According to Dan Duggan, the roster bonus is for tomorrow. If that is correct and he is still on the roster I seriously doubt he gets cut this offseason
How funny would it be if Reess didn't realize this
on what the front office thinks of Perkins and his role on the team. If he is viewed as the primary back going into the season than Vereen's role really will not have changed from what we payed him to do in the first place. Factor in the cost of moving on from him, dead money and a high-mid round pick, and that might be too high to make addressing the RB position this year worth while.
Personally I think Perkins + healthy Vereen is a pretty good back field that can run most is not all the plays in the book with either of them on the field.
Hey, wait up with the 'according to Dan Duggan' stuff
We should have some clarity regarding Vereen in about 24 hours.

Isn't his $500K roster bonus due tomorrow afternoon?
From the "How do players get paid?" thread:

17 checks

Players get paid each Wednesday during the regular season.
...The signing bonuses are paid up front. The roster/workout bonus pay dates are stipulated in the contracts. For instance, Vereen has a $500K roster bonus due tomorrow per Spotrac. On a related note that means if anything is going to happen to Vereen in terms on a release/restructure, it'll almost definitely happen today.
Time stamps don't lie. Just saying...

It's not just that. Now that Jennings is gone, who carries the load if Perkins gets hurt?
I think the smart move is to reallocate his $ and double down in the draft while brining in a vet on minimum to lead the young guys.
I like Vereen, but RBs have short careers. The one reason why I would be hesitant to actually pull the trigger is he is such a good blocker in pass pro. He's literally better then all of last year's TES.

Darkwa, or a free agent back up, maybe a UDFA who shows in camp. What you don't do is over commit to one position where you already have two perceived starting caliber players because "injuries". Focus on developing lesser guys to be passable if called upon.
this is Vereen's last year under contract. there is no 6/1 advantage.
hopefully they have something up their sleeve for tomorrow. I'd like to keep Vereen, but I'd rather cut him than borrow from tomorrow by restructuring someone else. offer him a paycut this year with a payday next year through an extension. if he doesn't like it, cut him.
I think there's little chance of taking McCaffrey if Vereen sticks.
Injuries plus fumbling. Injuries probably contributing to the fumbling , but that doesn't exonerate him. I don't think they will. But he is an overpaid Giant just now .

I lean towards this thinking as well.
I don't think it's a coincidence the O dropped off last year when he missed most of it compared to the production of it the year before.
I think a lot here underestimate his importance to the O, or just plain forget. Out of sight, out of mind type of thing.
He is in the last year of his contract. The cap hit is the same pre june 1 and post june 1
