Sixth Round Draft Choice Jerell Adams

May 6, 2016

Q: Jerell, what kind of opportunity do you see for yourself?

A: I feel like it is a good opportunity. Right now I am just showing them what I can do, how athletic I am and how good of a blocker I am, so just showing them what I can do right now.

Q: Did you have a chance to see any of the veterans when you came in yesterday?

A: No sir. Not yet. Not yet. I haven’t gotten to meet anyone yet.

Q: What is the biggest transition coming from South Carolina offense to the Giants offense?

A: Just getting used to the concept of the play calling and the wording of the plays. It is all the same, but you just have to get used to the words and the concepts of it.

Q: Tight ends that usually come in say they can catch but have to improve on their blocking. Do you feel you are a blocker first?

A: Yes sir, I feel like I am a pretty good blocker. There is always room for improvement, so I feel like coming here and working on my blocking and catching, I can have a big role on this Giants offense.

Q: Is that a sense of pride, to be able to block?

A: Yes sir, it is a pride thing from putting my hand in the dirt and getting down.

Q: I heard that you went to your coach in college and volunteered to be on special teams. Is that true?

A: Yes sir, our special team wasn’t doing that great and in the meeting room he asked a couple guys that if we wanted to, we could come on the field and volunteer. I was one of the guys that stepped up and played my part on special teams.

Q: What do you take from special teams to your role on offense?

A: Special teams plays a big part on the team. Special teams sometimes determines whether you win a game or lose a game, so I kind of take that too the offense, the motivation, to the offensive side of the ball.

Q: Can your speed at that position translate to big plays?

A: Yes sir, I feel like I have some good speed. To get away from some linebackers and to get down the field, so yes sir.

Q: What do you know about the tight ends that are playing here?

A: I actually haven’t met anybody yet. I don’t know much about them so when I get a chance to meet them, then you guys can ask that question.

Q: What has this past week been like for you?

A: Just being with my family and getting my family time in. I am not going to see them for a while, so they just wanted to be around me and spend as much time as they can.

Looks like he could play tackle in a pinch

Looks like he will help the running game.

How he basically says "Yes sir" in every answer. Comes off like a good kid.
I wish someone had asked him if he knows anything about any

for me Giants player(s) to wear number 89. And then to suggest he watch some Mark Bavaro highlights tape...

Du'oh...
From that game tape he's already a better blocking TE than what we

have on the roster. My prediction is that we will carry 3 TE's this year: Adams, Tye, and Mallett.

Biggest plus to me is that he looks aggressive, he wants it whether its the ball or a block. He comes up WAY too high to block sometimes but the effort is there as is the power.
Around the 8 min mark, on a long TD catch and run after catch up the

seam, not a bad Bavaro imitation. And he can certainly block a bit. Results of his blocking more than you expect maybe from his rather spindly build? Not quick at all it seems but he has power and looks like a serious amount of room for growth to fill out.

Reminds me a bit of Boss, but a better blocker from that linked tape.
What stands out to me is his speed.

I said this in another Adams thread, but you watch how far downfield he is shortly after the ball is snapped and it's pretty impressive. I hope he has his head on straight and gets into the playbook because he can be a real weapon.
