Q: I see you have gotten into the real estate market. You bought your mom a house?

A: Yeah, I am also looking for [my own house] as well, but yeah. I went down there and surprised her. It was a house she wanted for a while and it was unexpected, so she cried and my fiancé cried as well, so everybody was emotional in the house. I didn’t.

Q: You didn’t cry?

A: I did. I just didn’t want to tell you guys.

Q: So it is a good day getting two women in your family to cry?

A: Oh, yeah. Uh, well that depends on how you see it.

Q: Crying with tears of joy.

A: Exactly.

Q: I thought you were crying because you had to pay for it.

A: That, too.

Q: What is that feeling like? To be able to come through on a promise like that?

A: It was big because ever since that day, we talked about it a lot. It was a competition between my brother and I. He told my mom that he would be the one to do it, so we were pushing each other for a while as kids but about 19 years later, I made that dream come true and it was awesome.

Q: Where is the house?

A: In Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Q: And this is a house she has been eyeing?

A: Yeah, she loved everything about it.

Q: Had she been in there before?

A: Yeah, she did. They went to view it a while back but I made her think that it was just another house that they were looking at and I made her think it wasn’t a possibility.

Q: What was your living situation when you grew up?

A: Projects, man. Apartments, if that is what you want to call it, in New Iberia, Louisiana and in Lake Charles.

Q: Were you affected by Hurricane Katrina?

A: Katrina and Rita, yes ma’am.

Q: So you had to go to the Superdome or a shelter for a while?

A: Yes. For some time.

Q: Did that make you appreciate having a steady home?

A: That is just me naturally. I don’t take anything for granted. I appreciate everything that is given to me and everything, even if I have to work for it, that is just me.

Q: Can you describe the apartment that you grew up in?

A: Regular project apartment. There were three bedrooms, the kitchen, living room, dining room and playroom all together, all in one room. A small bathroom, so now, I told my mom, I was joking with her and told her that whole apartment can fit in her kitchen now. I’m still smiling on the inside. I just got done texting with her and she said she is still crying.

Q: How many of you were in that apartment.

A: My goodness. About six of us, I think. Yeah, six.

Q: Is she in the house yet?

A: No, she is in. Well, I helped them. That is another thing. I went there to just surprise her with the house and I ended up helping everybody move in.

Q: Who is helping with the decorations?

A: She is. She wanted to do everything on her own. She wanted it the way she wants.

Q: So you were carting boxes?

A: Yeah, I had the dolly; I was moving refrigerators and deep freezers.

Q: You got yourself a good workout there.

A: Yes ma’am, I did.

Q: You are going to do more heavy lifting down there than in OTAs with no contact?

A: I don’t know. I still think it is a little tough out there man, mentally. I should say the physical portion of it is easy.

Q: Is that a weird thing for you guys? We see the skill guys out there but as far as the guys up front, there is not much contact you can have, so how does that fit into your progression with OTAs and minicamp?

A: It is tough because a guy like me, I am not finesse whatsoever. I don’t know how to go out here and just run around. I am physical. I want to put my hands on someone, I want to bull rush, I want to do everything. You can’t do that out here, so you kind of just do what you can but it is tough.

Q: In your position, is there that much to learn in this defense?

A: Yeah because it is a different scheme. Coach Spags has things that he does totally different from what I am accustomed to. You would think you would just be sitting in the middle stopping the run, which is what I am used to doing, but, no, there are some different things.

Q: What was that drill you were doing with Coach Graham in the back corner?

A: First off, they were making fun of me because I messed up on the play that I was supposed to know. I was supposed to run a lap and JPP tried to get everyone’s attention to let them know I was supposed to run the lap. They say I did something on the field to distract everybody and nobody really paid attention, so what I did was I talked Coach Graham into walking us over there and going over the play with me so I didn’t have to run the lap.
Love everything about this guy

same here he is going to have a huge impact on the defense. Harrison is going to elevate the play of the LB unit by keeping OL off of them allowing them to roam around and make some plays.
Not only was this a great

Acquisition for the person we got, but I have a feeling that despite all of the money we spent this off season, I think this guy is going to be the key acquisition that propels the whole defense to new heights. I think he's what gets JPP paid next off season.
Here is a nice article about his buying his mom a house

Damon Harrison can still remember the days in the projects in Louisiana, long before he was a highly compensated Giants defensive tackle. And long ago, back when he was eight years old, living in a cramped apartment in New Iberia, he decided that somehow, some way, he'd get his mother, Brunella Harrison, out of those projects.
