Head Coach Ben McAdoo

August 5, 2016

Q: How is Odell doing?

A: He's bouncing back.

Q: Is he going to be out there for the full practice tomorrow?

A: He was fine. He was out there today. Involved in the rotation today. We'll take a look tomorrow morning for tomorrow.

Q: For the defensive backs, would you prefer that specific players win specific roles on the top defense or are you comfortable rotating because you have depth?

A: We love competition. That's the best way to get better and we feel that we've created some good competition.

Q: How do you think Leon Hall adjusted at his first practice?

A: Right now, he's getting his feet wet in the system, he's learning. He's played a lot of football. So we expect him to make a quick transition.

Q: Where do you plan to use him, how do you plan to use him?

A: We're going to let him get his feet wet. Get entrenched in the system and get him some opportunities inside.

Q: How is the running game doing in camp?

A: The running backs seem to be picking things up quickly. I think they had a nice day yesterday. Today was more mental.

Q: Can you envision using Leon in a safety type role?

A: Never say never. I'm not going to give you the book.

Q: Is that something that you contemplated before bringing him in?

A: Again, never say never.

Q: Would you prefer that Rodgers-Cromartie is either playing on the outside or playing on the inside, or do you want to have the versatility to use him in both?

A: We want versatility, to use him inside and outside.

Q: With the heavy contact from the past couple practices, how did Jason Pierre-Paul come through with his hand?

A: Pretty good, we did some banging out there yesterday. He had a chance the last couple of days to do some one-on-ones. Looked very disruptive, had a lot of energy. That’s a better question for him.

Q: Do you find that, in general, slot corners can make that transition to safety?

A: No. I think it depends on the individual.

Q: What is the criteria for that type of transition?

A: There are a bunch of different types of slot corners. Depends on if they are a coverage player or if they are a run player on early downs or normal downs and distance. So it just depends on the skill set.

Q: Where does Leon fit in there?

A: That's a good question. He's a corner, and he has a nice coverage skill set.

Q: What have you thought of Larry Donnell so far?

A: He has had a nice camp. He has done a good job on special teams for us. Made some plays down the field. I would like to see him catch the ball a little bit cleaner. Had a couple of bobbles, but he did come down with the ball; and his run game is a priority for him.

Q: Was it an important test for Victor Cruz to get hit yesterday or would you rather not see him get knocked around?

A: I think that’s great, that’s healthy. That's a part of it.

Q: He came out okay?

A: Yes

Q: Was it planned for Cruz to not really participate today?

A: Again, just a part of his program.

Q: The music was a little lower today.

A: Yeah, we'll fix that. We tied it into the workload. The music and the intensity were tied together.

Q: Is that by design?

A: Yeah, today was a teaching day. So we dialed it back a little bit.

Q: Has any player surprised you early on or made a decision at a specific position more difficult than you envisioned?

A: Let's get to the games, it's a little early. Let's have them fight through some things first.

Q: How happy are you with the lack of soft tissue injuries?

A: We're early. we're early. Don't jinx me.

Q: Was this the plan, to go light at practice or did you have to adjust?

A: We talked to them last night that this was the plan all along. We call it a REM Friday. We had a little bit more REMs last night, brought them in a little bit later. Had a chance to hydrate them and bring it back down. We recovered this morning, and we're starting that launch back up and tomorrow is going to be a great day.

Q: What is REM?

A: REM sleep

Q: Tomorrow, longest practice of the camp?

A: Yeah, we're going to build up. Tomorrow is going to be long, it's going to be physical, it's going to be fast.

Q: So full pads or just uppers?

A: Oh yeah, full pads.

Q: What are you seeing from Ereck Flowers so far?

A: Ereck Flowers is a young man who is learning to trust his technique. He's fighting hard out there. OV is not someone who is going to make it really easy on him. So he's learning to battle with a good competitor out there.

Q: Have the guys on PUP had a set back?

A: No setbacks.

Q: What do you like about your offensive line coach?

A: Mike Solari has been around the game for a long time. He's a tremendous football coach, and I'm fortunate to have him.

Q: You guys have history together in the past?

A: No, but I feel like I do. I've known a bunch of coaches who've worked with him in the past.
