Cincinnati & Carolina are in heavy talks with San Francisco, but Carolina's offer of three picks (first, second, third) is currently the best offer San Francisco has for the #2 pick. Word is that Cleveland has asked for time to make a presentation to the 49ers, but if the Carolina deal goes through, it is with the Panthers' intention of taking Fournette. While San Fran has been linked to Solomon Thomas at #2 & he might perchance slide to #8, I am hearing that if still there, Lynch will pounce on McCaffrey. There's a sideline view there, as Payton & the Saints want McCaffrey and with 3 choices in the first two rounds, they could put another package that the 49ers neophyte GM might take. Some in the organization feel that Lynch could trade down even further (after Carolina/NO mess weeds out), as the Pokes are trying to angle up & see if Conley or Melinfowu fall into their laps.
Just the chatter from talking to a San Fran exec this AM
Thanks for all these posts Dave Te. Between you and Sy we're loaded with quality stuff here on BBI.
Hennie Youngman/football version - take my draft picks, please
So many teams are looking to trade down, rather than up, but those wanting to leapfrog generally pay a higher price than norm
I actually like the Day 2 running corps better than Day 1
Don't believe I've seen your take on D'Onta Foreman?
Back around the senior bowl he was a good prospect probably a rd 4 guy a la Andrew Williams. But given his recent rise to as high as the second rd, in some cases, who would you compare his style and pro potential to; from the ocean of prospects you've seen over the years?
Also, if Dallas cuts Alex Morris, I'm getting a feeling there could be interest in him in Rutherford-at the right price

As always great insight, safe travels. Surprising they didn't ask for Perrine's report.
Very much agreed. Garrett is getting a lot of pub and understandingly so, but Thomas is going to be a spectacular player, and it would not be out of the question that he is ultimately looked at as a better NFL player than Garrett. Thomas has the ability to be a defensive coordinator's nightmare. You cannot pass on him.

I'm running out the door to catch my flight, so I can't pull up his scouting report, but Foreman is not going in the first two rounds from what the boards look like in the team rooms I've been to. The big thing is, as many good plays as he makes, those fumble issues always seem to rear their ugly heads. Based on reports they asked for, I think the Giants are looking more at Day 3 guys like Hill, Gallman, the Williams Boys (Jamaal-BYU/Joe-Utah), Conner.

They might figure that Perine will likely be gone by the time they're ready to take a RB. Perine is also a guy who crashes into and runs over defenders. Somebody like that might have a short career, even for an NFL RB.
So, in a draft where there might be just a handful of studs, why not trade three one dollar bills for a five-spot, if the other team prefers lots of paper to quality. San Fran has more holes than my 30-year old BVDs and the Panthers realize that Cam can not do everything. If they do end up with Fournette, who wants to bet that Stewart is booted.
Rivera is convinced that he needs a big upgrade at RB. On top of it, as wealthy the QB spot is for the 2018 draft, look at the mediocre crop of RBs that are going to be playing college ball next year.
If the juniors expected to come out actually do, here is the current rankings of the 2018 RB class;
Royce Freeman Oregon
Saquon Barkley Penn State
Derrius Guice Louisiana State
Nick Chubb Georgia
Ralph Webb Vanderbilt
Bo Scarbrough Alabama
Ronald Jones II Southern California
Justin Jackson Northwestern
Rawleigh Williams III Arkansas
Akrum Wadley Iowa
Yeah, not a pretty picture, and when Fournette's backup is the third-rated TB left on campus, maybe it is wise to trade in a few cow chips to get the lead bull.
