Is draft day just another day for you or do you

superspynyg : 4/11/2017 12:07 pm
consider it a special day?

I love the draft. I have been off the last few years and usually take the next day off due to how late I am up. I treat it like a holiday and host a draft party for a few friends who also love the draft.

We have wings, pizza, beer, and its a lot of fun. I watch most of the coverage leading up to the draft start that day.
Long, drawn out
Gman11 : 4/11/2017 12:15 pm : link
boring. I read about the Giants picks on my phone app. I don't really care who the other teams pick.
For round 1
mrvax : 4/11/2017 12:19 pm : link
I usually figure out what time the Giants will pick and tune in 30 minutes before. After the pick, I try and dig up as many scouting reports and player highlights as I can find.

I'll probably tune in at 10:30pm EDT.

i care more about the draft
UConn4523 : 4/11/2017 12:20 pm : link
than I do about most non-Giants games. Its incredibly interesting to me and with my love for the actual games waning over the years, I've never been more tuned into the draft process. The offseason is as fun to follow as the regular season, IMO.
Special day

Watch all picks leading up to Giants
Where else are we going to see stuff like this?
robbieballs2003 : 4/11/2017 12:28 pm : link
not since they moved it to 3-days
Rocky369 : 4/11/2017 12:29 pm : link
pretty pointless in trying to make it a day now.

so do I, but not necessarily on TV anymore, more likely on my phone from wherever I am ...
Love it OP...
Moose and Fury : 4/11/2017 12:33 pm : link
If I had to choose between missing the draft (all 3 rounds) and missing one Giants game during the season, I'd miss the game. The lead up to it is great and the feeling when "THE PICK IS IN" comes up for the Giants is like no other.

Fury and I have a couple buddies coming in from out of town and are taking Friday off. Draft party at the house Thursday night with a lot of pizza and a lot of beer. An hopefully a stud Giants' first rounder.

We also do a "mock draft challenge"...$20 a man to predict the first round. Different points assigned for each pick based on tiers. Really fun and keeps things interesting.
This is the first year
aimrocky : 4/11/2017 12:34 pm : link
I have to be in the city for meetings all day, which means I'm up at 5 prepping for my train and likely walking into the house as the draft is starting. The meetings are political and don't offer a ton of value, so I'm really ticked about it...
I watch it.
Glover : 4/11/2017 12:37 pm : link
It's on the level of the NCAA basketball finals, or the World Series. Sometimes I dont watch the World Series.
I enjoy the drama, meaning the seeing the actual picks in real time. Its more fun than just looking at them the next day. If I was working it would be fine to just get the notifications over the phone. I have responded to the NFL's pushing the draft as a must-see, prime time event. Boy am I an idiot.
In the old weekend format I made an entire 'thing' out of Day 1
Torrag : 4/11/2017 12:39 pm : link
Now I watch and follow the Draft but it's not the same all inclusive experience.
our asshole commissioner ruined it
gtt350 : 4/11/2017 12:40 pm : link
Draft should always be in NY and back to the old format. watching Jet fans lose their minds was always fun, The enthusiasm is missing out of NY maybe Philly this year will have some juice
It's my own personal holiday!

My wife has known for years now that during NFL Draft weekend to not plan a damn thing for me to do because it ain't happenein and even though I've never asked her to she always leave me alone in the house. I absolutely LOVE the draft and look forward to it every year.

Just hate where it's going to be held this year.
I find it boring
mrvax : 4/11/2017 12:42 pm : link
after the 3rd round. I'll watch some day 1 & 2 but that's it.
By the way...
T-Bone : 4/11/2017 12:43 pm : link
I watch just about every pick from pick #1 until Mr. Irrelevant. I may step out and get some air during the day Saturday (rounds 4-7) but usually will watch every single pick made.
Big event, but I'd like rounds 1& 2 on Friday night
GeorgeAdams33 : 4/11/2017 12:44 pm : link
...rounds 3-7 on Saturday

It's been a big event for me since I was a kid.

Ha, I'm the same way. Her cousins have a 1st birthday party planned for their son on Saturday. We're not close with them, but she's handling the party and letting me have the house free of kids.

Track picks on phone
Unemployable : 4/11/2017 12:46 pm : link
Don't need to see that fraud Roger hug every pick that walks up there. They turned it into a joke with that red carpet bs. Someone needs to take a dump on that red carpet.
I watch the first night
jpennyva : 4/11/2017 12:52 pm : link
I find it interesting to see which teams take which picks, especially in comparison with some mock drafts of perceived needs. I don't usually watch subsequent rounds but check in on BBI for other Giants picks. Like mrvax, I like to learn more about the Giants picks once known.

I actually liked the movie Draft Day. I didn't care for the story lines not related specifically to football (the mother, the baby - ugh!) and have no clue if the behind the scenes stuff is even close to reality but since I don't know, I found the take interesting.
I used to be so into it
pjcas18 : 4/11/2017 12:53 pm : link
now it's so long and boring I'd rather have teeth pulled without Novocaine than watch the NFL draft.

maybe this is get-off-my-lawn-ish, but it used to be about the football, saturday/sunday day 1 was perfect day 2 more for hard core fans.

now it's stretched out to maximize advertising dollars and marketing opportunities.

I doubt I ever go back to watching the draft.

This.
Used to be a big fan, made sure I was able to stay in all day. Kept the draft on the TV and kept one eye on it all day. Can't stand it now so I check BBI periodically instead.

It's mostly 'just another day' with a little (to a lot) more cell phone OCD. Might stream ESPN or the NFL network around our selection.

Won't plan my day around it, but if I'm at home doing nothing I might keep it on the TV in the background.

and can make it through three or four picks but it is too drawn out to watch every minute. Seems like the telecasts spend 10 minutes of every hour reporting from the Cowboys facility.
I don't watch it as much as I used to but
robbieballs2003 : 4/11/2017 1:22 pm : link
I don't know if it is the way they switched up the days or just the shit they have on TV. The NFL Network has really deteriorated over the years and I find myself switching more to ESPN because it seems like they keep up better with the picks on day 3 better. Day 2 is hit or miss. They just fill in the dead time with stupid shit and miss the main part which is the actual players getting picked. I am fine with having intervews with HCs and GMs. But I absolutely hate when they are like, "Lets recap the last 10 picks," and only really talk about one or two of those players. What the fuck?
Biggest day of the year ! ...
Manny in CA : 4/11/2017 1:27 pm : link

Except when the Giants are playing in the Super Bowl.

Non-football fans don't (and never will) understand it. I remember several years ago, one of the guys here was scheduled to get married that day. He wrote in to BBI asking for advice.

He was afraid to ask his future bride to reschedule because he knew she would "blow her lid". The guys her told him, "If she's that kind of girl, she's not good enough for you, drop her, pronto !"

Christmas.....

nicky43 : 4/11/2017 2:22 pm : link
I do monitor the draft activities on a small monitor TV next to my 62 inch set. When any team in our division is up for a pick, I switch to the main TV listen to the pick, take a few notes, then go back to monitoring. I do this for the first three rounds.

Then I wait until it's over and read up on all our thoughts at BBI and some news outlets.

and it was a weekend I actually enjoyed it.. I would go to the draft when I could because it was fun. Now its a combination fashion show/clown show seeing who can wear the most ridiculous outfit ( last years winner Ezekiel Elliot )

Making it over three days is taxing... They ruined the event by trying to MAKE it an event..
I enjoy draft day, I don't however like the 4,986 mock drafts and

Scour the interwebs for rumors of potential trades up/down, which teams are "open for business", Dottino usually gives his best guess as to which direction he'd go with Joe and Evan, maybe I'll check out a little x videos to calm my nerves leading into the TV coverage, hopefully a Ranger playoff game is on concurrently to flip between picks...It's usually a great day...

I used to have a big party/bbq both Saturday and Sunday. Now with it spread over 4 days, work Friday, etc it just isn't possible. Of all the changes Goodell has made the one I hate most was messing with the draft. It used to be a 2 day oasis in the desert of the offseason, an excuse to grill and drink for 36 hours with friends. Now it's a social media inundated red carpet event. It's certainly said enough but I don't know if it's ever more appropriate than in regards to this topic: f*ck Roger Goodell

Doomster : 4/11/2017 9:57 pm : link
1st and 2nd round, it's just a crapshoot....

BBI tends to get excited about every player drafted after the second round, until they see them play....

It's almost imperative, that you hit on those first two picks....they should be starters.....the question is, at what level? Outside of OBj and Collins, even the 1st and 2nd rounds have not been that great...

Everyone says Reese has turned the corner...he needs about 2-3 good drafts in a row to make up for '11, '12, and '13....

Hopefully the pendulum is swinging the right way for Reese........we really need a strong draft this season....TE, RB, LB, CB, FS, OLmen are all needs...it would be great if we could fill one or more of those spots beyond the second round....
Love the draft always have always will
djm : 4/11/2017 10:41 pm : link
And love that it's moved to Thursday night. When you get older and married with kids it's next to impossible to spend an entire Saturday in front of the tv. It can be done but it isn't always easy. Thursday night it's always free and easy. No commitments on Thursday night. I also used to work Saturdays so I had to take off in the past. know many here hate that the draft was moved but I don't see how it could be that bad. Some of you act like they desecrated the draft or prevent you from watching it. You can still watch the friggin draft you just have to spread it out over three days. Not the end of the world. You will be ok.

Actually Jim Dolan ruined it. He decided he wanted a spring show w/the Rockettes (It never got off the ground) & forced the NFL to move it from NYC. Once he opened Pandora's Box for the NFL & they realized there were other options, NYC no longer had the singular lure that it had had! Something else Jim Dolan has fucked up!!!
