NFT: Game 5: Rangers at Habs gamethread

redbeard : 4/20/2017 12:49 pm
Here we go boys. Team looked like fire last game so let's keep the mojo going.

Haven't heard of any lineup changes yet. I'm just gonna go ahead and bitch about the refs preemptively to piss of our resident Habs fan.

Also, fuck Steve Ott in his fucking ear. Let's fucking go, boys

wonder why that is. They dont even get drafted much it seems.
Kings/Hawks dominance
Deej : 4/21/2017 2:06 pm : link
really of late was just the Hawks. Kings havent won a playoff series in the last 3 playoffs, mostly because they missed 2 of 3 playoffs.
At age 21 I'm of the opinion that Shestyorkin is our future in goal
Torrag : 4/21/2017 2:13 pm : link
At every level coming up he wins titles. Just captured the KHL crown. He will be in his prime when Hank is heading to pasture.

Of late, yeah.. but LA won two Cups in 5 years. Outside of CHI, they were pretty clearly the 2nd most successful WC team in that timespan.

It's really just semantics anyway. Just nice to see some new blood emerging.

My guess is because how offensively-minded the Russian system is and how supremely talented Russians forwards are that the Russian defensemen don't look nearly as good.

That's my guess anyway. Of course there are exceptions. That Zaitsev kid in Toronto looks pretty damn good.

Sure there are others.
Deej : 4/21/2017 3:03 pm : link
Gonchar, Markov, Zhitnik, Fetisov, Malakov and others. We had Toots and Kasper.

Actually there have been a lot of GOOD Russian dmen. It just seems they dont get drafted high, and there arent a lot of so-so Russian dmen. I guess the so-so ones just stay in Russia mostly.
There are 5 active Russian Dmen
Deej : 4/21/2017 3:11 pm : link
who have played 2 seasons in the NHL (164 games). There are 18 Swedes who meet that criteria. 6 Czechs.

Frankly, Im surprised there are only 13 active Russian forwards with 162+ games.
The KHL has been a more attractive (read: better paying) league

than the old Russian League was 15-20 years ago when there were more Russians in the NHL.

Meh, this isn't about the Hawks.
Preds played really well.
It reminds me of the Ducks sweeping the Wings in 03.

True, though we're 2+ years into sanctions, and the ruble was already down before that due to low oil prices.
Ovechkin helped off ice, possible knee injury

All Kadri got was 2 minutes for that...

Ovi wasn't putting any weight on that leg at all. That looked bad.
Make the Leafs pay by winning the game.

Ovechkin has missed something like 27 games
MetsAreBack : 4/21/2017 8:36 pm : link
In over a decade between regular season and playoffs. And like two or three of them I recall being either a team suspension (missed morning skate) or voluntary maintenance right after the all star break (league used to mandate a one game timeout if you skipped the all star game for any reason whatsoever)

It's just not human. He's the closest thing to 'Drago' I've ever seen.
If the Rangers / lundqvist weren't so starved for a title
MetsAreBack : 4/21/2017 8:38 pm : link

I'd actually pull for ovechkin to get one. He's so fuckin good.

But fuck him he can get one after we get ours for Hank. Thanks in advance.

refs favored Washington big time in the last 10'minutes of that period. Hopefully leafs are owed in OT

4th ot game in 5 games between these two. Our series has been pretty good. Edmonton/sj except for game 4 has been good. This series has been the must watch show of the first round.
Go Leafs Go!!

As for Pierre -- the Jon gruden of the NHL - what I really want to know is where he went to high school what junior league he grew up in and what his parents names are. Give it all to me Pierre. What type of house did he grow up in?
I don't have to listen to Pierre since the game is on CSN
Greg from LI : 4/21/2017 10:02 pm : link
On the downside, though, I have to listen to.....Craig Laughlin. So damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I have a feeling this series will have to come back to the Verizon Center before it's decided.
OTT/BOS also headed for OT.

That Kadri hit on Ovi was cheap as fuck
Davisian : 4/21/2017 10:50 pm : link
It's not a hip check when you're skating at the dude, that's a submarine and it's bullshit.

Don't get me wrong, Ovi can eat a dick with his feet leaving headhunting hits, but that's still bullshit on Kadri...

thats a bad call

MookGiants : 4/21/2017 11:01 pm : link
into him, barely made contact to begin with, Anderson went back like he got rocked in the chest/head and he didn't at all. They didn't have the balls to call that a goal, but they should have
.
arcarsenal : 4/21/2017 11:05 pm : link
If this game was in Boston, I think they would have green-lighted the goal.

I want Boston to win because I want Ottawa to have to at least play another game but I also want this game to last as long as possible.

Bruins finally win after 30+ minutes of OT.
arcarsenal : 4/21/2017 11:49 pm : link
Ideal.. exhausting game for both teams and now they have to play at least one more. If we advance, I want these teams to drain the life out of each other before we get to whoever wins the series
If we're fortunate enough to advance
Kyle in NY : 4/21/2017 11:59 pm : link
I can't decide which team I'd rather play. On reputation, you might say Ottawa is preferable. But Boston is really banged up right now and really only has one scary line, though it is one of the best. Karlsson is the best defenseman in the league for Ottawa, for my money, and has really dominated this series until cramps got to him tonight. Would not be fun playing against him. Goalies about equal.

I don't know. Just beat each other up for 7 games and that's fine.
I'm with you..
arcarsenal : 4/22/2017 12:14 am : link
There's really no team I'd prefer to play between the two. Karlsson is certainly the best player between the two teams and can swing games on his own - but I do feel like we are equipped to handle a player like him.

Boston isn't that scary but they'd have a lot of confidence if they made it through this series.

Pros and cons to both - no such thing as an "easy" draw at this point.

First thing we need to do is take care of business tomorrow and make this conversation relevant. I really do not want to see another game played @ Centre Bell.
