PP played 95% percent of the snaps last season. Vernon played 94%. Giants need DE reinforcements:

James Kratch& #8207;@JamesKratch re Okwara, Wynn, Owa
It's a pass rush thing. They combined for 1.5 sacks last year. DBs had eight

If we add another pass rusher in this draft it will be a LB imo

...I don't consider a 3T DT a 'pass rusher' per se. But we need one to pair with Snacks.
Concerning the quarterback situation with Smith
Rory : 3/18/2017 11:52 am : link
this is a bad year to draft a QB anyways , I'm ok with Smith
I agree
NYBEN1963 : 3/18/2017 11:59 am : link
We need pure speed pass rusher.Kerry Wynn and Owa are ok players but more run defending ends. But I think we need a third DEthat can put consistent pressure on the QB when either JPP or O.V needs a breather
pure speed rusher
area junc : 3/18/2017 12:25 pm : link
That would "break the camel's back" for the D. We have 2 top notch 2-way DE's, now we need that Osi speed rusher to line up at RDE on 3rd and long, and at the end of games when we're protecting a lead.

Reddick is interesting - he plays like a mini Kalil Mack. I just doubt the Giants would ever take a 6'1" 230# linebacker - I saw Finding Giants too.
A lot of good DL will be available at 23
Vanzetti : 3/18/2017 12:37 pm : link
If Giants do indeed go BPA, they could very well draft a DL.

I tend to think it will be Njoku or Ramzyck but a DL would not surprise me. If Hankins walks, then I would say about a 90% chance it will be a DL.

You wouldn't consider Geno Atkins or Aaron Donald pass-rushers? Why not?
I can absolutely see them drafting a DE
LakeGeorgeGiant : 3/18/2017 12:58 pm : link
perhaps early.

They have a lot of money tied up in DE, yes, but a rookie will be cost controlled, and JPP and Vernon will be at the end of their contracts by the time the rookie needs to be paid.

I think a pass rushing threat, even if one-dimensional, to spell Vernon and JPP would be a wise way to keep the rush from tiring and to protect the investment they've made.

Vernon and JPP were on the field a little too much.
Yup. An edge-rusher (DE/LB) should absolutly be in play at #23.
drkenneth : 3/18/2017 12:59 pm : link
Would give us something special on D.
If they could find a pass rusher in the draft that would allow
jcn56 : 3/18/2017 1:05 pm : link
JPP and Vernon to take a breather and not have the pass rush fall off a cliff, this D could go from very good to scary good in a hurry.
Thing about pass rushers is
chuckydee9 : 3/18/2017 1:07 pm : link
that you can never have enough.. There isn't a team in the league that has enough pass rushers..
I put this in the Derek Barnett thread:

I can certainly see the Giants taking a chance on a kid like Chris Wormley, or Tanoh Kpassagnon, or Daehson Hall (to name three), but, again, I think it's more important in this draft to get another DT in the pipeline than it is to find another DE. Even if the Giants re-sign Hankins (which seems doubtful this point), Bromley and Thomas (regardless of what you think of them) are both free agents next year.

Personally, I'd rather see the Giants draft an OLB with some pass-rush ability instead of a DE early on because we're much, much thinner at OLB than we are at DE. I also noted in the Barnett thread that Okwara is only 22 years-old and still has a lot to learn, but there's no denying he's made great strides since signing as a UDFA last year. I have high hopes for this kid.
if JPP and Vernon play all the DE snaps
Jesse B : 3/18/2017 1:20 pm : link
How are other guys supposed to accrue sacks?

Not saying they can't use another pass rusher or more talent at defensive end, just saying I have no idea if any of those guys can play until I see them more
I would be surprised if they didn't draft a DE
Jay on the Island : 3/18/2017 1:26 pm : link
in the first three rounds. Personally I hope they take Tonah Kpassagnon in round 3 if he is there. He is 6'7 285lbs and he has 35 1/2 inch arms. He is raw and he needs to be coached up but he could become a very good all around player.
Count me in this group of belief
gidiefor : Mod : 3/18/2017 1:30 pm : link
in a draft weak in Offensive lineman and strong in ERs and DBs -- You take DE, CB or LB in Round 1, in that order of preference BPA if there's a good one available -- and it does seem like there will be some excellent options at DE there where the Giants are slotted.

This is unless a Blue Chipper falls -- then you take them whether Defensive or Offensive -- but that's highly unlikely at 23
I'm not sure I follow
LakeGeorgeGiant : 3/18/2017 1:48 pm : link
the DT or DE argument. Why does taking a DE prevent them from taking a DT?

In fact, I'd be surprised if they don't come out of the draft with one of each.

It's not an "either/or," it's a question of which position should be prioritized. For me, in this draft, it should be DT.
If Charles

Vernon and several others on defense played far too many snaps last season to be sustainable or healthy, so there's definitely room for some roleplayers on this defense. Okwara flashed a little bit, and that's a good start, but we can't have defensive lineman playing 95% of the snaps again. You run the risk of guys breaking down.
