kash94 : 10:40 am
Streak comes to an end at 8 yesterday. However, Severino put up a sensational start - recording 10 SO over 8 innings while allowing only 3 hits and 3 ER. So far, so good with the decision to keep him in the rotation.

Few other notes:
1- Severino became the youngest Yankee pitcher ever to record 10+ SO and 0 BB in a start. He also became the youngest Yankee to record 9+ SO in back-to-back starts since Al Leiter in 1989.
2- Didi starting rehab games on Friday.
3- Gleyber Torres has bicep tendinitis. He'll have an MRI soon.
4- Clint Frazier had a homerun yesterday. Starting to get hot
5- Despite the loss yesterday and the early season struggles, the Yankees have the best run differential in the AL by 6 runs. They are tied with the Dodgers for the second best run differential in the MLB.

0-4 with 3 strikeouts. Now at .211. 10Ks and 8 hits. Good news is his bat speed when he misses continues to be incredible.

Good news is Chance Adams pitching yet another gem.

Stat of the day - Hoy Jun Park has 8 errors in 11 games. Hitting .390 with 2 HRs won't matter with that fielding.

I'm convinced, Frazier stole your wife, right? It's the only explanation for your constant hatred of him. I'm sorry bro, it'll get better. Look at the bright side, she's his problem now.

Lol seriously lighten up

Ignore him, to much good juju to talk about with the Yanks to quibble about one prospect off to a slow start

Might be time to sit Gardy and Ells 50/50 and start Hicks full time

but maybe we should play Aaron Hicks some more? Can someone explain to me why he didn't start the last two games? Is it really so unthinkable to sit Ellsbury or Gardner until Hicks cools down?
I really see Judge very possibly as a Mark Reynolds

Is that good? That's good, right? Not good enough to bump the immortals we have starting in LF or CF though.

I love what he is doing and totally am rooting for him, I mean who can't be turned on by the type of moon shots he's capable of. However I have to see him swing like this for more than 2 and a half weeks before we say he's going to be much more than a mid .200's type guy. I can see his swing getting messed up for peiods of time and the K's piling up. Hey I'm no scout, maybe I'm wrong and he can be a .270 type guy. Definitely hope so.

Judge would be in the running for MVPs if he hit .270 considering how many of those hits comprising the .270 would go for extra bases/HRs
Something about Judge reminds me of Jeter
DennyInDenville : 10:21 pm : link
Just something in his DNA seems Jeterian like.
His personality
Phil in LA : 10:29 pm : link
Is pretty Jeterian. Also he takes his walks and isn't a pull freak. He'll go to right. Both of those things will help build his ba.

Some of you wanted to murder hicks last year
djm : 10:38 pm : link
Or even before this season started it was clueless Joe for even entertaining the notion that hicks should play once in a while. Now you want to bench anyone for hicks to play every day. Why bench Ellsbury? He's hitting over 300.

It's a good problem to have. Relax and enjoy it. Every thread someone bitches about a guy sitting or playing. It's a long season. Guys get hot and cool off you can't react every day like this lol wait sure you can.

Headly has been amazing

JUDGE HIT THAT ONE TO JERSEY

Since he hit it to the northeast and Jersey is to the southwest, that's even a more incredible feat than it might seem! :-)

Long Island Sound...forget the new stadium is pointed that way

lol - I was fine with your original concept - everyone's calling it a "moonshot" - no reason it couldn't land in Jersey after one Earth orbit ...
Took my dad to the stadium for his 60th birthday tonight

and got Legends Seats. We got legends seats on stubhub a couple years ago for a game and he regularly talked about how great it was so I surprised him today. Got in there at 530, stuffed our faces with as much seafood and steak as possible, then watched a great game for the Yanks.

If you ever get a chance, the food is incredible. They have everything you can think of.

Stanton is the best ceiling comp for Judge, I think.
Castro's shot wasn't too shabby either. The thing I'm impressed by
Victor in CT : 4/20/2017 9:30 am : link
with Judge is that he isn't homer happy and his plate discipline seems to be improving. He had a nice single last night too, a BB and no Ks. If Judge hits .270 they are set in RF for years to come.
Yanks
PaulBlakeTSU : 4/20/2017 9:46 am : link
have the best run differential in baseball at +28. Next best are Dodgers +22, Reds +19, and DBacks +15.

The Yankees are on fire right now.

Remember this feeling for the eventual skid and slumps that are bound to come with any team, especially one with a lot of young players.

it's awesome to watch, but unsustainable for the guys who are putting up some monster numbers right now.

true Paul, but they get Didi and Sanchez back in 2-3 weeks. Main thing I need to see is if the starting pitching is for real. If it is, they can have a surprisingly good season.
I do think the Yanks have benefitted from a nice run
mfsd : 4/20/2017 10:20 am : link
of games against mediocre teams...some good early tests coming up against the Red Sox, Orioles and Cubs in the next couple weeks. But that doesn't discount what they're doing, 9 out of 10 is great for a young teams confidence

well, yeah, clearly they have guys playing over their heads
Greg from LI : 4/20/2017 10:23 am : link
Chase Headley is eventually going to stop hitting .396/.500/.646.

The most promising thing is how Severino and Montgomery are pitching. That seems more sustainable.
I can't wait until Didi and Gary come back.

the funny thing about being eager for Sanchez to come back is
Greg from LI : 4/20/2017 10:44 am : link
that I'm not sure how much of boost they'll get since Romine is posting .321/.394/.500 at the moment. Now, of course he wouldn't hit anywhere near that long-term, so I want El Gary to return toot-sweet. It's just kind of amusing to think that they'd be getting maintenance from him rather than a major improvement.

wouldn't it be wonderfully hilarious if Headley kept up those numbers throughout the season? The Yankees haven't had a hitter lead the league in batting average in a really long time. Bernie?

bigbluehoya : 4/20/2017 10:46 am : link
Starting pitching over the next week, hopefully they continue to grind out at-bats up and down the lineup and get pitch counts up.

Just about to a man, the approach at the plate has been outstanding.

Hit .349 (I think) in 1998.

Yanks' bullpen has a 1.41 ERA over 38.2 IP. That's pretty good, no? :)
OK mavens - facing a RHP with no DH tomorrow night -
Del Shofner : 4/20/2017 10:54 am : link
can we guess the lineup? Here's my guess:

Gardner LF
Headley 3B
Castro 2B
Ellsbury CF
Judge RF
Bird 1B
Romine C
Torreyes SS
CC P

While he (surprisingly) never led the league, Jeter did finish top 10 in BA 10 times, including two 2nd place finishes and two 3rd place finishes.
sorry, Bernie led the league with .339, not .349
Greg from LI : 4/20/2017 11:03 am : link
Jeter had some tough luck with leaderboards. The two times he was #2 in BA, 1999 and 2006, he had averages that would have led the league in many years. 1999 finished behind Garciaparra (.349 to .357), 2006 behind Mauer (.343 to .347).

It's good though because there is no pressure on Sanchez to "save" the offense when he gets back.

I was thinking the same think. Also Torreyes leads the team in RBI's( or he did up to a couple of days ago)
Still want Didi and Gary back.
