Pineda v Wainwright

Carpenter just bloodied his hand on a hard hit out by Hicks. Let's go Yanks.

Don't think that was hung or at least it wasn't that bad. More like Molina made a good excuse me swing on it and hola Yankee Stadium HR..

You're right. On replay it was lower than I thought.

Love Pineda's mentality after giving it up. It seemed out of mind by the next pitch.

Well that was a cluster

Touchdown and a conversion. Nice little win streak possibly in the mix.
These guys are playing
section125 : 4/16/2017 11:08 pm : link
within themselves. Romine protecting and going the other way; Torreyes drills a hanger; Judge with controlled aggression. Bird ripped that ball the other way yesterday and since then looks like the eye is back. Hicks may be rewarding Girardi's and Cashman's faith.
Are these umps Fuckin serious?
B in ALB : 4/16/2017 11:12 pm : link
This is ridiculous. Pisciotty was nowhere near the ball and would have never caught it. That's two clearly blown calls by these idiots.
WTF is with these umps?

2 sweeps in a row. Sweet.
Great job 7 in a row
Stu11 : 4/16/2017 11:31 pm : link
great to see the Bird Man raking too. Oh and Molina was an absolute embarrassment behind the plate this series. Starting Friday night when he couldn't be bothered to reach for the throw and jogged after it letting Ellsbury steal a run. How many passed balls did he have this weekend? I get it the Cards suck this year and he's used to contending, but he just signed a huge multi-year deal and thats the pathetic effort he gives all weekend? He literally mailed this series in. I'f I'm management I'd have a serious sit down with him after this debacle.
Well done.
section125 : 4/16/2017 11:34 pm : link
The boys are having fun. Overcoming bad calls; taking advantage of opportunities; playing decent defense. Success breeding confidence.
Couple guys playing over their head, a couple under performing and a few big players missing.

Fairness? What?

Would you be mentioning "fairness" if they got swept?

What a weird and negative stance during a seven game winning streak.

WHAT HAVE THOSE GUYS EVER WON!?!?!?!
Their last 2 times out Pineda and Severino
Matt M. : 4/17/2017 1:14 am : link
gave us exactly what we had been expecting for a couple of years. The talent has never been a question for either one. It has been the consistency.

For me, Severino was a huge question mark and disappointment. I thought he would have to work out his issues in the minors. Thus far, he has proven me wrong in a big way and I am thrilled because this is the guy I expected 2 years ago.

Props on the mea culpa. You may still turn out to be right; it's early. In your defense, baseball is the hardest sport to project young players.

Yes, because with such long seasons, after a few, young players aren't so young any longer. Severino is at a critical juncture in his career this season. The last two starts were very powerful for him.
long season
Simms : 4/17/2017 8:42 am : link
Every team usually wins 50 games and loses 50 games. Its those games in the middle.... Glad to see our young players do well.
This team is playing so well, it's fun to watch.
Heisenberg : 4/17/2017 9:24 am : link
Hard to expect the starters to remain this consistent or some of the contributions we are getting to continue, but it is a lot of fun. And all without Sanchez and Didi, too.

The two Aarons look so confident and comfortable at the plate too. Such a difference from last year where they both seemed to be fighting themselves up there.
I continued to be amazed by Headley
mfsd : 4/17/2017 9:27 am : link
Fully admit I've long been on the Headley sucks bandwagon...happy to eat crow. Looks extremely confident at the plate, not chasing bad pitches or trying to over-hit, and he's been an OBP machine

I know we like to debate Girardis lineups, and he's looking pretty smart right now - but I really think he could be hitting Headley 2nd for now
Well, it's a small sample so we'll see what he does going forward
Greg from LI : 4/17/2017 9:56 am : link
But I have been shocked by Headley. I thought he was finished as a productive player.
yea
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 4/17/2017 10:14 am : link
I can't believe Headley is playing like this. He's been trash as a Yankee for the most part, but here he is having a hell of a hot streak to start the year. If he can just be "above-average" for us this year, I'll take it.
This team is hot right now.
Dave in Hoboken : 4/17/2017 10:49 am : link
Can't wait until Sanchez and Didi get back. Could be even better.

Me too and I was actually in favor of the trade for him and re-signing him way back when. He should be batting 2nd, though.

Just as important with Headley is, thus far, his defense has been very good also.
Headley was an average or slightly below offensive 3B
Dunedin81 : 4/17/2017 12:41 pm : link
With an MVP-conversation season a few years ago. I didn't think he would be this good and I doubt he will do this all year, but the hatred for him was borderline irrational. Nowhere near Ellsbury's class of albatross deal. Second half 2016 Headley was playing at or around his contract, value-wise.
Thats sugar coating it
