Can Keenan play Strong Side Lber?

superspynyg : 3/18/2017 11:08 am
I know he was a very good weak side lber. And If we resigned him I would be fine with him there.

But I have been reading up on Zach Cunningham and watching clips. If he is our pick at 23 could we resign Keenan and play him at Strong side with Cunningham at Will?

Or is that not feasible? Does that go against his skill set?
Good question
Rjanyg : 3/18/2017 11:15 am : link
I believe Kennard is considered a Sam, he is a good blitzer and string at setting the edge vs. the run. Robinson seems like more of a Weakside, Middle backer. He is better in coverage and space not so much at blitzing and shedding blocks. I've heard some say Goodson could be a Sam but I see him as a Mike. I think Cunningham is a Fit at any position and Reddick could be a Will. Casslias is a Will.
Why would you want to put Kennard on the bench?
Klaatu : 3/18/2017 11:17 am : link
Seems to me that he's an ascending talent that just needs to stay healthy to increase his production.
Kennard is a good blitzer?
XBRONX : 3/18/2017 11:19 am : link
How many sacks has he had over the last two years?
I doubt it
pjcas18 : 3/18/2017 11:20 am : link
you want your SAM to be more physically stout, able to take on a FB or a TE. at 240 or whatever he really is I doubt Robinson can stand up to that punishment.

Plus I like Kennard in that role.

One. But he did have 4.5 in his rookie year. He wasn't called upon to blitz all that much anyway this past year, but he did make it easier for guys like Collins to get to the QB.

Seems to be having a little trouble with this aspect.

not bad but if we get a talent like Cunningham and are able to re-sign Robinson then I want our best talent starting and Kennard as a backup.

If Robinson cant play Sam then Kennard is fine....When Healthy
Kennard isn't going anywhere
Torrag : 3/18/2017 11:27 am : link
He played quite well last season. And no Robinson isn't stout or physical enough for the strong side imo.

You conveniently left out the part where I called Kennard "an ascending talent," which his is, and what Robinson isn't. But if you want to question Kennard's durability, which is valid, than I suggest you do the same with Robinson.

highly doubt it but if he did you run to the podium
Move on..

He's not a strong side player or tough enough to handle the middle over a full season, imo. He's strictly a run and chase coverage LB to me. I am fine with them resigning him to a 1 year deal but am also ok if he doesnt come back. I would rather sign Gerald Hodges and draft a LB in the early rounds to add serious competition to any of the starter spots and / or poss replace Kennard next year. I do hope to see Ishaq Williams this season. Hopefully, he kills in during the spring / summer and makes the team.

Look I have no problem with Kennard. If he is the Sam, fine, but I am really liking this Cunningham kid. I know many want Robinson to return. I would over the moon for Kennard-Goodson-Cunningham.

I won't lose any sleep if the Giants don't re-sign Robinson. His injury history is a major red flag for me when it comes to giving him any kind of multi-year deal. Add to that the fact that there are a whole bunch of OLBs in the upcoming draft that I think would look great in blue. Cunningham, Haason Reddick, Tyus Bowser, Ryan Anderson, Alex Anzalone...take your pick.

As for our SAM, besides Kennard, the Giants took a flyer on Ishaq Williams last year. He fits their size-speed profile and I figure they'll be content to continue his development both at LB and as a special-teamer.
Robinson is good in coverage
