Q: At 5-3 halfway through, do you know how good you guys can be at this point?
A: We know how good we can be. Weíre not there yet. Weíre working towards that but we still have a long way to go. We havenít done anything yet. We just want to become a better team, more defensively sound and disciplined. Execute our game plan. If we get to do that, we can get to where we want to be at the end of the season. Itís going to take each week building to get there. Itís not going to happen overnight.
Q: They have two pretty good running backs in their backfield. They have different skillsets that can hurt you in different ways.
A: Right. Theyíre both good running backs. Like a 1-2 punch. Hill is a good downhill running back. Heís physical. Then you have Bernard, whoís shifty. Heís a guy thatís similar to Sproles but he does it in a different way. Heís a bigger guy. Heís shifty in the pass game. As far as running the ball, he can hurt you, too.
Q: How much of a challenge is Tyler Eifert?
A: Heís a great challenge. Heís one of those guys that is 6-5, 6-6 and can run, and catch. He poses a great matchup threat to everyone. Safeties, corners and line backers. Heís a guy that we have to make sure we bracket and stop him. Whatever the play call calls for and make sure we know where heís at at all times. Donít leave him wide open. We have to make sure we get hands on him.
Q: Anything from playing Zach Ertz carry over to this week?
A: Every week weíve played some pretty good tight ends. Weíve been doing the same thing. Not take away what they do but make sure we have somebody on those guys. Make sure we limit their production.
Q: How much have you been able to help stopping tight ends and running backs?
A: Honestly, I donít even look at that. I just think every play, did I do my job or did I not do my job? One play might be to stop a tight end or cover him. Is he catching the ball? If he is, how many yards is he getting after he catches the ball. Thatís the way Iím looking at it. Iíve had some guys catch the ball on me this year but it hasnít been for any big plays. It hasnít been for third down conversions. I want to limit the guyís production that Iím covering. If Iím able to do that, then Iím being productive as my role in the defense.
Q: How have you been able to just dive right in here?
A: When I got here, they moved me to WILL. Iíve never done that before but I was down. Iíll learn it. Then they had me playing MIKE and WILL, which Iíve done my whole career. I was very comfortable with that. As far as diving right in, whatever the coaches ask of me, I am willing to be a team player. Willing to help and do my part. As training camp, OTAís, everything progressed, they continued to find ways for me to get involved. Early in the season, they found ways for me to get involved in the nickel package. Now Iím getting more production and opportunities. Iím just doing what the team needs me to do.
