Raanan ESPN NY: Mailbag: O.J. Howard, Christian McCaffrey likely atop of Giants' draft board

Q - How do these six players stand on Giants draft board

1. Christian McCaffrey

2. Zach Cunningham

3. Cam Robinson

4. O.J. Howard

5. Taco Charlton (seen him mocked top 10 recently)

6. Jarrad Davis

Raanan's opinion:

"1. O.J. Howard

2. Christian McCaffrey

3. Cam Robinson

4. Jarrad Davis (If he checks out medically)

5. Zach Cunningham

6. Taco Charlton"

It wasn't Raanan's top six, just a ranking of selected players...

Sorry if any comments went with it
Giants' #1 picks always low risk. Why would this change?

Giants have shown inclination to downgrade players out of round 1 if they have recent medical issues or off field issues.

When they get ready to pick, look for the "cleanest" pick, regardless of whether they trade up or stay put. They might take a bigger risk on a trade down because they probably will have gotten an extra pick somewhere.
The issue with

Davis is that I imagine he will check out medically as of this moment because he's never had a major injury, it's his history of being dinged up constantly that is worrisome.
I believe I said...

something like "a lot of people are undervaluing the impact of an athletic pass catching tight end one the running game and wr-passing game just based on how that threat influences the linebackers and safeties."

So yeah
Zach Cunningham

Talk.. has me perplexed. I really hope this is smoke. Don't see him as an impact player.
The list is shaping

up similar to Colin's chat and I think what Sy will say...Giants very high on Howard/McCaffrey/Davis/Cunningham

Not disagreeing with you but
I don't understand the issues people have mentioned regarding his tackling. I haven't seen a lot of Vanderbuilt games, does he have a statisticly high numer of missed tacles? Or is there a technique issue identified by scouts? Wasn't he SEC DPOY? He must be tackling someone. From what I have read he seems to be in the mix for us at 23. If we add an impact LB and another edge rusher our D would be top notch.

having a rangy linebacker who can play sideline to sideline and cover TE's is NOT a bad thing to have..

I'm with you. You can nitpick any player if you try hard enough. But tape and production can't be ignored. Cunningham is around the ball nearly every play.
I think the Giants have they're eyes on MaCaffrey
NikkiMac : 4/10/2017 8:42 am : link
Which would be fantastic but I have a feeling Charlton is going to be real good for whoever gets him !
Maybe the Giants are going to use Hankins
NikkiMac : 4/10/2017 8:47 am : link
In a trade to move up hence the delay ? Idk just throwing things out there.

Why would a team give up a damn pick for Hank? Wouldnt they just... Sign him?

He is not getting to the ball carrier and lighting them up ala Foster but he is bringing them down holding him up and then taking him down. At least thats what i saw sometimes.

Who said anything about a team giving up a draft pick I'm talking about the GIANTS wanting to move up or trade spots so they use Hankins and a low draft pick depending on how many spots they're moving up

Hankins is a free agent. The Giants couldn't use him in a trade unless they signed him first.
