I am going on the assumption that PP is the odds on favorite to win the starting job, Vereen sticks around. Unsure if Darkwa returns but I like him.
One would think we need a bigger RB.
Let's dismiss Joe Mixon from the discussion.
Donta Foreman and James Conner - two 240 lb + bully backs like to go =& gt; 4th round. Both would do a nice job. Do we need to go this big?
If not, Wayne Gallman and Jamaal Williams are 220 lb types that run a little high but had very good college careers.
One guy I haven't see at all is Marlon Mack.
One guy I think has bust written all over him is Samje Perine.
Lastly, from a value standpoint, I think Kareem Hunt will sit just outside of the top 100 picked but outplay many picked before him. I find him to be an incredibly hard runner who is good at everything (and perhaps great at nothing). But if you land him in RD4, that's a great grab.
I think it's just Perkins and Vereen. Darkwa is a FA
I think you might be right. I am a little worried how he will stand up to the pounding in the NFL. I'd be more worried you can get that type of skill set cheaper in a lot of drafts or free agency. I'm a broken record on this but I could see him being the equivalent of Duke Johnson (3rd rounder) who can play specials, was used as a 3rd and 4th WR, and ran the ball with some effectiveness but nothing special thus far. Johnson is also shorter and heavier than Mcaffrey. Vereen, Sproles, Woodhead, and Bush all offer this similar skillset as well. I think every year there are a handful of backs available from college that are jack of all trades but aren't full time players at any one position.
If Mcaffrey isn't dynamic at something in the NFL I don't see why a team should draft him high. A good utility player is worth something but Mcaffrey sounds to be going in the first.
I still wish we took Jordan Howard, but who knows? Maybe Perkins is better, we haven't seen enough yet.
A big back in the 4th, even if you have to trade a 6th to move up in the round, would be fine by me.
Perkins shows promise. Darkwa can't stay healthy and has contributed very little. Vereen is a fine 3rd down back who HAS contributed, but also hasn't been able to stay healthy throughout his career.
Who else do we have right now
Bobby Rainey unless he was a 1 yr contract
I'd really like for them to focus on another scat back who's a good receiver, with real elusiveness and pair him up with Perkins.

Donnell Pumphrey? Kid is very slight though. Needs to gain 20 lbs.
Check out the analysis of this one particular play - ( New Window )
Decent size, rugged build. Can run inside and outside. Doesn't need a big hole. Can make something out of nothing. Excellent vision and balance. Productive. Gets the tough yards. Extends runs. Has some moves, and can be elusive and take it the distance. Quick with decent long speed.
Jersey boy.

Same. I'd really prefer a stud TE or WR over a RB in the first, if we are going offensive skill spots.
UNless you feel those 3 aren't any good.
People on here complaining about fumbling are ridiculous. It's football, fumbles happen and sometimes they can be correctable, and even still, it can happen.

Hunt and McCaffrey are elite in regard to not fumbling. Fournette is below average. Cook, Kamara, and Foreman were all terrible fumbling more than once every 75 carries. If we take a RB in round one, McCaffrey seems like the safest one to pick. Which backs raise red flags - ( New Window )

Look how Tiki got weaned off fumbling.

He's also supposed to be an excellent pass blocker (which will make Eli happy)
Last big man in a Texas uniform running like that was Earl Campbell. Remember ?

Super Bowls leading into the actual game. One thing that really stood out this year was that when the Giants were really good they had a scat back rusher complimenting their early down back. Meggett, Ahmad Bradshaw and, to some degree Joe Morris (although he was THE back and not a role player).
I'd really like for them to focus on another scat back who's a good receiver, with real elusiveness and pair him up with Perkins.

Winner! Pumphrey is the man!

I'd really like him in the 4th or 5th.

I think you could get him 15-20 touches a game between returns, receiving and rushing and not affect Perkins's production. He would be a major asset to Eli.

Maybe, but that would be a huge disappointment. McCaffrey was a far better, more remarkable collegiate player than Johnson was.
