as well as roster, but regarding Herrmann, how would fans (or even his fellow coaches) know if he coach a lick or not?? i.e., given the personnel he had to work with. In any event, the decision has been made and we move on to the next stage in connection with HC change.
I had not been aware Palmieri and Flaherty both had come here with TC in 2004. Those changes seem like they should have been made some time ago, and maybe it will become apparent TC too, but not to re-start that debate.
Yeah, they didn't bring in many highly talented linebackers.
On the flip side, the few linebackers that might have flashed a bit of ability, like a Jacquian Williams, had one good year and were never heard from again. They either never developed, or got worse the longer they were here. I think we should include veteran free agents in that too. Nobody they brought in from outside played up to anyone's expectations except Beason and Boley. Even McClain, who was a starter on another team, doesn't play well enough to stick around here.
but what am I missing about Brinkley that he never gets a positive mention? I see a guy who was around the ball a lot. Maybe you'll tell me it was 7 yards past the line of scrimmage when he first made contact, but I thought he did a nice job and was a nice find

See, this is what stinks about the whole situation. This applied on the OL too. Figuring that even a broken clock is right twice a day, even if the personnel department was absolutely terrible and 90% of what they brought in was crap, the other 10% would show up at some point.
Instead, these two units were serious underperformers. Despite bringing in people in both FA and the draft, nobody was being developed.
It's possible that both personnel and the coaching were to blame. You have to start somewhere, and IMO it's easier to point at the coaching, because the personnel department covers a lot more ground and scouts people that we end up not drafting, so you can easily check to see how effectively they graded without our coaching staff's impact by seeing how players they ranked highly fared elsewhere.
is that they have inside info on some players from their teams. Hopefully we can find some up and comers to rebuild the back end of the roster as well as the front.
While we have a lot of money for FA, that money will go quickly with some big name signings. We also have to make some tough decisions on some players including Cruz, Beatty & Schwartz on O. Are they worth the $$ and the injury risk to bring them back? I say no. Time to move on.
We also have to see about the FAs of our own and who we want back. Is Prince worth it? JPP? Unfortunately I think any of the guys that have an injury history and are FAs should be left as FAs. Its time for us to get healthy and at least not have to count on guys coming off major injuries. I just dont see any guys that we absolutely need to sign from our own roster unless they are willing to take the minimum. A guy like Bradshaw, a guy that was loved here and was a good player, it was the right move to let him go even though he had some glimpses of being very good again he was on injured reserve all 3 seasons with the colts.
Bring in healthy bodies through FA and the Draft. No high risk reward players until the core is solid again.
and, yes, Brinkley definitely worth a mention, and despite lack of ideal quickness for an MLB (what is ideal quickness?), he played well, so what should that suggest about Herrmann? Does he come in knowing how to play and then the "Herrmann effect" takes over, e.g., JW? What about impact of defensive schemes, Sheridan, Fewell, Spags on the parade of ineffective LBs?
But the body of work for LBs is not good, so perhaps the path of least resistance is as jcn says to let the coach go. But what sticks out to me after watching WC and Divisional Round is the speed, smarts, and toughness of a lot of LBs. (And I have to mention mostly inactive WRs for Green Bay and Pittsburgh getting off the bench and having big, big impacts on their games. When was the last time we had that, at any position?) How is it that it's so rare for us to find a true, mid- or late-round stud? We're picking the S from TX (not on any pre-draft lists) and Stefon Diggs is sitting there--granted, 30 other clubs had passed on him to that point. Our overall team speed is poor.
If our GM is saying about 2015 that the d, and by extension the LBs, has a chance to be good, where does this assessment originate?
But McAdoo was already out of the mix by then (head coach of Giants).
So we're either left to believe that Coughlin turned down the Eagles job because he couldn't bring Spagnuolo, and/or he turned it down because he couldn't bring Sullivan, Gilbride Jr., Merritt.
Because the bulk of the staff is now on the street or hired by other teams.
they, specifically JM, are finally willing to make the moves for the HC without, apparently, forcing him to take guys they liked. I'm fairly certain the Spags issue is more about Mc wanting him than Spags forced on him; especially when its reported Giants deny Philly permission to talk to him(my guess while working out details of a new contract).

There were several news articles stating Eagles wanted TC-Mcadoo
It doesn't matter now, but I think Philly wanted TC-Ben package
Eagles probably very impressed with McAdoo but thought he needed more experience.
Probably wanted TC as HC for a couple of years until retirement, with McAdoo as OC, Assistant HC and "HC in waiting". TC might have accepted that arrangement, except that he couldn't bring any other staff.
It might have been that Eagles let him know via back channels that he wasn't going to get the job. Let him bow out gracefully. Miami kind of dissed him thru the media. Or Tom just got cold feet about going to a divisional rival. Who knows? Staff seems unlikely since Tom knows tons of coaches around the league.
ignorant than a lot better than you. You sent me your resume a number of years ago, so I know you are not a Mensa member either
I've been running my own IT department since then and have a few people under me. Orchestrating a two data center moves and a HQ move. But yea, I'm a big ol dummy.... how's your job going placing people in dead end positions?

If this happened a year earlier, Quinn would be out. Instead it's this year and he fields the #2 unit in the NFL.

There is one poster in the history of BBI who meticulously documented through film study what a piss poor player this guy was.
Which says nothing about his natural physical talent.
It was solely a judgement of the actual way he played the game, which was as low and as dumb a level that had ever been seen.
That poster is me.
Numerous threads.
But when I think of that guy and the support he got on this site... well, let's just say I start seeing double.
&$@?$@#%
The Giants hired McAdoo on Wednesday. Coughlin turned the Eagles down after that because supposedly he couldn't bring other NYG coaches with him.
McAdoo was off of the table as soon as the Giants hired him.
Then they wanted Coughlin. Coughlin said no.
