Just read an article on ranking baseball uniforms using the criteria of style and fashionable appeal as well as historical significance.
The article came up as 3) Baltimore Orioles home uniforms; 2) Kansas City Royals alternate uniform; and 1) NY Yankees home uniforms. I shall post the link at the end.
I am biased towards the Yankees, but still think they deserve to be no. 1 on the list. So here's my list:
3) St. Louis Cardinals home uniforms. They've kept much of their traditional uniforms and are steeped in history with a legendary logo
2) Detroit Tigers home uniforms. Clean, traditional, legendary logo
1) New York Yankees home uniforms - legendary logo, classic pinstripes, steeped in historical significance
A little history for Mets fans (who probably already know this): after NYC's loss of the Dodgers fleeing to LA, and the Giants fleeing to San Francisco, the brokenhearted fans in NY who lost their teams were given the Mets in 1962 as a replacement. The Mets uniforms are purposely colored in Dodger Blue and Giants Orange. Not much of a consolation I suppose to the die hard fans who lost their teams, but a nice touch.

Probably. A lot has changed over the years. Mantle used to play drunk and smoke while in the dugout...as did others. Half of them chewed nasty ass tobacco which led to the ban on "spit balls". It wasn't that the ball did funny things during the flight, but pitchers would drool their tobacco juice on the ball and when the batter hit it, tobacco juice would fly in the eyes of the catcher and ump and some outfielders complained when they caught the ball, it made their gloves slippery as well as the ball was hard to grip when throwing it in. Yup, a lot has changed.
I remember when the A's (or was it the Angels?) were complaining that Tommy John was throwing a spit ball. There was a lot of hububaloo around it and TJ was called a cheater, etc. Greg Nettles was interviewed and laughed and said, "hell, throw me a spit ball and I'll knock it out of the park every time. Why don't they make the slider illegal". Always made me laugh

However, I've always liked the old Brewers uniforms back in the 1980s
and the old Mariners with the trident

Less often noted is the pinstripes - those didn't come from the Dodgers or Giants.

Watching Clemente hammer a high fastball out of the park brings back fond memories of a better time in baseball...i.e., when baseball ruled in sports and for some of us, baseball was life.

I don't know the history of pinstripes in baseball, but I've always assumed (bad thing to do) it was started by the Yankees. Quite a few teams have a pinstripe uniform in their history though.
Not sure why the Mets got pinstripes. They were pretty nice looking unis
I love these. They take me back to childhood.

I find the Mets color scheme kind of garish, and I like it when they wear black, but with the flag connection I can't complain too much about it.
