LB B.J. Goodson
May 6, 2016
Q: Did the coaching staff talk to you about what type of role you will be playing?
A: Right now I’m working on the inside linebacker position, but I will definitely be learning all linebacker positions. You never know what will happen with injuries, so I’m just getting ready to make my contribution.
Q: Have you acquainted yourself with the Giants’ rich history of linebackers and if so, what are your thoughts about it?
A: The history here speaks for itself. It’s a great city of defense. When you think of defense, this is one of the cities you think of. So it’s a great thing to be a part of it.
Q: Do you view yourself as a middle linebacker?
A: Yes, I do view myself as a middle linebacker, but I can fit in all three of those linebacker positions.
Q: What is it about middle linebacker that plays to your strengths?
A: I just don’t get stuff on one side. I can get to the ball if it comes on either side. There’s no excuse for not getting to the ball.
Q: The man in the middle wants to be in the middle. Is that you?
A: Yes sir. I’m definitely getting in the playbook and getting things down. I’m getting ready to help the team.
Q: What about the ability to learn the playbook, make the calls and set up guys who are older than you?
A: It’s definitely something I can accomplish, but it’s also something that’s a work in progress. It’s a goal that I’m working toward.
Q: What’s your impression of the draft class, the facility and the NFL routine so far?
A: We drafted a great class, and I wouldn’t want to come in with any other guys. They’re built with great character off the field, and I think it will transfer on the field.
Q: Did you pay attention to the draft and when did you first hear from the Giants?
A: I definitely paid attention and strategized going into the draft. But I got my call a couple of slots before I got picked. I was happy to get that call. I had visited here before and now I’m just happy to have had my name called.
Q: Have you spoken to Levon Kirkland and what did he tell you?
A: He gave me great inspiration and told me to keep working and get into the playbook.
Q: Is it surreal to be in a large city like NYC, being that you’re from a small town?
A: I try to keep life simple. Football is first, my faith and family, of course. I try to keep life simple and not make things bigger or smaller than what they are.

to a starting job. Learn the playbook. Come to camp. Work hard. Wait for Robinson and Brinkley to get hurt. Play immediately.
Brinkley knowing the system will give him a leg up, but depending on how things go I don't see Robinson as a roster lock that will keep Goodson away from a role if Robinson doesn't play well and Goodson does
