WR Roger Lewis Jr.

Postgame vs. New England, September 1, 2016

Q: How much is special teams going to mean when it comes to roster cuts?

A: It’s huge, special teams is huge. I’ve never played special teams in my life, but I’m buying in everyday, still going hard, still learning. Coach Quinn is doing a great job showing us the technique. Coach Stukes showing us the technique, just going hard everyday.

Q: What was the biggest adjustment to playing special teams? Was it tackling?

A: Yeah, I’ve never really had to tackle anybody, but I think it’s coming along very well/

Q: How does it feel to make a play?

A: Yeah, you know, it’s all in God’s plan, to be honest. I just had to wait my turn. When the play came, it came, so I was very happy with that, but I also made mistakes and it’s not just me, the line helping me, the QB’s, Eli Manning, Odell and the receivers helping, so it’s not just me.

Q: How much did you feel you needed that one standout play in game action?

A: I needed it. (Have) made a lot of plays in practice, but to make it in the game is big time.

Q: Can you take us through the play? What happened?

A: It was a play where I got a mandatory outside go to protect the inside, and to be honest, I didn’t think he was going to throw it to me, but (Logan) Thomas believed in me and threw it up. I had God-given ability to go make the catch.

Q: Did you feel especially good about that, especially after the ball across the middle? I’m sure you felt you should have come up with that pass?

A: Yeah, I was frustrated. I’m like, ‘my mom is going to say something about that.’ You know when the ball came again, I made sure I made it.

Q: Obviously it’s tough for an undrafted rookie coming in trying to learn the system and all these things in the NFL. Are you pretty happy with what you’ve shown the coaches over the past four or five months?

A: Yeah, I think I’m very happy. I made a lot of good plays in practice and transitioning to the game is big time, so I think I’m very happy, but I’m still learning every day.

Q: What do you think these next 48 hours are going to be like?

A: It’s going to be a lot of praying, a lot of praying and sitting back and praying for my chance.

Q: How big was that play for you?

A: It was huge, I would describe it as a blessing, to be honest. Like I said, I make plays in practice. To come in and do it in the game, that’s huge.

Q: Seemed like a pretty elaborate touchdown dance, too?

A: Yeah, that touchdown dance was when all the vets made the rookies dance in the locker room. So Eli saw it. Odell, he is the dancer. Before the game, even Eli was like, “let’s go out and score a touchdown. I want to see you do that dance,’ and you know, there it goes.

Q: Eli didn’t do that dance, though, right?

A: No, Eli was just saying that.
