Is anyone watching this? Noah Hawley (director of Fargo) hit one out of the park and the visual effects are amazing.

I'm 2 eps behind right now but

The story is thought provoking , An Dan Stevens is incredible.

I've watched alot of shows this winter (The leftovers , Taboo , catching up on shameless & Westworld)

Best show on TV for me so far (except GOT)

This show goes right up to the edge

to binge The Expanse. Great show.
The commercials suck
Greg from LI : 3/15/2017 2:38 pm : link
What the hell is the show even about? The commercials give you absolutely no idea.
well you have to pay attention
Rory : 3/15/2017 2:43 pm : link
but the whole show is premised on a uber powerful mutant whos unstable and has mental issues.

Its a Marvel side project and I wonder if it could ever be tied to the movie series.
It's been great

Love the whole "retro-futuristic" thing they have going. Makes it impossible to pin down when it takes place and gives it a sort of timeless feel. Aweso,e soundtrack and use of music too, from Radiohead to Serge Gainsbourg to none other than Kermit D. Frog. Can't say much be you're two episodes behind. Just get caught up haha.

Legion is Professor X's son and was one of the most powerful mutants ever. Supposedly they have no intention of tying it to the X Men movies though.

Ah, that explains it. God knows there isn't enough comic book shit already.
The last episode kind of took the mystery
ZGiants98 : 3/15/2017 2:51 pm : link
Out of everything. It's pretty cut and dry now.

Well that's kinda the deal with storytelling. They have to "tell" the "story", no? There was a big reveal but I dsagree that's it's cut and dry now. Do t want to ruin anything for the OP though.

I know this, I was trying not to spoil it. I read the AOA series as a kid.

I'm just saying it's much easier to follow what's going on now IMO.
I like Taboo better.

Legion is good but the whooe rescue mission looked like special effects from the 80s. The whole mind aspect is really cool though.
Didn't mean to spoil anything
ZGiants98 : 3/15/2017 3:05 pm : link
Figured almost any X men fan would know about Legion and if they didn't they probably don't care about the Professor X connection anyway. In the first episode they start talking about mutants so...

no not accusing you of anything , was just making a general comment.

But in the comic book world. Legion really F***s shit up
Here's a really good article with quotes from Hawley...

While Hawley knows where Legion is going, at least for its first season, he hopes to embrace that more anarchic spirit, to create a state-of-mind over a plot. It’s a little like, of all things, Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon.

“The first season has to have a beginning, middle and end, because that’s just good storytelling,” Hawley said, but unlike Fargo, which Hawley describes as “this objective ‘true’ story,” Legion “is meant to be a show that’s a state of mind as well.”

The adjective he returns to several times is “hypnotic.” And like hypnosis, it’s a process of bringing you deeper and deeper into a psyche, only here it’s David’s, the most powerful mutant on Earth, rather than your own.

“The first five minutes of the show I need to get you out of your life and what you just watched,” Hawley said. “You put on Dark Side of the Moon and it takes you a couple minutes to surrender to it.”

Like music, filmmaking has a number of tools to achieve this typically buried mentality. “There’s this sort of hypnotic sense — maybe there’s some repetition, maybe some imagery, there’s a sound, some music.”

Anyone who’s seen an episode of Legion will recognize what Hawley is talking about: hallucinatory visions of the Demon with the Yellow Eyes, memories hiding other memories behind tears in reality, fields of glimmering astral spaces and visual metaphors for interior experiences, like the giant knob David turns down to drown out the sound of other minds around him.

“It’s a visual medium,” Hawley said. “ I always want at least once every episode for you to go ‘what did they just do, that’s crazy!’”

Love all the Pink Floyd references

and the Clockwork Orange aesthetic. It's definitely more of an intellectual puzzler than your standard superhero show, but I'm enjoying Hawley's take on the genre.
I amazes me that FX is on a tear,
barens : 3/15/2017 4:54 pm : link
considering most TV shows with commercials, with the exception of a few, are having a difficult time.

Legion may be the best of them on FX, and that is saying something.

The show is so unpredictable, and every episode that I watch, I can't believe this is technically a superhero series. I like the Marvel universe on Netflix, and Legion just destroys those.

A very good show based on a well written, and entertaining series of books. Both the books, and TV show are among my current favorites.

Yeah man, I'd definitely recommend doing so. Last week they used Radiohead's Daily Mail for a pretty massive, pivotal scene and it matched *perfectly*, from the lyrics ("the lunatics have taken over the asylum/waiting on the rapture") to the pacing of the song. It fit like a puzzle.

I just Appreciate how the show opens your critical thinking skills , the complexity really sits with you after every episode. Glad there's a few others who agree

What? The Daily Mail?

Holy shit. I'd have assumed it would be a "safe" song in their catalog like Creep, or maybe Fake Plastic Trees.

Very intriguing.

Haha yeah man, Hawley clearly puts a lot of thought into the soundtrack. Quality tunes that are absolutely relevant to the big picture. Tonight's episode closed with a cover of Bowie's Oh You Pretty Things, and again, pertinent lyrics. Not only is the show great, it gives a music nerd something to geek out about nearly every episode.
Tonight also had Aubrey Plaza in a burlesque scene
