Head Coach Ben McAdoo

June 14, 2016

Q: Is it good to have Victor Cruz back in there for some snaps?

A: It was good to have Victor back in the fold. [It was] another small step today.

Q: Why did you guys want to bring him back in the spring?

A: We felt it was time to take the next step.

Q: It was a small step but how significant is it?

A: Any time he has a chance to get out there and build chemistry with the quarterback, it’s a plus.

Q: You obviously didn’t want to tax him too much physically.

A: Again, another small step.

Q: Any more steps forward during these three days?

A: We will find out. We will go in, we’ll take a look and see how he gets through today. We aren’t done with our work today, so we’ll see how he gets through today, wake up in the morning and see where we are.

Q: A month ago, you had mentioned training camp as the likely goal for Cruz. What changed between then and now?

A: We felt it was time to take the next step.

Q: In general, did you like the way he looked?

A: Yeah, absolutely. He ran a couple routes versus air, versus man to man, stuck his foot in the ground and looked like he could get some separation.

Q: Does he look like he is concerned about the calf at all?

A: We will go in and take a look at it on tape, but I didn’t notice anything out here live.

Q: You are missing J.T. Thomas out here. Is he injured?

A: J.T. has a lower leg injury. It is something that we feel he will be ready for camp.

Q: What about updates on Mykkele Thompson, Matt LaCosse and Montori Hughes?

A: No, same thing, we are going to hold onto those guys until camp.

Q: For Thompson, was it his Achilles again?

A: Lower leg.

Q: Is that troubling for you, with him?

A: Yeah, I mean it is something that popped up last week. We expect him to be ready to go for training camp.

Q: From OTAs to minicamp, what are you trying to accomplish the most during this stretch?

A: It is really a super-charged OTA, is what mini camp has become. We don’t have pads on, we have helmets on, we are just trying to build on some of the things we accomplished in OTAs and really take it to the next step that way, and finish the offseason strong heading into camp.

Q: There are a lot of small changes with practice. Was it difficult deciding what was going to be changed and what sort of went into those decisions?

A: No, we have been thinking about it for a while, I have been thinking about it for a while, so evolution not revolution, and it was easy to make some of those changes, some of those tweaks.

Q: Who was that voice there at the end?

A: That was Rachel from the [cafeteria], so shout out to Rachel. We are going to use a variety of tactics there during practice to motivate.

Q: You have only had a few days with him, but how is Paul Perkins so far? Does he have a lot of catching up to do?

A: Yeah, I mean, obviously. Paul has watched every practice. We had a chance to catch up with him at night. There are some rules that you can communicate at night in watching the practice, being able to go through and look at the installs and study the book. Certainly it is not as good as being here, but he has some catching up to do.

Q: You were able to send him video of the practice?

A: Yes.

Q: You were able to go over it with him everyday?

A: Not me personally, but he was able to watch it and get feedback on the practice.

Q: With his position coach, I assume?

A: Yes.

Q: How excited are you about the group that is assembled out here today?

A: [I am] very excited. We are putting a solid foundation down, we have a lot of positive energy out here, and the guys seem excited, and I feel like we have a chance to build a pretty strong team.

Q: One of the older institutions of Tom Coughlin was turning the clocks five minutes ahead. Did that ever change?

A: No, we remain on TC time.

Q: We got to see DRC in the slot. What do you like about that?

A: We want to train a variety of the guys inside. I think it helps with versatility. It also helps to learn the complete picture of the defense. I think if they can play outside and inside, it helps understand what the other positions are going through and we have a variety of guys who can do both.

Q: We saw Sterling Shepard running with the first team. What has he done to earn that and what has he done that has impressed you thus far?

A: Again, he is a young, conscientious player. He has made a lot of plays here in the offseason, and he is going to have an opportunity to earn that spot.
Hmmm...

what I'm hearing from McAdoo. I know it's early but he has clearly been well groomed for this job.

I also liked that quote and some of the details he is installing , I don't know if that was always the thinking
but saying that players can get a better perspective of the
job the guy next to him is doing .
Like Ben brings a different thought process but does not
throw everything in the dumpster like TC Time ect.

I agree I've liked Ben from the start and I'm hoping and I don't think he will

Run a lot of things like Coughlin ,The Coughlin time sounds good but I bet he doesn't enforce it as much as Tom did .what will be refreshing is I'm hoping his press conferences will be different (please) than Toms

Because I could never stand Coughlin at the podium for 15 minutes going over almost everything the other team does well and building their players up to the point where I used to say he's giving the other team confidence

And it used to piss me off and then he'd take questions ,I remember saying to myself come on Tom will ya if I want to know about the other team this much I'll go to their website let's talk Giants or just answer questions.

So my point is I think Macadoo press conferences will be much better because so far he says a little and then just opens it to questions

Much better than all that Coughlin Chatter ......

Can't wait to see the post from you, five/ten years down the line when you decide you really miss the old HOF coach and his informative press conferences. ;)
Don't worry
