Safety Landon Collins

April 27,2016

Q: Seemed like a year ago you were sitting around wondering?

A: Yeah, it is a hard time. I was wondering, waiting and waiting for your dream to come true.

Q: Does it feel a lot longer?

A: Yeah, the offseason made it feel much longer because when you are in college, you are thinking about going into spring and now it is not just kind of sitting off and kind of keeping the emotion and stay training and staying in the mindset that I have to go back and put in the same effort that I put in the year before.

Q: What was your focus in the offseason?

A: My focus was maintaining --- basically maintaining and trying to lessen my weight and then after that, just key concepts. I worked with Ryan Clark from the Pittsburgh Steelers and definitely working with a great helped me learn the game even more.

Q: You said you wanted to drop some weight. What was your thinking behind that?

A: Just playing at a lower weight. That is about it. That was my biggest goal.

Q: What do you think that is going to do for you?

A: It is just healthier. You last longer, it is healthier, better movement for my body and you get more air when you are out there.

Q: What are you at?

A: Like 217. I am going to try and drop a little more but like 217 right now.

Q: When you see what the team did with free agency, do you sit there and say that is good for me?

A: I say it is good for the defense, not just good for me, it is good for the defense because we work as a whole and with those type of moves, it brings our defense to be much stronger and more competitive against other teams.

Q: Do you sit there and say if we get this pass rush, it will create more turnovers or do you have to adjust your game?

A: I don’t know. We have to take it one step at a time. We have some great pass rushers now and last year we had some, too, so we will see how it goes when the season starts.

Q: How much more comfortably do you feel out there now that it is year two in the system?

A: Oh man, so much more comfortable. Having the same defensive scheme and just little simple changes, but definitely more comfortable just knowing what I am going into and knowing the same defense and same calls that I have and knowing the route concepts and picking up on the guys I played with it, is very, very comfortable for myself.

For the record, Collins was 228 at the combine last year

I'd say cutting down 11 pounds is good for him. Perhaps even more is necessary.

A 4.53 at 228 was good, I wonder what he'd run if he did it today.
I like it

He'll be better closer to 210.
Collins at 210lbs?
KWALL2 : 4/27/2016 3:40 pm : link
He was the spare national champion entering college. He was 210lbs. He ran the 40 in 4.42 and had a 43" vertical.

Faster? More explosive? Oh yes.
Spare = SPARQ

Second or third player to mention weight loss

I wonder, just trying to maintain top form, or a by product of the new strength and conditioning system.
Q: Have you reached your ceiling?
Mason : 4/27/2016 4:07 pm : link
A: What?
Q: Well um... this guy on a Giants football forum, um... said that this might be it for you. Your thoughts?
Q: what were you doing when the Giants drafted you
Giants2012 : 4/27/2016 4:12 pm : link
A: I was outside playing ball with my 12 year old nephew who just burnt me deep. Learning is a process . . . .
Very happy to hear

I hope he can get in the 210 range.
The key will be keeping the weight off

There was an interesting blog by his mother last year during the draft season which included this tidbit....
Quote:
I was actually surprised that Landon checked in at 228 on the combine scales.

Landon’s been training with Wyatt Harris at the Sonic Boom facility in New Orleans for over a year now. Wyatt’s trained guys like Odell Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry, Marques Colston, Tracy Porter and Robert Meachem, who’s taken Landon under his wing.

I didn’t know Landon had gotten that big, though. I called Wyatt and told him Landon needed to knock off five to 10 pounds.

His trainer said he was 217 when he left for the combine. Landon said he was drinking too much water and ate before the competition, but I don’t think water weight was the culprit there. Landon is a sweets eater.
