Bigger Impact of JPP Contract

Biteymax22 : 3/18/2017 10:59 am
Though having JPP on the team will certainly be a benefit in 2017 the real impact of his contract is that the Giants have secured the core of their defense for at least a couple more years.

JPP, Snacks, Vernon, Janoris Jenkins and Eli Apple are all signed until 2021.

Our safties, presumably Darian Thomson and Landon Collins are secured throught 2020 and 2019.

What this means is we have 7 starters penciled in to play together for at least 2 more years. Health always being a factor, we should have a top tier defense for at least another year.

The other interesting point that this brings up is this. Next year we will have to make the decision to either extend Pugh or let him walk, would the Giants be willing to try and fill the guard position elsewhere knowing that they will have to give a monster contract to Collins and Beckham the next year? They certainly are going to need a lot of cap room to keep both of them in 2019.

Amazing. Five of the players on that list 1st or 2nd team All Pro.

Apple on All Rookie team and JPP was, or if not injured would have been, comeback POY.

Not surprised that Reese wanted to bring them all back. He could be Hall of Fame material for putting so much young talent on the field at the same time.

There are two sides of the ball. OL, TE, and RB have been weak for too long.

They will definitely sign him as he is the leader of the offensive line. He will want to sign with the Giants as well. They can fit his dollars in.

I don't know if this is the case. We could end up drafting his replacement this year.
He has not been consistently great and signing a guard to 8-10 million per without that level of consistenty is a big cap risk.

There is not one team in the leauge without at least three holes on their roster. This team is one good draft class away from being one of the strongest rosters in the league IMO.
Very odd

Not that long ago guards were the worst paid starters on the team and the fewest high draft choices were expended on them.

Now they are a hotter item in the draft than running backs, and are paid better, too.
