Postgame vs. New Orleans, September 18, 2016
Q: How different is this defense this year?
A: Very different. With all the guys that we picked up and with all the great edge rushers we have now, and just protecting better in the back and just making key plays and getting off the field.
Q: Was there talk this week about what happened last year?
A: It is still relevant. We still have a point to prove. We still want to be in that top 10 and we wonít ever forget what happened last year.
Q: What was the game plan coming in and did you feel like you executed what the coach had in mind?
A: Definitely. We stopped the run and we were definitely getting Brees off of his spot, so that he doesnít see those open receivers if he has any and just make a play when he throws the ball.
Q: This defense wasnít able to get pressure on the quarterback last week, how were you able to change that this week?
A: Different schemes. The rushers knew the down and distances and we knew that Brees was a passer and we didnít worry too much about the run and then when we saw him in the shotgun, we knew what the pass situation was.
Q: Was that the most that you blitzed in a game?
A: No, I blitzed a lot at Alabama. I blitzed a lot.
Q: So this was very comfortable for you today?
Q: How physical is this secondary now with Janoris Jenkins on the other side?
A: Yeah, very physical. We all like to thump just like our linebackers and linemen. If you ask our linemen, they will tell you that our safeties come down and are always ready to hunt. We are trying to hit the receivers and get the ball out anytime.
Q: There is still a lot of room for improvement for you guys. Are you still all coming together?
A: Coming together? I mean, there are different things that you can come together on, but as a team and as a defense, we are all together because we all have the same mindset and same goal.
