him being out there after losing his daughter this summer. Wonder if he got cut by the Colts because his head was not in the game.

could be exciting. Always loved his heart.
Barry was a big hero in 2011 or was it 2007?

I remember him pushing up the middle and devouring Brady.

Does anyone know how bad Kuhn's knee is.

He should be able to play with a brace if its not to bad
I tore an ACL (not saying Kuhn has an ACL) and finished a full court game playing on for 20 minutes
That was Jay Alford
